Something that is somewhat related to this topic but I remember when I saw Snake and Bayonetta was in SSB series and while there fun welcome addition to the SSB Series I will admit they kind of stick out on the roster because with Snake while Sakurai did incredible job incorporating him in SSB it is a little strange seeing him chokehold and use military weapons on colorful Nintendo characters and Bayonetta to this day I’m surprised how they manage to get her a Smash Bros despite coming from a hard M game series.

You’re missing Flying Dragon on the N64. The game basically has two different versions of Flying Dragon on the cart, (more given some of the other options) there’s a standard version of Flying Dragon on it and an SD version of Flying Dragon, with each version having its own unique characters as opposed to SD mode being them making the heads bigger and shrinking down the characters models.
It’d be kind of like if Capcom releases Street Fighter 3, and Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix was an alternate Street Fighter 3 you could select at the opening.

Harada will probably block any or all attempts at possible bad spin offs of his beloved franchise.
His collaboration with Capcom's SF X Tekken and its scummy DLC and gem system left a sour taste in his mouth that the closest thing we got to their version of Tekken X SF was Akuma in Tekken 7.

What a great episode. This belongs in a museum. Funnily enough, I've been craving the old handheld fighting games lately. First time I've ever wanted to go back to play those, as I've only ever played a KOF game on GameBoy and Power Rangers on the Game Gear back in the day. Power Rangers on GG is top tier when it comes old school handheld fighters, btw. Not sure it would belong on this list, as it wasn't trying to be "cute", but it definitely succeeded as a fighter with a great single-player mode. I have it installed on my modded Switch right now. Been planning on revisiting this truly hidden gem.

@@TheSeventhForce Keep in mind I was a little kid! I've seen a couple reviews of it lately, and they shared the same sentiment that I did as a kid. The PR games have good fighting mechanics. This is a really fun subgenre of fighter that I wish could make a return. And I actually didn't even know about GG Petit, I legitimately hope one day we can get some WonderSwan rereleases/collection like they did for the NG Pocket Color.
Also, I do distinctly remember playing Super Gem Fighter as an unlockable bonus in the Street Fighter Alpha Anthology on PS2 and doing the whole pointing at the TV meme when I saw Ryu, Nina and Peco in that one stage... and playing as Felicia just because she transformed into Megaman in that one combo xD

    • @TheSeventhForce

I think the main issue with the Wonderswan library in particular is that a lot of it is made up of RPGs and games with a lot of text. Sure, they could be localized, but I can't imagine the market for an endeavor like that being profitable enough to justify it. I'm honestly still (pleasantly) surprised SNK re-released most of their NGPC stuff.
I think a few ports of Wonderswan stuff did make it over to GBA though; I know the GBA ports of Final Fantasy I, II and IV are based on their Wonderswan Color versions.

While not having the chibi or super deformed style, I think the og Smash Bros for the N64 fits perfectly on this topic. I don't know how to explain it, but to this day it still holds a charm that no other game in the franchise has. From the character's expressions and animations, specially on the victory screens, the goofy ahh sound effects and OST and even the intro of the game itself made of this one of my favorite games in the whole figting game genre. Just merely because of how it looks and sounds.

Its so funny watching this video because it helped me realize how Chibi art style will go through different phases of appealing/unappealing in my life. As a young kid, I really couldn't stand it because I thought it just looked weird. In my mid and late teens I thought it was pretty cool because of how playful and colorful it appeared. It kinda phased out as a young adult likely because I started to appreciate the complexities or nuances of other styles but now in adulthood, I'm more neutral and like it most as an option rather than a preference. Who knows how that will change later on.

Mortal Kombat Deception also has SD Mortal Kombat characters in the form of Puzzle Kombat, a mode that's a take on Puzzle Fighter.
Flying Dragon for N64 also has two separate modes of play one cartoony and one normal. And no it's not a one off, Hiryu No Ken is a long running series seemingly going back all the way to NES. You remember Ultimate Fighter for SNES? Well if you did, that's a Westernized Hiryu No Ken game! They're not all "fighting game" in the traditional sense or at all, but I think it counts. Well this was a welcome surprise, I would definitely not have guessed chibi style fighters was what the community post was referring to, but it's a cool subject to talk about imo.
I haven't actually played Pocket Fighter yet despite having Capcom Fighting Collection, but I really need to do that, it just looks so charming and fun, didn't know about the PS1 exclusive "Maker" mode though, now I honestly want to get that version even more, (Despite already owning CFC) and considering I want to try and collect for the Wonderswan, since it's such an interesting handheld, I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for that port, and GG Petite 1 and 2. Never forget that Sakura called Saikyo style re!@%&ed in the OG version, never forget. (Also, that card battle mode in PF Wonderswan is literally just Tekken Card Challenge, the Tekken game released for the Wonderswan lol)
I also absolutely *adore* the style for the Neo Geo Pocket fighting games as well, I want those collections so bad, you have no idea. I love how the sprites look so much. (Wasn't there also an indie fighter that uses the art style for it's sprites as well? I think I remember seeing something like that from the indie scene)
And two other things, 1, you mentioning VFK is just reminding me how badly I want SEGA to just make some sort of Saturn equivalent to Sonic's Ultimate Genisis Collection, or just a SEGA arcade fighter collection. (You have some of them working in an emulator in a game engine already Sega COME ON!) And 2, I genuinely want to play BlayzBloo Super Melee Brawlers for only three very simple reasons, 1, there is so little coverage for the game it's not even funny, 2, just to see if it's even any good, and 3, because it lets me play as chibi Taokaka from the Teach Me Ms. Lichi and Help Me Professor Kokonoe skits.

    • @TheSeventhForce
      @TheSeventhForce  2 месяца назад +1

Yeah, the card games are pretty similar, lol. I think the main difference is that you can't actually control what you play out of your hand in the Tekken one
And the indie game you're thinking of is Pocket Bravery! I actually meant to shout that one out in the video as well, but I guess it slipped my mind. I'll find another opportunity to mention it in the future.

    • @SirIsaacFortesque

@@TheSeventhForce That's weird, I don't know if it's actually Pocket Bravery, I could swear I saw another game with a similar art style to the NGP games, but it didn't look like Pocket Bravery did, instead it had sprites closer to the actual Neo Geo Pocket ones where they were white with a color that matched the actual character designs... Am I going crazy or something? because I remember something like it that wasn't PB.
