"Come Clean" was right at the end of my taping songs of the radio era. Man I loved that joint. One of the sickest beats and coldest flows ever. Primo & Jeru was.on some other level shit for sure.
We will never forget the sacrifice that the Prophet frum East New York, Jeru the Damaja made...with the exception of the BCC and a few others, nobody made such a heroic attempt to stop the (censored) frum taking over the rap industry and turning it into the death sex cult/cesspool of filth it is today...thanks for the edutainical videos Mr. Parker!
93 I lived in San Jose ca , I used to drive closer to the colleges and JCs to get better reception for the hiphop shows , there were so many good shows , it was a amazing time in my life
You describing the hunt for new songs during the 90s brought back so many memories. “Come clean” was played out here in Seattle on Sunday night rap attack. It blew my mind! I still have the first pressing of the vinyl and it never left rotation. The only negative thing I can say is the pressing was quite so I have to crank up the trim whenever it’s played.😢. Thanks again DJ Kenny Parker for the memories:)
This man talking on the screem is one of the reasons why hip hop exists today, this guy and krs one are history themselves, God bless you my hommy JP and thank you so much for Sharing these nice stories with us.
I think i bought Juru the Damaja Come Clean And Gangstar Mass Appeal on the same day In 1994'' And the 1st time i heard Come clean was on a mix show on the radio late at night back in 1994'' I didn't know the name of the song either But i remembered the hook was Throw ya guns in the air by Onyx And the Scratches on the hook sounded like a DJ Premier Scratch!😎
I have never been to new York, actually i have never been to the states in my whole Life, i am from the Dominican Repúblic but trust me i know more about BDP than many americans, i know about krs one, dj scott laroc, i admire this man on the screem my man kenny❤parker, i remember Watching that video “we in there” in 1992, i remember when BET played that video in 1992, krs one, kenny parker and i think Willie d was there, wow man !!! Kenny parker, here in the Dominican Republic we still follow BDP.
@@1474JOHN no he said two dudes in particular he knows as being part of a rap group. Sigh... Jeru released Come Clean in 1993 the same year Wu Tang released Enter The 36 Chambers. Mobb Deep didn't release their Infamous album until 1995.
The story about the deli isn't surprising, no matter who it was. After the Wu Tang Clan blew up ODB took his entire family in a limo to pick up his food stamps, and brought MTV cameras along to film it. As Kenny said, there are rappers who still have the street mentality even though they are having financial success. DJ. Premier was killing it in the early to mid '90's. The Gang Starr Daily Operation album was a masterpiece. Jeru the Damaja's joint was a banger. The Group Home album was a classic.
🎯Talk to these fools, DJ Kenny Parker. I instantly recognize that song as Jeru The Damaja's "Come Clean". Can not guess who the producer/knock out artist is. Great show as usual.
Ayo Kenny yall been killing for 23 albums I want that collection can you and Kris come to putting THAT together I need that joint I'm talking the whole thing the universe of Kris

Yo yo DJ Kenny Parker, what's good? You're knocking it out the park with these video stories. Keep up the good work! Btw, when you spoke of trying to find out the song "I rather bust a nut, than bust a cap" lol! Going to the record stores & dudes looking at you krazy for asking about that line of the song lol! Anyway, it reminded me of the classic Married With Children episode where AL Bundy was trying to find this song he liked but he didn't know all of the lyrics lol! So he would either hum the tune or just say the chorus..."Go With Hiiiiimmmmm" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. But yo that's actually a real song!?! Here's the link ruclips.net/video/2rHcvYa93sU/видео.html Arthur Alexander - "Anna" (Go With Him) (1962). The song is funny as hell! Especially the chorus! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for illustrating the music search journey and the diligence that it took, pre-internet, when music listeners had to, by any means necessary, interact directly with people in-person to FA and find out who an underground artist and what a song was, prior to being released to the masses. Staying up late to hear Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito on that college radio station is another part of the culture that I enjoy hearing documented in first person. Big ups to that person who hooked you up on the low.
I grew up in South Carolina but the college radio in my city would play tapes of stretch and Bob live on the radio. I feel really lucky to have heard those shows via the radio and then through the zoo York skate video called mixtape. The 90s was the shit. So glad I got to be a teenager in that era.

STRETCH AND BOB!!!!! Bro! They killed it with this Valentine's Day set in the early 90's playing old sorts of Old school Funk and Soul, it was the best. I miss Stretch and Bobito..

WOW, what a coincidence, yesterday I started watching DJ Premier's show on youtube called "So Wassup?" and in episode 1 he talks about the song in story #2.
Thought similar but replay and he actually says two were dudes he knew in a group, and that there were 15 people rolling amongst the two he knew, so could be others were also in the group but could've been just friends of the two, he left it ambiguous on that to a degree
I’m tripping on how the blood brother of The BlastMaster KRS-ONE had a problem finding out who made a particular rap song! 😆 Kris would have been the FIRST call I made to find out who made the song. He would have been like “That’s Jeru. I was up at D&D with Preme when he laid the track!!!” 😂 However…I’m on the FLOOR lmao picturing Kenny yelling out “I’d rather Bust a Nut…” to anybody that would listen. 🤣
Peace DJ Kenny Parker. That 1st story sounds like I was present for. I'm not sure if they went gold or not, but they hail from Brooklyn. And that was a regular activity.

Me too!
Story telling is on point! Love the stories.

I was thinking Puff, but the small leather jacket with matching gloves sound like Stevie J. Both worked on “Step Into A World (Remix)”
2nd story is Come Clean by Jeru

As soon as you said 15 guys I thought Wu-Tang clan
hahaha, same.
Kenny's always on his way to a club 😀😀😀
LOL!!! Facts! Back then I was a beast.
At 5:40 i already knew he was speaking of Jeru and the group stealing was the WU lmao!
No it wasn't the wu , he said out of the 15 only 2 were the rappers, so I'm almost sure it was mobb deep
@@1474JOHN no he said two dudes in particular he knows as being part of a rap group.

Thank you!
Absolutely Bootcamp at the store.
I was thinking Mobb Deep or Onyx.
both groups were on the map in 93'. The Wu skyrocketed past gold. I can't picture the Rza or Meth on a heist in the corner store.

Jeru the Damaja is the artist is the 2nd story. The song is Come Clean…
It's Jeru-the Damaja.
Classic premo production
Mid 90s 94-95-96 has to be Wu, Mobbdeep, or BootCamp those 3 rolled heavy
The producer was Diamond D.

It was Ced Gee
The Scientist knocking bums out the box!!! Lol
Could the 2 rappers in the first story be Fredo and Sticky from Onyx?
Nah, mobb deep
Onyx went platinum in 1993
It wasn't mobb Deep because they didn't release an album til 1995 it was the Wu
Story number 3 sounds like something Kid Capri would do.
Show Biz.

I figured story 1 was either Onyx or Mobb Deep.
As hard as the Shelley Mann part was, its the onyx loop that completes the package. Preemo ultimately paid a grip for that sample.
