Their school is fantastic. I've taken lessons for ~3 years and have gone from knowing a few words to feeling comfortable in most situations in Italy and being able to have conversations over dinner with Italians. Grazie mille Katie, Matteo, Blessy e tutti gli altri bravi insegnanti.
Grazie mille Jeff! that's great to hear. We're so glad to hear that you've enjoyed working with our teachers as well. There's a really lovely community, both in terms of the students and the teachers :)
I am a first year student, Jeff. I second what you say about how nice and encouraging everyone is at the school. Speaking only for myself, “life” intervened during my first term and I have fallen behind a little. So I intend to work my way through the rest of the year at my own pace and then see where I am. My aim is a modest one - simply to improve my ability to communicate better to native speakers when I am in Italy. Hopefully, that will happen.
@@Beazle00 I'm sure it will happen. When I don't have time to really study Italian I still try to listen to a RUclips video, or a podcast in Italian or something, just to keep the sound of Italian in my head, even if I only understand a small part of it. I'm convinced your brain learns things this way even if it doesn't feel like it.
I have been learning Italian for 2 weeks now, I got the basics like the 3 groups verb conjugations and all that since I know French so that really helped me. I learned a lot of words and phrases just by listening to you guys! It definitely helped that I listened everyday for at least 5 hours since I had nothing to do. I am shocked at how much I can already understand and speak. Going to Italy in 1 week. Can’t wait!
I listened to Italian for at least 30 minutes (often a lot more) every day for a year before trying to speak it. According to my tutor I started speaking at an A2 level right away. I’m sure that’s because of all the listening.
Love, love, love this school. Love their learning style. I can't get enough and they make me feel so good while I am learning. From beginner to expert, they have your back. Raphael nyc
Aw thank you Raphael, it's so nice to hear that. We think it's important to feel good while you're learning because you're doing something very difficult and very cool 🤩
Grazie...I needed this pep talk! These are all sounding familiar. And the other languages! Now that I'm trying to learn Italian, my German is back (a childhood language), and I can apparently also speak French and Spanish.🤣
😆 (Seriously, thank you for all the videos. I never get around to the Patreon exercises, but I feel happy knowing that I'm helping funding Joy of Languages/Easy Italian. Even today I learnt "poca a poca"... little phrases that just add to my confidence.)
I adore Katie and Matteo's program, Joy of Languages. I've taken the course for over a year and my Italian has really improved. The opportunity to have conversations every week with the teachers and students from around the world is wonderful and so much fun!
I've watched a lot of RUclips videos about learning Italian (including many of yours) but had to say this was one of the ones I most enjoyed. Perhaps because the tips are things I try to tell myself already, but it's always good to have experts confirm your notions 😜. Grazie mille per l'aiuto!! PS it's always a bit jarring to hear Katie speak English, with her English accent, since to my ears she sounds so natural in Italian 😃
Aw grazie! I'll take that as a compliment for my Italian hehe. Really pleased to hear that you found the video enforced some of the things you were already thinking - keep up the good work with your Italian, continua così 😊
@@joyoflanguages.italianprego, it was intended as a compliment! One of the beautiful things about the Italian people is that the more that knowing Italian becomes necessary (ie in parts of the country with few English speakers), the more appreciative the locals are that one is trying to learn their language. They make you feel comfortable stumbling through interactions. And I've ALWAYS been complimented on my Italian, even when I know I've made mistakes and am nowhere near fluent!
This video is so perfect and timely. After visiting Italy for the first time last summer, I felt moved and motivated to learn this beautiful language. Fast forward to now. I’ve been taking some lessons (on italki) and these points you make ring so true. Worrying about making mistakes and sounding foolish has held me back, but I’m working to get past that. Oh guys im going through so many things you mention here, and truly doesnt help me. I stopped trying a lot because I was making mistaked with pronounciation and wasnt being understood by the italians, so that took away my enthusiasm. And I wished to learn by the contact with other people, but didnt have the possibility to interact a lot with Italians.
