I've been wanting a new gaming laptop for a while, would you recommend getting one this year? The GS66 appeals to me with all that performance but should I just wait for the AMD CPUs to be paired with RTX graphics above the 2060? I am a bit sceptical of all the benefits that the new AMD CPUs are bringing though, I've heard that the G14 has a "slow screen" whereas the GS66 has a "fast screen" where response times are low. As someone that does not care for graphics as much as response times and fps for gaming, this laptop appeals to me more.
The Asus Zephyrus G15 could have been a better alternative for gaming as it has a great 240Hz screen, but unfortunately Asus choked the fans with unnecessary plastic film so although it's bigger that the G14 it has worse thermals...

Hello Mr. Jarrod. Can you do a similar video like this with the Lenovo Legion 5 Ryzen 7 4800H 1660ti? Thank you very much and more power to your channel!
I have a 10th gen CPU, and the bios it says XTU inferfaced enabled. However in XTU it only allows an increase in voltage. I can also undervolt in the bios but only in increments of 1. I don't really fancy jumping -1 volt.
Sheesh I own a GE76 Raider and was just trying this secret code on my new Asus ROG Z590E motherboard. No wonder it didnt work. I thought it was my new wifi keyboard locking me out. Getting old sux.
What is the best undervolt you recommend for the i7-1050H? Also, I have seen many people complain that their BIOS settings didn't save once they clicked on "save BIOS'" or something, and also read on a page about undervolting on MSi laptops that clicking "save BIOS" doesn't actually save it but instead you have to do something else, which unfortunately the writer didn't mention. Would really appreciate if you replied to let me know how to save the changes in the BIOS and what the best undervolt for 10th gen i7 is.
I think until Intel can finally get on 7nm or go lower, you won’t see Intel laptops get much cooler than what is achievable right now with current cooling solutions, especially on thin-and-light gaming laptops.
Would QuickCPU be a better option for undervolting in this laptop? I feel that it might be safer as well. It will also allow you to tweak your core multiplier easily and if it fails just reboot your machine to get back to stock settings.
Hi Jarrod, great video as always. Just had one small question. This advanced bios option, is it available in all the msi laptop or just some specific models of msi? Would greatly appreciate your response on this. 🙂
Hi Jarrod, I've watched the video many times but couldn't figure out how you got the downvolt. Can you explain it to me in a few words? Thanks in advance.
Damn man I wish I could of undervolted it too. I'm not using MSI laptop but hp but I dontt think it allows for the uv. the offset value does not change
Hey Jarrod, I need a laptop for school and gaming. The battery life can’t be too short, but I don’t need 10+ hours either. I’m looking for a price between $1000 - $1500. I was thinking of buying the Asus G15 or A15. I don’t want to give people virgin vibes with the laptop so it can’t be looking flashy. I don’t need it right now I can wait a month or two if needed. What do you think is a suitable laptop for me?
That price point has traditionally been my Y540/Helios 300 range, so based on what you said, Y540. Haven't tested G15 or A15 so can't make a recommendation there.
Hey Jarrod, great vid. But does dragon center keep all the user options when you change the bios settings? Can you still change performance modes / set a custom fan curve? I lost half my options after I opened up the overclock and xtu menu 😅
Jarrod'sTech well, not in terms of power efficiency or being something that I actually want to buy, but in your g14 video the 4900hs topped out at 4036 for its cinebench score while this hit 4105, and I assumed the g14 was hitting power limit.
I just got the GS66 with the 10750. I Tried a -.1 under-volt and I actually lost points in Cinebench. 2803 stock and 2763 with the under-volt... am i doing something wrong? EDIT: View my update reply.... in summary, under-volting helped.
UPDATE: So after playing around a bit I do think that I got some improvements. The largest improvement was actually repasting the CPU and GPU with Thermal Grizzly's paste. that made me get 2850 consistently and 2870 max. I only used cinebench r20 and simply did one test aft another only allowing 20 seconds to cool in between. I have a current stable under-volt of -.175. This has allowed me to achieve a max Cinebench score of 2933, yet the average is around 2900. However, now that I have tweaked it to see what I could get I am now simply going to lower the max voltage and run Linux (Pop_OS) as my daily driver anyway. DEATH to windows! LOL
Hey Jarrod, I know you read your comments often and I would love if you could help me with some advice. I have the choice of buying either an MSI GS66 RTX 2060 144Hz or Razer Blade 15 RTX 2060 144 hz, both for the same price. Which one would you recommend getting? The MSI is from an official website (BestBuy) and the Razer is from someone selling in my local area (apparently brand new, unopened). A swift reply would be absolutely awesome.
For the people having trouble not applying the settings in the bios before you can save you need to press again the combination and then you can save. Even after Xtu didn’t work but I managed to get it work with throttle stop for me I have achieved around -110 with no errors

Did you get it bro?
So we can undervolt, yay! But the GS66 and 10th Gen still run hot AF regardless, shame...
I think it does pretty well all things considered once putting in some sensible changes.
I think until Intel can finally get on 7nm or go lower, you won’t see Intel laptops get much cooler than what is achievable right now with current cooling solutions, especially on thin-and-light gaming laptops.
I dont know wtf ur talking about but my gs66 started having charging issues after 2 years
Will you be reviewing the GE66 when/if MSI sends you one?
Yes, just not expected for another month or so.
Thanks! Good to know.
When you get the GE66, please demo turning OFF the horrid light bar. ;-)
Would QuickCPU be a better option for undervolting in this laptop? I feel that it might be safer as well. It will also allow you to tweak your core multiplier easily and if it fails just reboot your machine to get back to stock settings.
WHAT IS THAT?
Please make similar video on predator i7 11th gen
Still the best screen i own.
Hi Jarrod, great video as always. Just had one small question. This advanced bios option, is it available in all the msi laptop or just some specific models of msi? Would greatly appreciate your response on this. 🙂
I believe it works with almost all msi laptops
Not every OEM allow you to enter advance BIOS setup easily, MSI is one of the more lenient OEM out there.
Lenovo and ASUS however.......
Yeah at least they let us have the options, just need to know the shortcut.
Can you also kindly guide the same process for Predator Helios 300?
Hi Jarrod, I've watched the video many times but couldn't figure out how you got the downvolt. Can you explain it to me in a few words? Thanks in advance.
When I run Intel XTU, it shows both "core voltage mode" and "Core voltage offset" options disabled. Am I missing something here?
Download a legacy version(older version). Worked for me
easier to recover from? all you need to do is disconnect your cmos battery or short it out to revert bios settings
Guillaume Briand its kinda sold out everywhere I can buy it so I have to wait anyway. Plus it has some thermal issues so idk.
@@GuillaumeB7 Don't take G15 lol, even after repasting it reached 104 degrees celcius while gaming
Rafael Rivero any other recommendations?
That price point has traditionally been my Y540/Helios 300 range, so based on what you said, Y540. Haven't tested G15 or A15 so can't make a recommendation there.
First and last gaming laptop. They're the literal definition of Planned Obsolence.
I'm glad to see that someone else figured that out. Overpriced junk, within 2 years, worthless.
you should make a video showing how to undervolt
There's really no need when I can just link to Bob of all trades.
Hey Jarrod, great vid. But does dragon center keep all the user options when you change the bios settings? Can you still change performance modes / set a custom fan curve? I lost half my options after I opened up the overclock and xtu menu 😅
Thanks, I didn't actually check that yet.
I can't find the overclocking option in the advanced menu 😢, I have a msi alpha 15 laptop with ryzen 7 5800h rx6600
This puts it on par with or better than the 4900hs and you could probably go further with the undervolt
Does it?
Jarrod'sTech well, not in terms of power efficiency or being something that I actually want to buy, but in your g14 video the 4900hs topped out at 4036 for its cinebench score while this hit 4105, and I assumed the g14 was hitting power limit.
Need guide on undervolting 11th gen intel
NIce! =] Now they need to release a bios to unlock 90w GPU
Yes please!
I just got the GS66 with the 10750. I Tried a -.1 under-volt and I actually lost points in Cinebench. 2803 stock and 2763 with the under-volt... am i doing something wrong? EDIT: View my update reply.... in summary, under-volting helped.
oof?
LOL
How the heck do you disable the onboard LAN on this laptop, the bios is the most user unfriendly one ever
Jarrod, is there anyway to unlock undervolting on the Legion 7i as well? It seems after a recent bios update I can no longer undervolt my i7 10750h :(
Kalcifier me too but with the hp omen
did you try resetting bios settings to defaults?
TabalugaDragon how
@@jakesteer for all manufacturers bios interfaces are different so you'll have to look for it yourself.
For the people having trouble not applying the settings in the bios before you can save you need to press again the combination and then you can save. Even after Xtu didn’t work but I managed to get it work with throttle stop for me I have achieved around -110 with no errors
Plz do a review of Razer Blade 15 advance 2020
Is this thing a fingerprint magnet?
Yes
im so dissapointed with the purchase of the gs66 stealth. a beast of a laptop but it has so many malfunctions. my ''e'' key rgb died yesterday and today my whole keyboard rgb died
Is this safe to use?
I love Your vídeos, you are the best.
Can you pelase make a review of this gs66 with editing programs like Da Vinci resolve, illustrator.
Thank you so much
I'll have some Premiere results in the upcoming review, might start doing resolve testing but have no experience with it so far.
@@JarrodsTech If there's any chance of doing some 3D software tests in that video too it would be appreciated. I use Revit but I don't think there is any tool to benchmark Revit other than "spinning my model of an entire city around was easy breezy"
Dude, how to unlocking bios in Stealth 15m?
Cries in Dell G3.
