  • It's time to fix this leaking or dripping kitchen faucet by replacing the moentrol cartridge inside this Moen tap.
This is the tap where the lever lifts up and down as well as turns.

Hey, thanks for posting this video! Had a leaky old Moen faucet, and would have called a plumber and probably been given the run around if I hadn't come across this video. Was able to take apart the whole system quite easily with just the tongue and groove pliers, and Home Depot was fantastic with replacing the old cartridge, no questions asked. Saved me some serious dough! :)

Thank you so much, Very helpful we need more people like you. Please I have a question: the faucet I have is very similar to the one shown in the video at the back of the faucet head the reference is M7800, the difference is the it has a spray hose, it's discontinued. do you know a cartridge reference that matches the M7800. Thanks again.

What could you use if don't have that tool?

Anyway you can pull it straight up and out. Use the screw hole to mount something to it to use to pull it straight up & out.

Upon reinstallation of the lever assembly, the lever was extremely loose. The screw is all the way screwed into the cartridge, but the handle itself has a lot more play than it should, any ideas?

thesmurf3008 Easiest thing to do in such a situation is to just go back to the beginning & do it over.
Is the nut holding the spout down tightened down fully? Can you move the spout up & down at all? The nut should prevent up & down play while still permitting the spout to turn freely.
Are you sure the mechanism for the handle engaged under the rim of the nut holding the spout down?

Buddy I had the same problem. When you put the lever back on, make sure that the rear of the lever goes under the lip of the inner mechanism. In this video, prior to disassembly it is clear that the lever was never installed correctly. Instead of installing the lever straight down on the cartridge, put it down rear side first so that it goes under the lip of the mechanism which holds the cartridge. It will then work beautifully - you should not have to press the whole lever down to shut the tap, you can push down on the end of the lever and the tap shuts off easily with no effort. Hope this helps.

AnEducator Truly appreciate the responses! I decided ultimately it was time to update the faucet anyway, tore the whole thing out and installed a new delta.

thesmurf3008 Sigh! I am cheap, so, I ALWAYS go with Moen because their warranty IS actually lifetime with little hassle & fast part delivery. I maintain a 50 year old building and can still get a suitable replacement cartridge for the bathtub faucets.
Still, all brands have some nice offerings and Delta has many newer models with a single all encompacing cartridge that are very comparable to Moen. Hopefully that is what you have because the old ball & rubbers gig SUCKED!

@@AnEducator Thank you. I thought I was going to need a whole new faucet. Now the handle is fine.

@handymanreality OK I only found the 1225. It didn't have a B at the end. Does that matter?

----this is not a 1255 replacement as the title suggests

George Baran That's because it is a 1225b cartridge. Where did you see it indicated as anything other?

Handyman Reality: FYI, Moen's lifetime warranty is not a lifetime warranty, only if you've purchased the item after 1996 and you are the person who purchased it. Your faucet used in this video is now redundant except for the cartridge. No other parts are available according to Moen, unless you know of some place to get these parts. Will never buy Moen again, nothing but a run around trying to contact them. Thanks, though, for your video.

No ones "lifetime warranty" is actually for the lifetime of a product. Warranties cover defects not wear from years of use or finishes that come into contact with a wide variety of solutions.
I do not have a problem exchanging a troublesome cartridge at any Home Depot in Canada. Moen has often shipped parts directly to my clients, so, it might be better to say they have one of the better fulfilment departments when it comes to warranty.
Sorry you had such a challenging time contacting Moen. Please do not EVER try American Standard you will face even more disappointments...lol

@@sleepinglioness5754 unfortunately I am not aware of any places specifically offering parts for discontinued faucets.
