It's funny that King of Fighters got a lot of spinoffs, but King of Fighters is a spin-off within itself the King of Fighters is a spin-off of Fatal Fury and in case you haven't noticed Art of Fighting Fatal Fury sister and prequel series art of fighting takes place in the seventies and eighties while fatal Fury is more modern basically whenever the games were made which was in 90s Fatal Fury therefore Fatal Fury games takes place in the 90s with the exception of the last game Mark of the Wolves which is like 15 years later so it takes place some time during the 2010s I believe but in King of Fighters The Art of fighting characters are the same age the reason for this is because King of Fighters is set in a separate continuity than Fatal Fury the reason for that was that way they could fight alongside each other without having to age them up also in case you haven't noticed King of Fighters is basically kind of like Smash Brothers is a crossover franchise not just with Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting characters it has completely new characters like Team Japan that was created specifically for that game and a Team Japan's rival Team Yamagi also it has characters from Psycho Soldier and Athena Ikari Warriors and Samurai Shodown each of those games have their own continuity but according to King of Fighters they're all the same continuity which is wrong this can also be proven because Ralph Jones and Clark still are also in Metal Slug 6 and Leona joins them in Metal Slug 7 So yeah, King of Fighters within itself is a spin-off and a crossover franchise. God Damn My nerd ass really just wrote a paragraph long commet. I hope somebody actually read this
Don’t worry I read the whole thing. Yeah continuity is actually kind of confusing. A lot of people don’t know this and just assume all the games take place in the same timeline when it doesn’t make sense. you can kind of blame KOF because in one game they’ll have rock as a kid but then be garou age in another or have geese be alive and have the events of fatal fury and art of fighting happen despite the time difference. Let me do you one better one of the only times time has passed in the kof timeline is in 96 because to gets his ass kicked by Goenitz between 95 to 96 and he trains for a year which is why he has his new move set in that game. Pretty strange huh?
Regarding the voice samples in the OST, they were in a sampler CD and used in a bunch of games. Persona 3 as mentioned but also Star Ocean 3 ("Bitter Dance") and others. Anyway I'd like to try Neowave once for the historical value but its not widely available...
Your best shot is emulating it. I recommend the ps2 version or the arcade version. although you might be able to buy it on Xbox one/ series X I’m pretty sure it’s backwards compatible and digital.
Geese was looking pretty. I was thinking that was his younger version too. But then, i was like why is he the only younger looking one. So it's like a dream match ok ok.
I know I did 😂 I thought my copy was broken. Because KOF games are known for having a great story in there arcade modes. So I thought my disc was skipping the endings at first.
I enjoyed this one over KOF 12. That game felt half finished. KOF 13 is what we should've got when KOF 12 came in. The graphics are pretty in part 12. But WTF happened to the storyline in that game
I'm glad YT recommended this. I played this one a few times, and the artwork is so ugly for the most part that this might be the main reason why I remember this KOF exists.
I liked it 🤔 i wished the fighters had an ending ti the arcade run. Besides from that..i didn't have a problem with it. Some if the music was a little too happy. But a lot of KOF music is happy in most games. Now that i think about it. Only the final boss music increase the spooky vibes or awesome rock. Everything else is happy party music or something. I liked the stages in neowave...they was pretty.
More of a 'practice swing' for their next game. The Atomiswave is just a dreamcast with double the memory, they didn't really need to prove the tech, it was nearly five years old at that point. It was more of side-project so SNK could practice on the new hardware without it being a main series game, because apart from those 3d Neo Geo 64 games, this is the first game they made that isn't on Neo Geo hardware since like 1989.
Yes, this in short was a test drive, learning opportunity, because the games that followed improved upon to the point Neowave is pretty forgotten. mental-masochist love this game.
@@thalesonic They have to be altered to only load a bit of things into memory at once off a disc, that's why not every atomiswave game just popped up at once with a burnt CD, they have to be manually reprogrammed to deal with the lower memory, and some of them took longer to adapt. The arcade's extra memory held other stuff (like the title/continue screens, the bit where the little plane flies on the map in Streetfighter 2 kind of things) so there was no loading times in between levels/matches etc like there are on the Dreamcast ports. So the 'game' bit would always work, but without it being adapted it would mess things up when it tries to load in the next thing into the second memory bank that isn't there on a Dreamcast. They just changed the code to stop it from doing that, and loading it later instead so it didn't crash the system. If it needed the video-ram to run the games it wouldn't work on DC without manually adding more memory, like you have to to get Hikaru games to run on OG X-Box. But just changing when and what it loaded is all that it needed on the ported DC games.
I did but I had a very good reason. I didn’t want to go on a tangent about the whole akira characters / Snk bankruptcy / kof2001 fiasco it would just derail the video but I would like to do a video one day going over that whole story
I feel like the sprites feel so out of place to the background because it was probably meant to be played on a CRT, so maybe in that context they look decent idk
i loved it more old 2002 & cannot understand why it's I don't know why they ignore it i can find new high quality kof 95 but neowave!! but to say the truth i felt the the game vibe has something depressing not cuz stages ha not any living things its more about the mix he atomoswave sprites effects "see irori in 98-99 vs ngbc|kof 11 "+background style " it might makes you melancholic but game system make characters tes more balanced & changes the play stay of single character
Kof 03 opening is weird imho....some characters seem deformed (Yamazaki) or in strange poses/scenarios. Nothing compared to Kof 95 where characters are legit badasses
I didn't like that the character art. All of them had the same distinctive noses. They were so out of place. I finally got ahold of this game on the 360 and wasn't impressed. They even used the same vocal samples from Dead or Alive 2. Compare the KOF Neowave select screen theme to Bass' Dead or Alive 2 theme.
⏸ hold up straight out the gate: WRONNNNNNNNNG streetfighter is the longest running. came out in 87 and Google just told me there's like 80 titles. i didn't think there were That many tho ok, back to the video ▶️
I think they're counting the fact that, in the 16 bit days, everything before Super had it's own different name on each console, even though it was still the same arcade conversion. Champion edition on PC Engine, Turbo on SNES, and Special Champion Edition on Megadrive were all just the conversion of Street Fighter II' on each console. EDIT - ooh, and the crossover Vs games as well most likely to get to 80.
I actually liked the maximum impact games, they should have named them fatal fury though since it took place in South Town.. its funny, people who hated MI like the 14 and 15 games.. go figure.. also, Neowave was in fact 29.99.. i still have my gamestop tag on my copy.. you also forgot, you get to beat the shit out of geese during the credit roll once you beat the game!

@@kira_cow6537 I prefer playing them on DC and PS2 to get the extra 3D backgrounds when the original games have 2D ones.
Those ones peaked in say, Neogeo Battle Coliseum on the 360. Quite unique 3D backgrounds in HD lol

It's funny that King of Fighters got a lot of spinoffs, but King of Fighters is a spin-off within itself the King of Fighters is a spin-off of Fatal Fury and in case you haven't noticed Art of Fighting Fatal Fury sister and prequel series art of fighting takes place in the seventies and eighties while fatal Fury is more modern basically whenever the games were made which was in 90s Fatal Fury therefore Fatal Fury games takes place in the 90s with the exception of the last game Mark of the Wolves which is like 15 years later so it takes place some time during the 2010s I believe but in King of Fighters The Art of fighting characters are the same age the reason for this is because King of Fighters is set in a separate continuity than Fatal Fury the reason for that was that way they could fight alongside each other without having to age them up also in case you haven't noticed King of Fighters is basically kind of like Smash Brothers is a crossover franchise not just with Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting characters it has completely new characters like Team Japan that was created specifically for that game and a Team Japan's rival Team Yamagi also it has characters from Psycho Soldier and Athena Ikari Warriors and Samurai Shodown each of those games have their own continuity but according to King of Fighters they're all the same continuity which is wrong this can also be proven because Ralph Jones and Clark still are also in Metal Slug 6 and Leona joins them in Metal Slug 7
So yeah, King of Fighters within itself is a spin-off and a crossover franchise.
*best hack chanel !!*
8:08 The Young Geese Howard boss fight
fun video, didn't know about this one
6:26 Secret characters
The Orochi team were some of them but not Orochi Leona or Orochi Iori
I always wanted to play this game 🤣🤣
Bro the mugen for the kof are simply amazing! The amount of fans can create from existing characters with their own twists...
It’s a well of endless possibilities and creativity
I bought this game brand new from the airport when it was first released. I remember paying £20, official price.
That’s an odd place to buy a video game. Thanks for the info!
Geese was looking pretty. I was thinking that was his younger version too. But then, i was like why is he the only younger looking one. So it's like a dream match ok ok.
Something I learned about the track, Spirits, is that the voice samples are Islamic chants. In Zelda's case, future versions removed the chanting.
This game is a fantasy match.. it never happened because Geese was officially in KoF 96.
Don’t have this game but love BATTLE COLOSEUM
Neo Geo Battle coliseum is super good and way too underrated
Yashahiro. lol. Good video though man
Thanks
Need to check out KOF: Final Attack
I’ll get to that after I talk about KOF skystage and kof 1999 (the other one)
I feel bad for people who bought this game thinking it was a new installment in the series. Same level as KOF 12.
@@jeremyhall2727 KOF 12 was just a prototype.
@@chris_t2020 ohhh, will that explains a lot. I wished they would've added a story story to it. Any little thing
I'm glad YT recommended this. I played this one a few times, and the artwork is so ugly for the most part that this might be the main reason why I remember this KOF exists.
It’s definitely distinct
I liked it 🤔 i wished the fighters had an ending ti the arcade run. Besides from that..i didn't have a problem with it. Some if the music was a little too happy. But a lot of KOF music is happy in most games. Now that i think about it. Only the final boss music increase the spooky vibes or awesome rock. Everything else is happy party music or something. I liked the stages in neowave...they was pretty.
That is one out of place looking UI.
we should get kyo dad!
It’s about time they brought him back, he’s fun
Wasn't this game just a tech demo for the hardware?
More of a 'practice swing' for their next game.
The Atomiswave is just a dreamcast with double the memory, they didn't really need to prove the tech, it was nearly five years old at that point. It was more of side-project so SNK could practice on the new hardware without it being a main series game, because apart from those 3d Neo Geo 64 games, this is the first game they made that isn't on Neo Geo hardware since like 1989.
Yes, this in short was a test drive, learning opportunity, because the games that followed improved upon to the point Neowave is pretty forgotten. mental-masochist love this game.
@@hybridviggaActually nowadays is known that the systems are identical, no extra memory. You can play Neowave on a regular Dreamcast.😊
Still waiting for them to make geowave
Low hanging fruit dude.
This is the best comment on this video. I’m really mad I didn’t think of this myself
I love kof
I love kof too
U left out the fact the non copyrighted Akira character is in this game only appears in this and one other game.
I did but I had a very good reason. I didn’t want to go on a tangent about the whole akira characters / Snk bankruptcy / kof2001 fiasco it would just derail the video but I would like to do a video one day going over that whole story
Why is Young Version of Goose Coward the Final Boss in Neo Wave?
They had the lease for geese
I didn't like this game when I played it back in 2022, though I do like the soundtrack.
I feel like the sprites feel so out of place to the background because it was probably meant to be played on a CRT, so maybe in that context they look decent idk
That’s a really great point. I wish I still had my old crt to test that theory out.
I had KOF Maximum Impact and this game looks better.
i loved it more old 2002 & cannot understand why it's I don't know why they ignore it i can find new high quality kof 95 but neowave!! but to say the truth i felt the the game vibe has something depressing not cuz stages ha not any living things its more about the mix he atomoswave sprites effects "see irori in 98-99 vs ngbc|kof 11 "+background style " it might makes you melancholic but game system make characters tes more balanced & changes the play stay of single character
Kof 03 opening is weird imho....some characters seem deformed (Yamazaki) or in strange poses/scenarios.
Nothing compared to Kof 95 where characters are legit badasses
I know what you mean Ash always looked off to me in the intro. Kof 2003 is just plain strange.

Look up "Dong Dong Never Die Judgement Day"
Thank me later
I’m well aware of the dong dong
the GUI is just ugly. these healhbars and so on
The graphics are nice. But the interface is horrible
Really? I liked it especially compared to how plain things are nowadays. It has character 😃
I’ll have to check dead or alive 2 thanks for the info
"Adamiss wave"
🤣
Ya that makes it sound like an AI voiced this thing. But I bet that's the way it has to be said aloud via Utube policies.
Nope that’s just how I sound. No AI used
Back then Chizuru was not popular in the west. It really sucked she was hardly in any Kof games. 2003 then a decade long hiatus.
It really is. Hopefully they keep her around for more than one game
I played this a couple of times.
Kof should end in '98 (and then close with '98 UM as the golden key).
Nah kof 2000,2002 and 11 are great games we would’ve missed out on if we stopped at 98
It has the best version of Geese Howard, pretty backgrounds, and it's much better than shit ass KOF 2003.
But kof 2003 has shen woo and garou Terry
Horrible art
Garbage game even 2k1 is better don't Camper it to 2k2 noob
⏸
hold up
straight out the gate:
WRONNNNNNNNNG
streetfighter is the longest running.
came out in 87 and Google just told me there's like 80 titles.
i didn't think there were That many tho
ok, back to the video ▶️
I think they're counting the fact that, in the 16 bit days, everything before Super had it's own different name on each console, even though it was still the same arcade conversion.
Champion edition on PC Engine, Turbo on SNES, and Special Champion Edition on Megadrive were all just the conversion of Street Fighter II' on each console.
EDIT - ooh, and the crossover Vs games as well most likely to get to 80.
"One of the longest-running"
"one of the" = not the only one.
I use to play this on Xbox. Fun game 😅
$30 isn’t so bad. Maximum impact is extremely underrated.
Hi, I'm new to ur channel. I just hit subscribe. Ever thought of a collab? I reccomend GuileWinQuote, Khanage, Baberuthless, or TheSeventhFoece
Thanks! Never really considered it. I’m down for collaborating with anyone as long as it’s fighting games related.
