Snow hits the UK as temperatures plunge

- Snow has hit London for the first time this winter, as temperatures are set to fall to as low as -10C in some areas of the UK.
A yellow weather warning for snow and ice remains in place today for the eastern coast of the the UK, stretching from Scotland to East Anglia. Ice warnings also remain in place for Northern Ireland and south-west England.
Hilly areas including the North York Moors and parts of Scotland could see up to 5cm of snow today. It comes after snow swept across the South West, parts of Yorkshire, the North East and Scotland on Thursday.

From one living in Scotland, I cant believe a dusting of snow is newsworthy.
I thought it would be crazy in Scotland Many respects from down south
This is what's meant to happen each year it's called winter ❄️☃️❄️
London hasn’t had a white Christmas in over 20 years. White Christmases were more frequent in the 18th and 19th centuries, even more so before the change of calendar in 1752 which effectively brought Christmas Day back by 12 days. Climate change has also brought higher average temperatures over land and sea and this generally reduced the chances of a white Christmas.
Why do we need a UK Health Security Agency, to tell us the obvious?
Because it's their job to officially inform/warn the public?
Maybe more of frighten the public
Well, other than the obvious "It's snowing" they also need us to panic over anything to divert our attention away from things that actually matter.
I just want to point out that after that massive, once in a 100 year storm hit Ukraine, the next day the trains were running on time going from Kharkiv to Poland (some 4000km). How do they do it in a war ridden country and we can’t?!?

Maybe in uk there were leaves on line and a little bit of snow caught them out and probably different people to sort out the leaves or the snow, well done to Ukraine

When I was young we had snow drifts at our door, icicles hanging off out roof, frost flowers on our Windows inside, this was the Uk. We went sledging every year in the 60s and 70s

Utter nonsense. I was born, in a village and at home, in 1947. The midwife had to dig her way through snow that was feet thick. My mother said that the path from our village to the next was filled to a depth of over 6 feet. Icicles from roof gutters to ground (15 feet?) were commonplace. Now, everything grinds to a halt when the first snowflake hits the ground.

It rare for the UK to get snow these days. It’s hardly ever gets that cold and have snow due to the Gulf stream and the AMOC.

Even unusually cold weather is a sign of climate change in the UK. Global warming is starting to destabilise the Gulf Stream, which is what makes UK winters generally milder and wetter than other parts of northern Europe. The result is unusually cold weather (like a ‘Beast from the East’), bringing snow and freezing temperatures further south than usual

BS. I,ve been wearing T shirts outdoors for the majority of most UK ‘winters’ for the last decade at least.
It's surely more remarkable that this is the first cold snap this winter and we're in December. Still the announcement by this august NGO saved me from going outside to check if it really was cold. It looked cold due to the frost on the ground so I used my initiative and decided that it was actually cold. Seems I was right and I got to stay in the warm. What would we do without these post millenial busybodies trying to intrude into our very existence? Have we all stopped thinking for ourselves?

CO2 level in the atmosphere continues its inexorable climb but for at least the last 20 years temperatures have remained at or near the same level. The trend over that time is flat, while the trend of CO2 increases, but we are expected to believe that those two things are inextricably linked? If they are linked then can someone explain why temperature is not increasing at, or even near, the same rate as the CO2 level?

In Feb 2018 we had the beast from the east, our airfield near Tee Side, was snowed in for 3 months!
I am in NI UK, got a 10 minute light dusting in 2018 which lay for about 5 minutes, that was it though it was cold. @@rogerblackwood8815
