      That is smart. I actually traded in the Buffalos I had for silver eagles. I decided it was smarter to go with coins as opposed to rounds. I do still have a couple hundred ounces of rounds. I just kept the ones I really like the design on. But as far as stacking, coins are the safe bet I think.

      Raspberry Pi that’s awesome dude, I got a question you might be able to answer, how come the Austrian mint doesn’t put the 999 silver on the coin? I just got my first tube didn’t notice till now 🤣

    One thing to add: The reeds on the coins' edge was added to stop people in earlier times from shaving off precious metal. These reeds just remained on modern coins after, when the coins were no longer made of precious metal. So that is one thing to consider when stacking these coins; the reeded edge is a security feature, one of the first to be created among coins. If you're making large purchases of these coins, I'd take measurements in diameter and weight to insure that they haven't been machined down.

    • @juandiegas8211
      @juandiegas8211 2 года назад +2

      Does the edge of these coins look to have a seam going around the coin? I only have one, so nothing to compare it to. The coin looks great, but the Chinese are making casting counterfeits, which would have a seam.

      Yes but keep in mind if you are a North American buyer you want coins that will be most recognizable for your area geographically speaking, such as the maple and the eagle if you live in the United States. If you want to barter and trade, some people may not even recognize the Austrian philharmonic. Just saying.

    Me and my buddy both stack. We treat it like a race so it's a challenge for us both to keep each other going and saving up assets. We both go and every few months buy a tube of 20 Philharmonics (sealed in mint tube) each, so two total. That brings the price over $1,000, and in my state, that makes it tax free.
    I enjoy the Phil's because they are a national mint recognized coin, not just generic bullion, but their premiums are extremely low compared to ASE, which admittedly, I am in love with. I just can't help myself trading fiat for less silver simply because of a design preference.
    Phil's are becoming more recognizable, and trusted. And with it becoming easier and more efficient to weed out fakes of any kind, they become more and more liquid.

    thx for the topic. As an european stacker i can say that the Philharminics and Arche Noas are the best bang for bucks here. The cheapest ASE i can find are usualle 0.30€ to 0.40€ above Philhamonics and Arche Noas. So, for stacking as much as possibly they are my first choice.

    I'm new to buying silver and I tend to go back and forth between bars, coins and rounds based on price and for wanting to diversify. I like the coins because if the premium isn't too bad then you also have the ability for the coin to rise in price as well as the value of the silver. Am I correct in thinking that way or not? I'd appreciate any advice from those that have more experience than I do. Thanks in advance.

    In Europe there seems to be two-three choices for cheap coins - not considering the current situation. Philharmonics, Krugerrands and Maples seens very close mostly Phils being the cheapest and Krugers at a close 2nd place. But I believe it's also a bit up to the dealer. My next purchase in silver bullion will be Krugerrands - because I haven't got any in my stack (mainly focusing on gold). I like to diversify a little as long as it is not at outrageous premiums. Hence I might also get some of the Australians at some point - but I'll stay clear of all the collectors and semi collectors stuff from dealers because premiums are too high. 2nd hand I'll buy any silver if I think the price is right. Btw. I do believe the silver Krugerrands got the "micro letters" security like their gold counterpart (since 2017 or so. I got a 2018 Kruger that positively has microletters).

    Whether a transaction is taxable is different than whether it is reportable on form 1099-B. You are correct that selling American Eagles does not require the dealer to report the transaction. It is still taxable to the extent that your sale price is greater than your purchase price. It will likely qualify for capital gains tax for most people who are collectors. I enjoy your videos! I am a new collector but an old tax professional.😀

    • @SilverDragons47

    Just an observation that I have made. The philharmonic doesn't have the reeded edge like the maple leaf or the ASE or a lot of other silver coins. It has smooth edges. I have one of those and I also have a silver panthera tigris coin from Laos (silver tiger). That coin also has smooth edges like the philharmonic. I like both reeded edges and smooth but I have noticed that most silver 1 oz coins (not including rounds) have the reeded edge. I think both designs are fine though.
