Can You Mix Pearl Paints Together to Get New Colors? - Acrylic Pouring Art Experiment

- Опубликовано: 28 май 2024
- I will say that this experiment was a success. It was hard to tell from the technique that I used though. The pearl white and pink mixed together to give more of a silver than a true pink and that created much less contrast in the painting. That is ok though, because the other colors definitely showed up! Next I will try them as a puddle pour and show the true colors in each puddle. Hope you enjoy the video! Thank you so much for watching. Happy painting!

It looks like a rose/flower when the sun has only touched the outer petals - very nice design 😍
It does! thanks
Molly, you are correct when you say the design is super gorgeous! Even though the pearl colors are very subtle, it’s still very pretty!🥰
Love the blue-green and the blue-violet! They remind me of peacock feathers!
Omg that little bit turquoise reveal is gorgeous!!!!!
I love that design & composition too! That’s pretty minimalistic as far as colors, as far as your pieces usually are 😊
But you’re so cute!! Such a joy to watch! I was laughing with you dealing with your glove that gave you a hard time 😂😂💜
Ooohhhh that blue green though 💙💚
Mutig mutig liebe Molly , dass du für uns solche Experimente herstellst , zum Teil ist es gut gelungen, danke dir herzlich🙏❤️🫶🙋🏼♀️🇨🇭
thank you!
I love watching your podcasts! You put a smile on my face!
Oh thank you!
Wow, that is super cool. It looks like a 3D flower ❤🌸
Thanks so much 😊
I so need to clean up my studio. Watching your video will get me going on cleaning up so i can pour
I love this one so very much. I would like a little more blue. I really really really LOVE THIS ONE
I think its more beautiful BECAUSE of the subtlety of the pearl colors. Love it!!
I just thought you might like to know that I watch because you are so refreshing and you have a beautiful smile. I love your laugh. I don't even do this kind of art.
That is so sweet! Thank you so much!! That means a lot to me
The composition and design are so so nice! xxx
It came out in such a great design, love it. I had really good luck making teal, purple, magenta and red/orange but I didn't like the bronzy yellow/orange I got. I also found that pearl white takes over whatever you add to it 😢 so I couldn't get a pink either. Looking forward to your next one!
Love it 😍 It has a zentangle vibe to it 😊
Elephant eye 👁️ Love it.
Cant stop saying it, I love the pearl colours. They are all white but turns to colour. Wow Im amazed😍😍😍😍😍
First! Love all your paintings Molly !
thank you so much!
Your welcome!!
I really like the way that the colors are somewhat subdued, but very pretty. The design is great also.
Thank you! 😊
So beautiful! And u wrecked it exactly the way I hoped u would and I was screaming please leave the center, and u did! 🙌🙌🙌
This pattern would've been beautiful even just black n white but I love the colors too! Gorgeous! 😍😍
I love that you tried this idea. I live these pearl paints but there is something about them that they are very dull and underwhelming like you said. The concept though of paints you can really see while your doing the painting and then seeing how it's dries looks so super fun haha. Just don't know if I'm crazy about how pale of colors they are, ya know.
Thanks for the experiment Molly! You are amazing.
Even your experiments are cool! ❤
I love!!! This one! So beautifully subtle❤
I Paused so I could start typing my comment. I hope you enjoyed watching the design move as much as I did. (I've wrecked pours because watching the lines change was so hypnotic that I couldn't stop, and the pour was overworked.) This is my favorite composition of all your ring pours.
"I don't think I've missed a video. Have you used the @EricaHughesArt spinner yet?" AND as I typed that sentence, you mentioned it!
When I started painting, I couldn't even mix paints without hearing your voice in my head. Must have been a good voice, since I've been at it now for three years.
What do you mix your Pearl colors with please?
This is beautiful. Reminds me of a rose. Can't wait until the next video. I'm super interested in mixing the pearl paints and the results!❤
Thank you so much!
So excited to see this. The orange was very pretty my favorite mixture. But that blue-green is literally the color of my hair and that make me laugh. Do miss seeing the pink. But all in all this was an awesome experiment!
This was a fun and adventurous video.
Super cool design. Thanks for experimenting and sharing!!😁😘
Cool experiment Center looks dark but I love the edges. Can’t wait for this series as I love the pearl paints! Thanks for always inspiring us on RUclips! Love from NB Canada!
Thanks so much!
Great experiment, even if the colors all didn't show up the way you wanted them to. Take out your paint pens, and play coloring page on the dull spots~ have fun, that's the end result you really want, right?! Love your stuff!!
It's beautiful. I love the colors. I think those would be the perfect to use in the painting I talked to you about.
🎉WOW, that’s awesome!!🎉
What a great experiment. Thank you so much for sharing these with us so we all learn. Can't wait to see more.
Thank you claudia!
Wow!!! I'm so in love with this painting!! The colors are gorgeous 😍. Giggle- I also see a Shar Pei dog's face in the center. 😅
It’s like a kaleidoscope! I need to hit the lotto and just go on a spree of buying your paintings!
thanks again!!!!
What a fun experiment!! Now I’m inspired to try to make a pink !! I’ll let you know! Just recovering from knee replacement so I’m a bit behind in the class, but
I’ll post there if I figure it out! Thanks for doing that.
Beautiful! ❤ I've been experimenting with mixing the pearl paints. I just finished a Phoenix with a white background in pearl colors. I mixed my Pearl Paints to get an orange and a light blue. I found a piece of black poster board and added drops of the mixed paint, let it dry, and was able to see if I needed to add more color to adjust the shade. I found the pearl paint just needs a black background, which made it an option for me to have a white background, black gesso where I wanted the Phoenix, added the pearl over the gesso painted area, blew out with some black for contrast, and the colors dried amazing. I think you may have mentioned in a previous video that you would like to be able to have a white background while maintaining the vibrancy of the pearl paint. The video where you puddled black/pearl over white. If you're interested, my idea would be to use a black canvas. The only caveat would be preventing the white from mixing with the pearl on the canvas. 😊
I really love fluid art ...nice result ... 😊😊😊
it turned out incredible!
Sometimes, I feel like you and I are on completely the same wavelength. As you were hitting your first corner, I was saying out loud, I wish you would spin this painting, it would look so floral and not have the corner things that happen with tilting. And just as I said it, you talked about your Erica spinner! I do like the composition as well. That blue-green color is my fave - super pretty.
Interesting experiment. Looking forward to seeing your next one.
Thank you!
I normally don't like wrecking but this one turned out so well. Love these colors Molly! Hope you are well. ❤
I think it’s cool and it was a great experiment Molly 😀 👍🏼 I have some of these pearl paints left and I really need to try some more paintings with them 🎨
What a very cool expérience thank you for sharing with us very lovely result 👏👏👏
My pleasure 😊
I think it’s ok not my favorite but it is very hard on Pearl paints! It’s not a waste cause u always learn something and we get to see first hand basically how it don’t turn out but oh well maybe next painting ur still very entertaining to watch I always wait for next video! Love ya Molly! ❤❤❤
Oh my that blue green turquoisey colour ❤. I actually love this the design is gorgeous ( even though I was saying no don't wreck it 😂) but you nailed it as always. 😊
Molly, this looks so cool! I really love the minimalist, almost monochrome look to it. Contrasted with the busy design, it looks so good!
Maybe try using a tester when you mix the paints? Have a black coaster or mini canvas beside you and put a drop of your colour onto it, dry it with a heat gun or blow dryer so you can see if you need more red in your pink mix etc?
The other suggestion I'd make is to do thicker layers of each colour when you layer your ring pour cup. I watched a Mina Villegas video where she explained that the thinner the layers in the cup, the more they mix and blend. Thicker layers mean you see more of each colour, and they don't blend as much.
thanks!
Molly, this is a really cool experiment! Maybe you can use less pearl white and more pearl red! I love the design, and when you first wrecked it it looked like a kaleidoscope! The tilt and colors are very beautiful!
What fun experiment!! I finally got some pearlescent paints & played with them yesterday!! I did a wrecked puddle pour, red & white on black on white base. & then wanted to see if the pearlescent white would work as swipe color… they are still drying… not sure how they will look. One thing about these paints, teaches you about delayed gratification!!!! 😂😂😂😂
On ya, Molly! ❤👍
If you stand back can you see the lions head with his beautiful ruff around his head and neck looking out at you? The mouth is a little weird but he is cool. The colors are great, Molly!! Happy New Year.
Interesting experiment....love the composition 👍❤️👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Desde Argentina, me encanta este trabajo, realmente MARAVILLOSO ❤, Gracias
Awesome!!
Thanks for the experiment!
This was so much fun to watch! From a distance, you could see the pinkish color, although it wasn't as vibrant as the others. That turquoise color was absolutely beautiful! Call me crazy, but when you finished tilting it out and set it back down, I saw the face of a lion with a HUGE mane. Thank you for sharing your amazing gift with us ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love Love Love it
Thank you for testing. ❤
You are so welcome!
You may have not have gotten the results you were hoping for but the piece turned out a very interesting abstract piece of art. Nicely done with the wrecking techniques !
Happy new year love that painting 😊
Love the design
Thank you! 😊
Very nice experiment, and I think it great.
Thank you very much!
🎉 love it
Love it, soooo cool!!!
Yay! Thank you!
I think it’s awesome ❤❤❤❤
This is so beautiful Molly and I think I can see it shimmer in pink in some areas. I could be mistaken though. Anyway this is really beautiful and the design you got from wrecking it and making that patterns is just 👌🏻♥️
Looks like a cloud pour..☺️
Great experiment ❤❤❤
Thank you 🤗
Really love the outside edges. I’m glad to see the experimentation and LOVE that you can make copper orange and that pink is a possibility! Thank you for this! B~}
Glad you like it!
So beautiful 😻😻😻😻😻
Thank you! 😊
Happy New Years to you. I love your technique. I'm going to try this 😊
Happy new year!
Nice ❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing 🎨🎨
Thanks for watching!
Still, this was a neat experiment!
The colors may not have shown up as much but it is still a very stunning piece.
Happy New Year Molly
Amazing composition!!! Would've even been fab just monochrome ❤
Oh thank you!
J'adore le design et j'ai hâte de voir le prochain pour les couleurs !! Et si vous ajoutiez pour le orange un peu d'orange iridescent de Pebeo 🤔😁👍❤️❤️❤️
So pretty! How do you mix your pearl paints? Are they with floetrol, a pouring medium, or just water? Thanks! I love to watch you create your beautiful paintings and your thought processes while doing them!
You can mix with any from my experience but I definitely had so great results with adding glue to my black made them shine so bright .
@kamilleskind4565 Thank you! 😊 I have some to use, but so undecided on how to mix them.
floetrol and gloss medium ratio 70/30 and a little water, thanks so much!
Hi! I haved demand to Molly and she answer this (for puddle)
She use 30% of liquitex gloss medium ($$$) with 70% floetrol. After she mix 1 paint for 3 PM, and one squirt of water.
The mix of paint with PM is thicker, I have many bubbles on my cup. Maybe prepare the colors more than 24h before use the paint, if you don't want the bubbles pop on the canevas during the paint dry. 😉
The verry good friend to Molly do many piece with the perlescent paint too.
Maybe you Know him? It's Mark J Ratcliffe art. He use only the Floetrol or owetrol because he don't have The US floetrol on his country. And he do the beautiful piece and the colors pop up verry well when it dry. On the description box he writte the mix of his paint. I think Mark use 1 part paint with 3 part floetrol US.
I hope i help you for the mix of your paint. 🙏🤍
Happy painting, byyye. 😄
Wow, so cool. Thanks for the experiment, looking forward to more ideas. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🕊️✌️😀😃😄😁🤗
You are so welcome!
I absolutely love the design! I hate the pink didn't show. I can't wait to see the one where you add normal acrylic paint to it.
The colors on my video show that you are using only black and white!! I'm going to look back for videos that will introduce pearl colors for me. Looking forward to this.
Thanks and I'd take the colors and paint areas.
very nice.
Thank you!!
I love this, and I would have loved it if none of the colors showed up and it was just a greyscale! The design is totally awesome on this one. Then with the colors that did show up, OMG! I do see where you would like to see more of the colors especially the pink which turned to silver. Still, this is gorgeous. I wonder if there was less of the black in it if you would have gotten more of the colors. I am wondering if you layered the red and white next to each other and the Red and yellow and then the blue and green and then the blue and violet and only use the black between the colors you don't want to mix together.
always room for more experimentation ! thanks
What I saw another artist said was when you’re doing the pearl essence that is best to do it on a dark background like black or really dark blue. He said then those colors pop.
I think yours is beautiful, but I think what you’re looking for you might try on a dark background
Hi kathy! Yes that is why i layered the colors in with black. I have been experimenting with these for over a year now and they are so fun to play with and lots to think about. One of my next experiments will be with painting the canvas black ahead of time!
This was a fun experiment!! It's cool to know you can mix the pearls! What about for the pink if you have more red next time than the white? Or what if you don't have a black layer in between? Do you think the pearls would mix too much with each other?
Ive done this!!!!!
I'm thinking way too much black. Layering black between each color essentially made it a four or five to one black to each color. Especially with the black being a straight black and not a metallic it just cut the metallic/pearl elements out of those color paints. If that white was the golden iridescent pearl that's another dominant one that along with the flat black .
I'm going to try one myself and see if I can figure it out. I've mixed pearl paints with a host of regular colors and gotten really cool results, but never used a black or white as a base. I'll post whatever I get good or bad here in a couple weeks. Just hope it's not a hot mess. Lol
Cool design ❤ thank you for this experiment I wonder if drizzles of black in between would work
could get too dark... not sure , thanks
WoW, this is So Really Excellent, thanks for sharing. 🙏 🙏🙏🙏👌👌👌👌🤌🤌🤌💞💞💞💞💫💫💫💯💯💯
Many many thanks
Instead of using a flat black, could you use another dark color such as a metallic gun metal grey?
Love you 💎💎💎💯💯🎀🍓♥️♥️♥️
It’s very pretty. How would it go if you used a very soft light grey instead of the black?
Hi. I was shouting at my tv “black”. 😂. Will you be showing this piece at the art fair you’re doing? It’s stunning 👌🫶
hopefully :)
I think pearl white is just an iridescent white. It doesn't change color, so it's not an actual pearl color like the pearl colors from Amsterdam, which look white when wet then change colors when dry (against a dark background). Maybe pearl white won't make pink when mixed with pearl red. I was having some trouble with my pearl green and I added just a dab of regular green acrylic paint (it was Creative Inspirations Emerald Green) to Amsterdam pearl green. The little dab completely took over. It wasn't pearlescent/iridescent at all. :(
The pearl white turns into a silver color, similar to how the yellow turns into a gold. I think i added too much to it to start :(
My next experiment is doing just that with adding some color in! These are so much fun to play around with!
Hi Molly, i know DecoArt Enchanted Paints aren’t the same as Pearl Paints, but i have experimented with layering them on top of one another in a puddle and swiping and they don’t create a real “enchanted” look…no pun intended ❤❤
Hey Molly, this is absolutely beautiful. You have definitely inspired me to try this technique. Just wondering if you use anything to seal or cover your paintings when done, like a coat of clear or anything on top, or do you just leave them? And if so does that last, will the canvas hold the paint forever or does it end up cracking over time?
Sorry that's a whole bunch of questions, im just really inspired and want to know as much as i can before i start. 😁
