Imagine *if* the iguanas *could* reach twelve or fifteen feet, be tamed for riding. There have been Deviant Art pictures of a woman riding either a large iguana or bearded dragon, but for some reason those pictures have been removed, or deleted. Can’t recall who the artist is, but wish s/he would post post those pictures permanently.

Some big Asian water monitors at the back of my house! They lay eggs in the back hedge and we have seen 6 or so babies climbing the fence after hatching! Normally very shy and tend to swim away fast when you approach them! Greetings from Thailand!

Just to clarify, alot of the maximum weights here are of captive individuals of poor health and are massively overweight. Namely the black throat monitor and especially the Komodo, wild Komodos haven't been observed reaching 100kg and the biggest are probably closer to 80kg. Still absolutely massive, but the 166kg one was living in poor conditions in a zoo and was fed waaaaaay too much.

Was in Tonsai, in Thailand, a few years back, and would sit on a little quiet beach in the morning round sunup with a joint and watch the water monitors scavenge beached fish. One particular morning one of em bumrushed a gull or somesuch that had come down on the lizard's target flotsam du jour, and this conservatively six foot quadraped done put the RKO on this avian tosher, junior kaiju went an' earnt him a double portion.

Nile monitors also love young pythons so in Florida they should have a fairly neutral role in the battle of the beasts. They can get safely away from alligators but nowhere is safe from adult pythons although they can outrun them.
