A well balanced appraisal of Australian wildlife. As an Australian, I can confirm that your assessment that while Australia has some deadly animals, the odds of encountering one and, further, being attacked/bitten by one, are pretty low, so they pose no real threat. Another great research video. I spent 46 years in Australia and only encountered one incident of stepping on a catfish they call "Cobbler" in Geraldton, WA. The inland taipan is maligned, I have never seen one yet need in their territory. Saltwater crocodiles are not that dangerous if you take simple steps. Do not enter any water course. I have camped in Lakefield NP known for its crocs. Check with the rangers where to camp. You can be close to a river and still be safe.
The most dangerous animal is perhaps the smallest. The Irukandji Jellyfish, about the size of your finger nail. Stinger nets are used to protect against Box Jellyfish, but the Irukandji will just sail through the nets. They are present in all tropical waters. They are killers.

I was lucky enough to go to Australia when I was younger but i can't say i went for 46 years. I don't know why people have the image of it being the most dangerous place in the world, i was looking for snakes the whole time i was there and only found 1 venomous species and i really had to look. I think as long as you are careful and have some common sense then you will be fine as you said.

The worst thing about Irukandji is if the venom doesn't kill you from heart failure, the pain is so intense people commit suicide after being stung. At least one indigenous tribe tied up victims and buried them to their necks in the sand so they couldn't hurt themselves.

It is curious that certain regions of the world - certain habitats - have lots of "deadly" animals, while others have nearly any. The contrast is even sharper if you make that to "venomous and poisonous* animals. I'm sure there's an explanation for this in evolutionary biology, but i don't know what it is.
I have spent months on and off in the Chihuahua, Sonoran and Mojave deserts. As North America goes, these eco-regions are known for having the most "deadly animals.". Bark scorpion, black widow, mountain lion, various venomous snakes, and the occasional Jaguar near the border. I never encountered any of them outside a zoo. People forget that most desert animals hide from the sun during the day. And others simply hide in general.
I do know someone who had an encounter with a mountain lion. It must not have been hungry because it reacted with fear of humans.
As for jellyfish. I hate every single one of those stinging, brainless little m*therf*ckers!

Australia dangerous? Look at Europe Asia Africa and America, you go walkabout and get eaten by bears big cats wolves coyotes and anything else in thems here woods trying to ruin a perfectly good day. We only have a few snakes and spiders that are more scared of us than we are of them. Granted we have saltwater crocs, and a man was unfortunately eaten last week while fishing in north Queensland and non fatal attacks are quite common. But the only people who get attacked are people not using common sense near the water. Otherwise everyone else just knows where you can go and where you can't. The last snake fatality was a few years back, roos kill more people than snakes spiders Dingoes cassowarys and everything else mentioned combined. Except the salties, stay away from those fellas.

Cool video. I remember watching a video about crocodiles in Australia. I think one of the interesting things is the difference in managing dangerous wildlife (alot of which has to do with the wildlife itself and its danger level, size, type, etc.). In the US alligators aren't that dangerous and cohabitation with a bunch of rules (especially no feeding) is encouraged. For salt water crocodiles its basically separation is the only way to do things, but because of this you don't need all of the rules that go with cohabitation. Like they were moving or killing crocodiles near Darwin, but outside of Darwin they had companies that would feed wild crocodiles. That seemed so strange as an American, but from the Australian comments it made sense because they have to separate them anyway, so whether you feed them or not doesn't make a difference.

I love your videos! I’m obsessed with animals, I even got my degree in them, so I love educational animal channels that do it well & get their info correct as well as not being overly dramatic like a lot of channels. I enjoy playing your videos on my tv while I color in my critter books, do puzzles or do some of my art. I also like playing them when I’m trying to sleep, I have to have noise to fall asleep & I find the way you speak as well as the topics about animals to be very comforting & enjoyable. Plus, a lot of the most fascinating (& my favorite) creatures are obscure, so it’s awesome to see someone talk about so many different & unique animals instead of the same ones everyone else talks about. And I love that the focus of your channel seems to genuinely be conservation & love of the amazing creatures on our planet. Would love to see some longer videos in the future if you have the time. If you’re keeping them short b/c you think people won’t watch them if they’re too long I think you’d be surprised! Most of us just really love this stuff & your channel so we’ll watch whatever you post. Long ones would be awesome! Also, just an idea, it would be cool for you to talk about the evolution in depth of some of the unique critters you discuss. Tons of people have done evolution videos on the really well known animals but you could do so much better than them lol Anyways, much love & support from Ohio, USA 🇺🇸 ❤ Would love to see a video about all of the cool species that call the Appalachian region of the USA home btw!

Think it’s worth pointing out that Crocodiles are only found in the northern parts of Australia - they can be found as far as 600km from the coasts of north wa, the Northern Territory and Queensland if they have fresh water. A saltwater crocodile can go it’s whole life without seeing salt water. Famous places like Litchfield, Mataranka springs, Kakadu often have a lot of water holes, tourist attractions, etc. shut down in the wet season because Crocodiles are so active in their movements then.

Andrew Smallacombe our funnel web spider is a thousand times more dangeres than tarantulas.Correction Why are Australian tarantulas called Whistling spiders?
Australian tarantulas are often known as whistling or barking spiders because of the sounds most species can produce. The Australian tarantulas belong to four genera, Selenocosmia (four described species), Selenotholus and Selenotypus (with one species each), and Phlogiellus (undescribed species) in the family Theraphosidae.

    In Australia: 250
    In USA: 7000
    In India: 15000
Half of those 250 Aussie deaths were Horse falls or livestock tramplings. 9 were from tripping over dogs lol.

Lived all my life in Australia, lived in the bush most of it and there is no where that you can't go for a run or hike for fear of danger. There is only 1 thing that needs to be avoided and that is the crocodiles up north and if you are dumb enough to swim where they live then you have a death wish. You are not going to be attacked by a grizzly, pack of coyotes, mountain lion or any of the animals that live in Africa etc etc. There is a 10 million to 1 chance that you could get bitten by a snake but no one dies these day due to anti venom. I lived on a country rural property for 50 years and saw only 1 snake, shoved it into a bucket with a lid and took it for a drive and released it in case it bit my curious dog.

Things are changing for Australia as far as grazing animals. The Rusa, Sambar, Chital, Red Stag, Fallow and Hog deer that have been introduced are hitting critical mass where their ranges are going to begin to rapidly expand. Once Sambar deer get to Northern Australia they will actually arrive in their preferred habitat.

Thank you for putting Australia's dangerous wildlife in perspective. If you listen to warning and have commonsense Australia is very safe. We are taught as kids to tread carefully in the bush and our backyard we have snakes sometimes in our backyard) we are taught to swim at a young age and to be aware of rips. The danger in Australia is vastly over rated as long as you are not foolhardy - i mean if you go out in the bush without provisions you are much more like to die from heat exhaustion. It is easy to enjoy the outdoors of Australia without any consequence by just being mindful of your environment. We dont have predators like bears, big cats or wolves so again than you for putting the danger of some of our exceptionally lethal wildlife in perspective.
I have travelled the circumference of Australia and it is spectacular so come for a visit , you will be amazed!
