I was never a huge Prince fan but like the odd song, including this one. When first saw this video years ago, I suddenly realised how amazingly talented he was and what an underrated guitar master he was too.

Prince was the perfect example, of the difference between good,,,, and what I'd call BEYOND "good". He was masterful.... and the difference was emotion, soul. That can't be taught. He was a natural.

When P reprises his solo at around 3:20, goes into a pirouette, and effortlessly comes out of it playing that high note on his Yellow Cloud guitar like it was no big deal...I still get chills off that moment. Totally unexpected, and totally cool. Most folks have no clue just how difficult that is, which is why you don't see many seasoned guitarists doing stuff like that. Respect and RIP to the Purple One.

Prince is truly one of those artists (like Michael,Janet,Madonna,Mariah,etc.) that come around once in a lifetime that personify legendary. Even though legend truly is a disservice to someone like Prince because he transcended that word well beyond to the stratosphere. Nobody now has even 1/16th the talent that Prince possessed and it's a damn shame he's not here anymore to give his multitude of gifts to the world. I hope he's laughing in the Purple Rain wherever he is.

I love this performance of Purple Rain...I feel it's the best! And...he is ridiculously cute here...makes me want to go right through the screen...love the end...he was so shy, like I can't believe I did it and love how he blows on his guitar strings...I know those strings were hot, just like he was!

I have been to first ave for about 200 different bands over the years. This man literally put this this venue on the map. He's soo famous in the cities that people recognized his limousine over the years. What a fantastic artist, sad to see him gone. He always supported the scene in Minneapolis. Such a loss.

I agree, but I don't think that's giving Prince enough credit. He's one of the best musicians of all time. He could play at least 27 instruments. He was truly a very special individual and a musical genius.

How can you not get inspired by him. My dad had the honor of meeting him in Thailand, back when he was touring. He said, hands down the coolest cat he had ever met. This is probably my all time favourite performance to watch. This is what music should be, drive emotion within you.

It's now 2019 and still watching this. I get him out of my head for a little while, but make my way back to him. Some of the best times of my life were the 80's and listening to Prince. I'm just going to go ahead and say it...I'm now 54...happily married, but Prince does something to me I can't explain, and I don't mean that in a dirty way...he just touches parts of my deep, inner soul...especially when I watch him sing and play that guitar...I don't know how to explain it really, but will say that he is truly missed!!

Incredible song all around but I LOVE to see him break off a piece on guitar after singing only the first part. The song was already like 10 years old when they did this, and you can tell how he perfected the chops for the lead. Just incredible.
