Now i know why it says Dreamcast on the left! I never knew the Sammy Atomiswave was based on Dreamcast (And Naomi too). But yes, I think i like he 3D stages in this game much more better. I dont know why but I like seeing 2D sprites fight in a 3D environment! And if ANYONE planning on getting this game for homes, get the PS2 version cuz there are more characters, the Xbox version may have better graphics but overall doesnt have as many fighters as the PS2 version does. (Which is strange honestly)
X-Box version also has longer load times between rounds, and 2 less characters (May Lee and Angel) than the PS2 version has. It also doesn't really look better at all.
It’s the time Dreamcast died and PS2 continued, it was fan ported later for the Dreamcast which was supposed to be ported from the arcade to the Dreamcast by the developers themselves. But final verdict the ps2s 3D animation and menu with new characters are superior to the Dreamcast 2D version.
The DC version isn't a port. It's a 1:1 "conversion" of the arcade (dc and atomiswave have the same architecture) But I imagine that dc can handle 3d backgrounds (like kof 98 and 99 evo) if snk decides to give an official port
@@LCmedel Dreamcast will never get any official ports of the game as Sega no longer supports the DC, or any of their consoles. It would have to be up to the fans to port the PS2 version over themselves.
As true as that is, if the arcade gameplay frames and hit data are the same as the arcade, I’d choose the PS2 version. Night and Day version of stages, 3D backgrounds, other game modes (challenge, survival, single player, etc), console-exclusive characters (Seth, Kusanagi, Omega Rugal, Angel, & May Lee Jinju) and color edit makes the PS2 the better experience, in my humble opinion. snk.fandom.com/wiki/The_King_of_Fighters_Neowave Again, that’s with all in-game arcade gameplay data being the same as the original arcade version. That's because the game's arcade system, the Sammy Atomiswave, was actually based on the Dreamcast, so the fans have hacked the system to be playable on the actual Dreamcast.
Something is wrong: this game was launched years after Sega discontinue DC. NeoWave for DC looks like a hack: in order select you have but one A,B and C...but DC does not have the "C" button. Someone put real effort to make it work, but compare thinking on who is the best is kind of unfair
It's kind of true that this is a fanboy sausage fest around here, but there is indeed something a little bit off with the PS2 version. The superior parallax of the 3D environment is really quite nice, but the mismatch in textures and lighting between the characters and background makes the fighters come across more like paper cutouts moving around. The background's sense of depth would have been a clear win for the PS2 if they had spent a little more time integrating the characters into it, rather than simply copy pasting the 2D sprites. For instance, you see Mai and Yashiro fighting under bridge lamps in the PS2 version, but their brightness values don't change at all; like they aren't even really present.
I think the graphics look great on both to be honest! But I loved how the PS2 version went from Day to Night on that first stage while Dreamcast did not! Reminds Me of Waku Waku 7! (Sega Saturn) :) Now to get back to the video!
You are wrong. The arcade and this Dreamcast port did not have 3D backgrounds, nor did they have night and day version of stages. Geese Howard’s stage goes into a whole other lower level of his mansion on the second round for PS2.
That’s not parallax scrolling, the PS2 stages were entirely redone to be in 3D. That’s why they look better on a whole, especially considering that they did a good job of keeping the aesthetic intact.
The Atomiswave/Dreamcast version looks so ugly with those blurry/low res and static prerrendered backgrounds with 0 parallax, no floor line scrolling, no crowd, no nothing.... I didn't knew the PS2 port had remade background graphics, I only had the xbox one bitd, the port for the og xbox not for the xbox one.
The PS2 ports of almost ALL of those titles did this. Not to mention also decreasing the load times. They were far superior to the Atomiswave in virtually every major respect.
Hi! You could indicate that this is an Atomiswave port on Dreamcast to avoid the confusion of a pure original Dreamcast port. Thank you Sincerely James
What amazes me is that Neowave (and some of the 2k ones) had pretty good 3d stages but Rebout as terrible ones!!! Usually I prefer the 2d ones but Kof01, 02 had the worst in the series, the 2d is welcome, but the laziness made them create some weird ones on Kof94 Rebout and they never bothered making the old ones in hires.
Crazy thing about 2001 is that the art for the backgrounds are sick but it looks like fuzzy and badly pre rendered stuff. I have seen gifs of them on google that somehow looks like the pixels typically used in KoF games and they are someone of the best in the series then
@@Bloodreign1 Yeah but the hi-res sprites look off when u play with old backgrounds. They didn't even bother to remake them like the character sprites. It's lazy.
@@omegarugal9283 oh I know, they were very similar in the way they're built. Which is what let's the port even happen as the hardware is nearly identical.

No, it is not a port it is the real neowave game running on a Dreamcast
The DC version isn't a port. It's a 1:1 "conversion" of the arcade (dc and atomiswave have the same architecture)
But I imagine that dc can handle 3d backgrounds (like kof 98 and 99 evo) if snk decides to give an official port
@@LCmedel I believe Marvel Vs Capcom 2 on the DC uses this 3D background technique.
@@LCmedel Dreamcast will never get any official ports of the game as Sega no longer supports the DC, or any of their consoles. It would have to be up to the fans to port the PS2 version over themselves.
@@Bloodreign1 yeah, but i mean that neowave would have ported back if the dc haven´t died in 2001
DReamcast version is not a port it's a conversion it's 100% proper arcade perfect same hardware.. ps2 is a port not arcade perfect
As true as that is, if the arcade gameplay frames and hit data are the same as the arcade, I’d choose the PS2 version. Night and Day version of stages, 3D backgrounds, other game modes (challenge, survival, single player, etc), console-exclusive characters (Seth, Kusanagi, Omega Rugal, Angel, & May Lee Jinju) and color edit makes the PS2 the better experience, in my humble opinion.
snk.fandom.com/wiki/The_King_of_Fighters_Neowave
Again, that’s with all in-game arcade gameplay data being the same as the original arcade version. If not, I’ll take the Dreamcast/MAME version.
Yes ps2 is not a carcade perfect. Is arcade superior version !!!!!!!!!
@@cybermx8896 Yes it would be it's not the same engine.. Wanted arcade perfect not messed with it's dreamcast it's the arcade rom after all how the game was meant to be like.. Not arcade perfect on the ps2 if you like it think it's better thats cool.. I dont like ether of these kof games.. i rather neogeo cd kof98
@@IanMicheal ok now try to say it without crying ja ja ja ja ja
@@cybermx8896 dreamcast is arcade perfect like the game was supposed to be if you played it there... The ps2 version is adding content to sell it ,, if you think the dreamcast could not do the ps2 version your very much mistaken.. it's not the same engine dreamcast version is just the arcade rom
¿Qué Paso Con El Final?
Hopefully someone can get some license rights to make these legit releases.
I have the original Xbox version of KOF Neowave, but it's the digital release for XB1.
3d very very very wonderfull !!!!
It was not the Dreamcast version,it was Atomiswave arcade version,
So it means you haven't got any practice mode, cannot change the
level, time set,and the other options, so why should I have to choice this
semi-finished products for play?
The Atomiswave version was converted and ported to the Dreamcast very recently, like 2 weeks ago
@@mint_kyuu99 I've known that some amazing guy converted the Arcade roms into Dreamcast version, but still my questions above haven't got solved.
although it's fine to be able to play some games which were never ran on a console before.
@@alphaone6665 Well, there aren't other modes like practice mode, and you can change the options modifying the game files. It's quite tedious but it works
Wait a minute, did que have this KOF for the Dreamcast ? O_o
It's a homebrew port of the Atomiswave version of the game.
I don't recall a Dreamcast version. That looks like the Arcade version.
That's because the game's arcade system, the Sammy Atomiswave, was actually based on the Dreamcast, so the fans have hacked the system to be playable on the actual Dreamcast.
O último KOF lançado que realmente gosto.
E o XIII?
Something is wrong: this game was launched years after Sega discontinue DC. NeoWave for DC looks like a hack: in order select you have but one A,B and C...but DC does not have the "C" button. Someone put real effort to make it work, but compare thinking on who is the best is kind of unfair
Is arcade mod for dc
@@javiereduardo3617 that's nice, it may be applicable to other AtomWise games!
Verdade kkk nada a ver
Ps2 better because parallax and more animations, but Dream has nice sprites anyway.
3d and paralax effect makes everything better. Cant understand the complaints to the ps2 version
This channel is almost 99% of sega fanboys, thats's it.
@@ostiariusalpha Maybe those 3d background would look better with a crt or a scanline shader
@TrueSinisterSurely u don't known this channel. See more vids and comments section and u will understand.
I think the graphics look great on both to be honest! But I loved how the PS2 version went from Day to Night on that first stage while Dreamcast did not! Reminds Me of Waku Waku 7! (Sega Saturn) :) Now to get back to the video!
I could have sworn DreamCast was also in 3d in backgrounds? Am I wrong???
You are wrong. The arcade and this Dreamcast port did not have 3D backgrounds, nor did they have night and day version of stages. Geese Howard’s stage goes into a whole other lower level of his mansion on the second round for PS2.
You might be getting this atomiswave port mixed up with the dreamcast port of KOF 99 (KOF Evolution)
Wasn't this on og Xbox?
the ps2 port wins hands down. there's NO parallax scrolling with the stages on the dc (arcade port). but the ps2 has that and many more improvements
Thank you
Sincerely James
The person running this channel is a massive Sega fan, no way does she do that to avoid hurting Sega's reputation.
The 3D game looks more beautiful than it's 2D counterpart of course.
Finally a legit comment
What amazes me is that Neowave (and some of the 2k ones) had pretty good 3d stages but Rebout as terrible ones!!! Usually I prefer the 2d ones but Kof01, 02 had the worst in the series, the 2d is welcome, but the laziness made them create some weird ones on Kof94 Rebout and they never bothered making the old ones in hires.
Crazy thing about 2001 is that the art for the backgrounds are sick but it looks like fuzzy and badly pre rendered stuff. I have seen gifs of them on google that somehow looks like the pixels typically used in KoF games and they are someone of the best in the series then
You do know you can play Rebout with the new sprites over the old backgrounds right? And the sprites don't actually clash with the backgrounds.
@@Bloodreign1 Yeah but the hi-res sprites look off when u play with old backgrounds. They didn't even bother to remake them like the character sprites. It's lazy.
ps2 wins
I prefer the 3d ones
PlayStation 2 Win Can you imagine what the dreamcast with DVD would be like?
DC version looks awesome for the port
not DC, atomisvae, technicly the same thing but in ROM cartdridge form instead of GD ROM
@@omegarugal9283 oh I know, they were very similar in the way they're built. Which is what let's the port even happen as the hardware is nearly identical.
@@imnotayoutuber8494 i bet that Sammy bought the leftover naomi/DC parts from sega to build the atomiswave

Dreamcast.lool.a.little rugged but I suppose there's something about the old skool art
Its a shame the DC got shafted like this bc we all know it was a very capable system
I love 3d
Proximo faz com king of fighters 2002 UM 👍🏻🤝🏻
nose, las dos estan bien preciosas xd
Dreamcast 2D.
The 2d is the Best!!
I played dreamcast version was too good

KOF NeoWave was never released on DC. it was released on the Atomiswave then the PS2 received a port later
Recently some people has been working on Atomiswave to DC conversions. KOF XI, MS6, SamSho VI, and others are being converted for DC, i think they have 40% of Atomiswave library converted as of now
@@JorgeMetal579 Indeed. As of this comment they've converted about 16 out of about 25 (in about the space of a month)

this is more than lazy port, 3d backgrounds looks very good
a fanmade and perfect port of the arcade version that doesn't have 3D backgrounds....
No noto diferencia
The PS2 version looks better, but not by much! the problem is the game, since NeoWave is somewhat repetitive...
you wait Update.
"2d" deviam colocar aspas no título pois o 2d do dreamcast é falso
The best is the xbox version
All I know is, this game wasn't tainted by atrocious Falcoon art which is always a plus!
