    Thank you, Mark! It is great to see other shooters come to the same conclusion as we did after testing. You are 100% correct that it adds to the band's lifespan without affecting accuracy. This is why our bands are all tied TTF. Keep up the great work!

      Hi there i also had a question since watching this episode. Are the bands breaking at the knots also because obviously the poutch flaps around after wards that maybe the bandsets too powerfull for the ammo. Wasted energy to me spells excess bandslap.

      @@ATOMarkhi there i just asked nathan at simpleshot above. Too powerfull bands fir the amo equals excess energy to resolve. Or poutch breakage

    Great video Mark. When I first started using Crystal string, all my knots were coming undone. Err on the side of tightness! I am primarily a TTF shooter and am just starting to tie my bands, so I was happy to hear you say that TTF bands work great on OTT too. And yes, longevity is where's it at!

  • @cubotpowerphip834

    Wet the knot at pouch after tying for the first pull so knot moves into place without damaging bands. Leave to dry. Don't cut band tabs too short at the pouch.
    Happy shooting

    Mark, great "deep dive" into band tear. TIP 1) moisten the knot (spit) before pulling tight. Much like tying fishing knots.
    TIP 2) Use amber belt to get a "tighter" knot. Crystal String will cut into the rubber if over tightened, it also breaks more easily. Personally, I only use CS for light set ups, like BB shooters

    • @ATOMark
      @ATOMark  Год назад +1

      You see I switched from amber belt because it was cutting my bands. I do moisten the knots. I am thinking about switching to constrictor knots and giving that at try with all cotton string.

      I've been using a .8mil 'crystal sting or stretch nylon from wally world in the craft dept. it's cheap and all I've needed is a constrictor knot with one overhand,never breaks or cuts. Regular crystal string is .1mil I believe. I tie my bands ott for long draw &attach to frame V side down. TTf may have some longevity advantages,although I haven't noticed any early failures way I tie mine.

    Cool video. I've always done the tri-fold for all band sets, even for OTT. I figured that when you stretch bands to full draw, of course they'll align but what sold me was viewing the pouch when holding the frame horizontal and just letting bands hang down freely. The pouch was still horizontal and the tri-fold just seems like a stronger option. Perhaps with heavier bands or doubled bands, that tiny bit of extra pouch twist may have some negative effect.

  • @mattriley798

    I did by accident for a good few month before I really started to "learn" and gain knowledge. Can't remember if I experienced issues but I was still getting my head around everything. I know now, and I make my own bands. It's still handy to know though, for the odd time I'm out and my options are limited. Cheers big fella 👍

    Video idea for ya: Because you've identified the pouch tie as a weak point perhaps you could try Crystal string vs Amber belt. My theory is the texture and flatter profile of amber belt will result in fewer micro tears near the pouch, even if the knot slips.

    • @ATOMark
      @ATOMark  2 месяца назад

      Ya I thought the same. I originally used amber belt and switched to Cristal string because of the same woes. I am now useing 1mm cotton butchers twine and having massive success.

    Awesome shooting Mark! Never had an issue of mangled pouch ends of my bands with SimpleShot black. I switched to the South Wales Catty bands for a smoother draw but they would slip at the pouch no matter how hard I cranked on them with Amberbelt or Crystal String or a constrictor knot. The solution was; 1.) I tied the pouch like Wayne Martin's. 3 loose wraps, then 6 really tight ones in the middle, capped off with a square knot and 2.) I noticed the SniperSling microfiber Shark and pit pouches I was using would make tiny cuts on my bands due to the tiny holes, and the latex constantly rubbed against it every shot . I switched to the small SimpleShot pouches with bigger pouch tying holes, so now my maxxed SWC reds last really long without slipping issues and I get longer band life. Hope this helps brother!

    • @ATOMark
      @ATOMark  11 месяцев назад +1

      I used to use the belt and I did the same thing. Did some loose wraps then tied it tight. I used to even pull on the edges to roll up the edges of the belt to stop it from cutting into the bands. Worked like a charm then problems. So I switched to the string and it worked like a charm for a while but it seems these smooth bands like jinpu, gzk clear green and these snipersling green give me the same problem. With yellow no problem.

    Fine line between stretching enough or too much when tying pouches. I shoot TTF bands on OTT frames often, works great.

    • @ATOMark
      @ATOMark  11 месяцев назад +1

      I know! I was stretching them too much when I first started out I dialed it back a little and solved the problem. Now it seems like they are making elastic more smooth and I am having trouble finding the sweet spot. Elastic like bsb seem to have a little texture to them and seem to hold better. This snipersling, gzk transparent green and junpu seem to give me the same issues.

    • @ATOMark
      @ATOMark  7 месяцев назад

      Hi my friend. I haven't really done any speed testing on the green bands yet. I was having problems with odd breaks then I got too busy and had to take a break from shooting. I would suggest using a constrictor knot for pouch attachment. I think it holds better. I have had better luck with constrictor knots.

  • @mrln247

    Informative testing.
    Pheasant head distance game is one of my favourites.
    I use roughly the Catty Shack method, but finish with wrap and and tuck as the knot scuffed my cheek, use a few more wraps than many, 6-7 tight ones. I think it's harder to avoid the slipping when you get closer to max on a band set as there's no give left and I personally prefer how flat the simple fold sits most of the time, but it's useful to know for wide bands in a smaller pouch hole.

    • @ATOMark
      @ATOMark  11 месяцев назад +1

      I love that pheasant head. The ones on the wire spring are fun too. Ya it these were close to maxed I wouldn't have a problem with 235 shots. But they are not even close to maxed. I got a full 6-8 inches of extra stretch.

      @mrln247 11 месяцев назад

      @@ATOMark I used tube cuffs for ages but they need to be fairly long to not slip so also tried a backup constrictor knot over the centre of the cuff.
      These days I use the amber belt but do the 3 soft looser wraps and then a bunch tight on the centre, more wraps=more clamping pressure I added until nothing slipped.

    • @ATOMark
      @ATOMark  11 месяцев назад +1

      I thought of doing a cuff with knot. Just seems like too much work. Just cuffs alone slip a little for me because I almost max out my bands. I am going to give the constrictor knot some good testing and see if I can find a better option than Cristal string.
