    Thanks for this video! I just ordered a replacement GPU fan for my GS66 after having used it for over 5700 hours gaming + probably another 3k hours doing other stuff. Aside from the keyboard W-E-S keys failing after about 15 months it has been a pretty reliable machine. Instead of replacing the keyboard I bought a $30 wireless KB to use.

    Awww thanks man for teardown, needed this one so badly. Hopefully, the problem is only the power jack/port and not something seriously wrong with my laptop

    Thank you for making this detailed video! My GS66 keyboard buttons started failing as soon as warranty expired, and now I need to go through this procedure because MSI is charging too much to fix it, relative to the cost of the laptop. Where can I get the full keyboard with the back cover? I'm only finding the top plastic layer.
    Never going to make a mistake of purchasing MSI again.

      I have the same problem with keyboard, so some of my buttons doesn't work. I heard that is is caused by a bad design, so the keyboard cable is benched a lot and/or it scratches on the top with bolts. As a solution people offer to use just a bit of a usual tape to stop this scratching. Btw, how you deal with your problem?

      @@ervingolvih8703I bought a replacement on ebay and followed this guide ... however, when you remove the metal panel, you have to nip the plastic attachments ... and there is no way to redo that, so my new keyboard has a different feel in the case, but it works ... and I fixed for $50 and 3huors work

      @@icebox829 Didn't have the right tools. For cutting the rivets off I used a snap blade and I couldn't lie it flat against the surface. Had to be extra careful not to scratch the metal plate (you don't want metal dust/shards contacting the motherboard). For gluing the rivets back on I used a UV glue which worked really well. However the UV flashlight I used to cure it was very weak. It took up to 5 minutes per rivet to cure. And there are a lot of these rivets. Luckily I was able to place the flashlight right on top of the rivet instead of holding it myself. If you're going to do that be careful not to glue the flashlight to the rivet 😅. Also after turning the laptop on I noticed that the chinese keyboard I bought as a replacement had broken light on 3 keys. So yeah make sure the replacement you buy is working before gluing the rivets back on. The keyboard still works by the way. Has been used daily for many hours every since I've replaced it. EDIT: I almost forgot that while you're curing the glue you have to put pressure on the plate or else the keyboard is going to be loose. I don't remember how I did that.

    Any solutions please?

    I have a GE66 model, and it's been quite a while, since my keyboard started to be buggy. Keys like "BACKSPACE, R, F, F1, C, 0, 9" just don't work properly, only in combination with others. I know it's hardware issue, because nothing helped for me on software lvl. I've also read enough that keyboards on these models and it's ribbon cabels garbage. In your opinion should i replace the whole keyboard, or i can do something with cable. Some says tape on it helps with this, but haven't tried it yet. Is there're any ways to fix it?

    For upgrading my ram should I unplug the battery? And also how often should I check on my thermal paste? Small edit should I upgrade anything else if I upgrade the ram or is everything able to run with 32GB ram?

    • @jboblk
      @jboblk 2 года назад

      A little bit of a late reply, but 32 gb of ram is plenty for all games. In fact, Ive never seen a game max out 16gb of ram, though this could change. It would be best to remove all power before connecting/disconnecting anything. It should be fine as long as the laptop is powered off though.

    I've gotten a keyboard replacement for one of these laptops, but after replacing the keyboard, the screen appears to turn itself off after a matter of minutes. This timeframe is a bit longer when the laptop starts without the back cover, but still turns itself off. There doesn't seem to be any unintended points of contact with any wires of the wires on the motherboard that could cause this issue. Any suggestions for what to look at? Could the keyboard replacement be incompatible with the other parts of the laptop?
