- Kent and Deanna Peters had to shovel for nine hours to clear the snow from a horse stable on their ranch. A photo of Kent beside a six-metre snow drift next to the building spread widely on social media.

You can't get more typical Canadian than these two... smiling in the face of adversity. Good on you!!
They shovelled out an insulated wall so a dump rag newspaper can flick the bean, during a time where they called a state of emergency to test response for the summer tourist season. Instead of shovelling out a wall, where were they to assist the oversaturation of feeble, frail old people this population reduced itself to? That's the real adversity.
A great couple. Keep smiling 👍😊♥️
I love the Maritimes, beautiful people and beautiful country. Hugs from Calgary.
hugs back, really our country has to come together, time for a revolution
Just love their spirit! Family support is everything. This couple shows what is all about. Thanks for the interview. Inspiring ❤
We lived in Nova Scotia for years, we live in Ontario now, on our own farm. Nice to see Kent and Deanna Peters Hunkering down and getting it done. I hope they are ok i don't think we have ever seen that amount of Snow while we were living out east. Keep smiling you two, all the best to you both. Nice Photo by the way. Congrats on the viral pic. We did have to have our neighbours come dig us out the drift hit the side of our house and blocked the front and back doors so we couldn't get out but it wasn't that high. I am 5'3" tall and i can say it was about 6 feet or so i guess but we had great neighbours they came and helped us dig our way out of the house safety but that drift they had there was massive. Well done guys. We do what we have to do to survive its always a good thing to stock up when it comes to storms in Canada cos you never know what you are gonna get till its all over. Stay safe Kent and Deanna Peters God bless you two and your family.
Real Canadians! Built tough and zero complaining! They just getter done! Shout out from the prairies!
So true. Real Canada.
They can be very resilient.
You have to be resilient! Life is tough and the world is mean.
It's winter, in Canada, and more Nova Scotians need to remember our roots and stop whining. These two are a great example to us all! xx
If that amount happened anywhere in the UK it would be a complete standstill.
Took 8 hrs and two people to dig out. Buried one of my heat pumps. So glad I got that second heat pump cause it is cold AF right now. Stay safe everyone.❤
I'm glad you had a second heat pump. My friend who has lived in Yarmouth for 14 years says that this is the coldest winter he had in Nova Scotia. You're more up north and got about 1,000 times the snow he got that day of only 2 inches and you had 5 feet ++++
Love the good spirits. I grew up in the north, every winter I feel like I always need to stock up just in case we get snowed in in Toronto.
And we got a while lotta nothing in Toronto this year. It's been a weird winter 🤨
I love Nova Scotia cape breton is beautiful
I was so blessed years ago to visit that area of Nova Scotia and this does not surprise me a huge winter storm will not ever deter any Canadian…Plus the are they live the people are All exceptionally giving and nice…I have travelled to many places but Cape Breton is beautiful and if you can go the warmer months do so…Just the Cape Breton drive is heavenly….Love this couple too and how sweet they are…I find in smaller places in Canada you see Canadians being true Canadians…Please Stay Safe 🙏🙏🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️
I almost died as a kid. I dug a tunnel into a huge snow drift. And it collapsed on me. Thankfully my dad was watching me and saw what happened. Lesson learned the hard way.
I recall kids getting killed in my day playing in the snow banks on the road by big snow removers.
As a kid, I remember jumping off 2 story hotel roofs into snow banks. Cape Breton is a great place except winter
I did the same in Glace Bay. lol
@@bruce8321 Same here in NB in the early 70s, but off a three story house.
I love their gorgeous smiles
The 31" inch snow in 18 hours in Colorado pales in comparison to this storm,Stay safe and get plenty of protein!
To those in these sort of situations, make sure that your furnace is able to exhaust properly or it’ll be a coroner picking you up, not a snowplow.
Brave couple. Stay safe.
What a sweet couple!
I got squeezed out of the North End of Halifax and now I'm up in the northern mainland of Nova Scotia.
I have a view of Prince Edward Island and I'm snowed in up here. I have not seen any snowplows since
last night. I think it will be awhile till the road is cleared here. Just stay warm inside!
unless you need to shovel the roof to keep it from collapsing. stay safe.
stay warm & safe!!!👍
True Canadian spirit ❤️
Hello from Vancouver BC Canada 🇨🇦 it's pretty warm ,no snow' but alot of rain'
Hasn’t rained since last week, just nippy now in the sun
Wonderful spirit, adorable couple.
A good strong couple working together:) Everyone needs highly insulated safety rooms with a small wood heater with a week of wood...just in case 🇨🇦:)
Love this couple and be safe out there including the horses! Hugs, neighbors in Canada!
Assuming the husband did all the shovelling? 🤣 Deanna set the record straight because we no longer live in a Leave It To Beaver world. Did you see all the snow? 😂
🙄
So that's where all our snow went from Toronto, Ontario. 🤗
You must be fun at parties.
We are still lucky to live in Toronto! Whew! Stay safe!!!!
We desperately need that in Alberta!!!!
From Toronto here😇 I applaud you guys you are both amazing people, you're both a modern real life super heroes both to your family and kids and your community. 🙏 sending all my support and prayers to you guys... Go Go Go WINter... We CANadians are result oriented with a big ❤️ to show 🌎🌏🌍🇨🇦
Such a sweet couple.
Much love to our Canadian neighbors....sent from Pennsylvania...Bravo....
The most wholesome and adorable couple ever! (And her nails are on point!)
I remember an Easter back in the late 40’s when a storm left banks up to our upstairs windows. No emergency services to dig us out in those days.
Your once in a Billion Photo and video says it all. Wow. Instant fame.
GOD Bless you both and your family and your horses stay well and safe sending Good Wishes from Cornwall, Ontario,Canada
Have you ever had it that high before? That had to be scary. Prayers will lifted up for you from America..
Brave couple stay safe ❤
Have a great day 😍
Cape'ers rule.
From Alberta.
What a beautiful couple it makes me proud to be from Nova Scotia❤❤❤❤
Thanx for keeping up your end that Canada is a winter disaster, no snow here in south central Ontario
Thank you for your comment. I live on the east coast of Cape Breton. It is a beautiful place to live or visit in the summer. ❤
What a cool,nice couple,stay safe
Wow,stay safe incredible😊
Looks like they got ALL the snow while most of Canada got none.
On a side note, for anyone watching from the U.S. if you listen, you will notice when they say about they pronounce it about, not aboot. Same with the newscaster. This is normal.
@@CMaiaMC I can only tell that they have a different accent than those from other places in Canada.
And I have never heard anyone pronounce it "aboot", but I have heard many pronounce roof like woof and ruf.
Three There was barely any snow at all on the ground just a couple day's ago too
Great video ❤❤
What a delightful couple from here in snow starved BC Interior. Teamwork makes the dream work. All the more power to you. Maybe a friend can drop off a pizza by helicopter.
drop one via a drone?
By ski doo ❤
It's a drift against a building. I recall our driveway in Manitoba having more in the 70s and having a valley higher than the roofs of cars after the neighbours plowed it. That was regular snow
Wow!
Nasty snowstorm. Too bad the government here isn't on the ball and so many people are stuck in their homes. I'm in NS and I'm dealing with 40 foot snow drifts. Worst storm in 20 years.
Such a crazy winter. In most of Minnesota we have no snow, and have been in the 40's - 50's for a week in the Minneapolis area. This time last year there was a few feet on the ground. There was even a tornado in Wisconsin yesterday!
Gosh thats a lot of snow since winter storm in my place i think we have 8 inches since that thiers no snow forcast for a while the weather over here just tatse like fall
Thinking of Gampo Abbey too, home of Pema Chodron and her buddhist community, just 3 hours across Cape Breton there.
What a lovely couple ❤❤❤
Nova Scotia people are the strongest. Always all kinds of weather in the east . I'm glad I'm one!!
That is NUTS! Hope everything goes well for them
I've seen a lot of shoveling from you amazing people with an amazing attitude. In all the videos I've been watching of people dealing with this tremendous storm, I haven't seen anyone with a snow blower?? Everyone is talking about shoveling, but no one is saying they had a snow blower... Would it even help? I'm in Minnesota and we get snow but never too much that a snow blower wouldn't help somewhat...LOL
Small ones good after shovelling...snow heavy, wet and high...and hard to get on the roof.....
You can’t blow out wet snow, high snow banks or snow on a roof. Now if you had a big tractor with a bucket, but you have to have a lot of money for one of those and in this case, hope it wasn’t buried in snow either. 😮
They are right next to Greenland which is covered in kilometres of glaciers. So I am not too surprised. Only reason Nova Scotia is inhabited is the Golf Stream. Here in Denmark we get the benefit of the Golf Stream as well
so sweet
WOW!
😲😳 oh my goodness!! Jaw dropping!!
Makes me feel like a wimpy whiner, having to shovel snow over here in the NorCal snowzone Tahoe basin.
Not so much! Out there its the floods. All that rain from the atmospheric river and the landslides. Scary!
@@michaelrmurphy2734 👍
We all have our regional issues. There's hardy people everywhere, cuz! from NS
Lol, is that where all the snow went? We have hardly any in central BC😢
Keep safe
I remember as a kid in Glace bay jumping out of a 2nd floor window into the snow it was that bad.... do not get this normally now
Salut!..from Montreal..flashbacks of the ice storm of '98 - an eerie fairytale, that was..wait a bit, 'til the road's clear to send that all dressed 😉 ❤ 🙏🏽
Haven't had any in Minnesota
I was riding my Harley a few days ago in February
Can't believe I'm watching CBC 😱 But it was a cool photo. 😀
Fve days since the video. I hope the Peters are ok as well as others. Steve in Gatineau, Québec .
what is the Instagram??
Primier Tim Houston said this was a "media stunt" for Cape Breton to declare a State of Emergency. Yet the Fire Department stopped responding to calls as their trucks kept getting stuck.
So how did said declaration help the fire department? Right. It's NS, we get snowed in. I don't care for Houston's comments, but just my own thought was ... it kept people inside, and maybe allowed business to claim losses.
He had to apologize...
Aww, I love Nova Scotia!
Home Hardware sells environmentally friendly sprinkle salts to ebb snow accumulation, if applied 4 feet thick.
Yes, a very typical East coaster friendly lovely couple. We Canadians are great….
Anyone else see that video of those people using a rope to clear the snow off? It was like magic
You all are acting like youve never seen a 9 ft snowdrift in Canada. I used to have to shovel my folks driveway in Prince George everyday amd it was like thiiis some years. As soon as I moved out, they bought a snowblower ffs.
You’re comparing the tip of Cape Breton off the Atlantic to mid inland BC lol basically the ends of the country, of course the weather is different 😂 may as well compare Iqaluit to Vancouver 🤣🤣
When i see snow like this, i know the 'oot' and 'aboot' will follow ❤
It's strange that their roads haven't been cleared.
In Switzerland the roads in the city are the responsibility of the local government and the roads in the countryside are assigned to different farmers for them to clear.
So if you're ever in Switzerland when there is a massive snow fall, then at about 4 or 5 in the morning all the farmers will be driving their trackors around, and all the roads in the Swiss countryside should be clear by 6 in the morning.
The Canadian government should get the farms to deal with the snow, then it would be cleared no problem.
True Canadian spirit ️
Wow! That's insane. It reminds me of one of the reasons I left the Maritimes decades ago.
how are the horses?
Hi , Lkw Plane über das Dach ist klug, sodass wenn dann sehr viel Schnee auf das Dach gefallen ist , diese mit einer Winde und einem Seil herunter zu ziehen !:) Grüße aus Deutschland !:)
"it was aboot 20ft" Canadian af.
Snowplows; ‘we don’t expect them to make it out here when there’s so many people that need it in town”. yup. True Canadians…. ❤
This couple should do an ad for perfect teeth.
Just wonderful 😂
They said 20-30cm
But I got over one meter
They should be hired as CBC snow informant!
5:38 ... that hit...
Dayum!
I don’t get why the snow is so tall beside him in the pic. Someone educate me I’m not used to snow like that .i thought was just one metre
That’s the snow and drifting that he dug through.
When the wind blows, the snow drifts. Think of the changing sand dunes of the desert. That's why these are called "snow drifts". I've seen bare pavement next to a 5-foot drift, after White Juan, which had hurricane-force winds. from NS
wind drifts the snow around and piles up against the buildings.
If companies could get to them it would be great PR for the companies in helping those in need and not even snow will stop the company to helping their clients #capebreton #influenstercanada
Please send to Alberta…
a sculpting opportunity!
Welcome to Kitimat BC circa 1950’s 1960’s, 1970’s 2000’s and 2010’s. Big whoop. Show us something we haven’t seen before in Canada. 6:16
You should of brought them a pizza of some kind of supplies to help them 150 cm of snow is no joke CBC news
I'm from Nova Scotia born and raised in Yarmouth!!! We never had snow growing up
You must be young.
@@rps1689 A quick google confirms that Yarmouth has had snow every year since before 1900. :)
@@jennifermarlow. As I suspected. Cheers. One saying Yarmouth without snow in the winters would be like saying Vancouver without rain in the winters ; )
They are good people, if I had the money I'd buy them a snowmobile.
These two are going to sleep good tonight lol. God bless them.
Here…hold on..
Flat roofs would be really bay
They should own their own bobcat
Biggest concern with this much snow is the roof. Can't put a bobcat on the roof!
