My husband and I love your stories. We purchased your book from Apple bookstore. We have fun with each other when we have our hip hop debates because he’s from Brooklyn and I am from the South Bronx. We are also Hip Hop fans all our lives. So we naturally have our battles of who represents. Whenever I want to win a hip hop argument I bring up KRS-1 battles. Then he reminds me that you guys grew up in Brooklyn so we both win. KRS is his all time favorite MC so we truly appreciate and enjoy your stories. Thank you.

I remember seeing an interview with Scott LaRock in a small newspaper when Criminal Minded was not yet huge but buzzing - they kept focusing on the James Brown loops because that was bold sampling and Scott said something to the effect of - by the time you get sued, you're already rich and famous.
It was a real "kick in the door and get famous by any means" quote!

Thanks for sharing the other side, like when the artist told you he was "starving". It's almost as if everyone makes money except for the creator of the art. This was very insightful!

From the 80's sampling was used , that is hip hop , with a cut , and keys
6 seconds or less is what is alloted now , I believe , but not like before when DJs sampled whole 20-30 second samples and looped them and cut them with the Alai/Roland/korg beat machines or later cubase or pro tool programs
But there a affect with hip hop and sampling that is missing from today's hip hop as well as scratches
