it would be awesome to see a premium khett board with a built in fog machine
Yeah
nahh too expensive, just build your own fog machine
im here thanks to the trailer that appeared on my recommendations LOL
The sphinx is never captured. It is the permanent laser source throughout the game.
Hmm...who knew they had lasers in ancient Egypt...oh...yeah...the Ananaki....my bad...lol.
You're joking I assume? Annunaki having lasers and various high tech technology is just what AncientAliens/AncientAstronaut theorists claim. There is zero proof of laser or anything like that. Closest ancient people have come to that is using sun or moon light reflecting of water surfaces or metallic surfaces (before the mirrors were invented) to point at various points if Interest inside of ceremonial structures.
If you didnt say 'you're joking i asume' i would've wooshed you so hard

...um... youtube isn't showing me the comment thread. Something happen?...
I originally saw this on vat19, but I watched this video and you explained the game very well! Im thinking about buying it to give as a gift for some friends of mine
Very cool. Personally I'd only be able to play a computer/mobile version since I am at an age when there aren't many friends who'd want to play chess style games. But what could make this game visually cooler is if there was a dry ice generator nearby so when you blow the "smoke" at the board you'd be seeing a continuous laser beam even if it is for a short time. I suppose it can be done some other ways. But of course it doesn't affect the game itself.
You didn't mention what your impression was about the game's complexity or difficulty. That would be interesting to know.
How did you find an online version? I've been looking for one but nothing comes up
+Felix the Sloth there is one on Steam. Steam is a service that sells games digitally. Another place is App Store that is available for the users of the iPhone.
There's a site called boardgamearena.com which I don't believe has Khet, but if enough people request a game, the publisher is usually made aware so they can explore the idea of hosting it there.
StopFear you could probably use a vape ;)
"I like to think that your luck extends beyond this particular game." That was funny!
Khet 2.0 in title: Would be handy.
It’s midnight, why am I watching this?
Is there a championship and are there forced move continuations, like "chess" I suppose.
+Peter Smythe I haven't heard of any high level tournaments or analyses of the game ... but searching on the internet I find that some people are taking the game very seriously.
+AncientChess Wow thanks for replying. It looks interesting.
If I had to play for at least the first few times I would not know what on Earth I am doing (probably a bit similar to many recorded chess games from over 2 centuries ago; which many are quite amusing and spectacular) and having just seen this video a few minutes ago am in no position to make any judgement (though it does look cool and strategically complicated).
(Personally I think if different variants of "chess" type games gained more popularity [and financial interest] in comparison to chess that would be very cool. Chess almost gets a bit monotonous despite other games perhaps lacking the significant interest and organization that chess seems to have. Many of the games also seem to have a strong cultural heritage effecting their degree and area of popularity.)
We are going to duel with ancient Egyptian laser beams.
Great idea isn't it? You gotta love that secret ancient Egyptian technology
Yugioh abridged reference.
Funny stuff
Thanks for the good comment! It's a pleasure to share these great games.
I haven't seen the older version of Khet, but would be interested if any viewers know what's new about this one. Thanks,
Rick
Could you please do a review of the Beamsplitter Expansion?
That last message was intended to answer that question: No, you can't see the laser beams in the air (unless you're in a very smoky environment). Normally, what you see will be very much like what's shown in the video -- except for one thing: In the video, the light appears 'white' but in reality, the light looks like a bright red.
I played this with my nephew and we found it better to put the board inside a wide cardboard half-box with "walls," so that when the laser is "missing"/firing off in a random direction, you can clearly see that right away. Also, it prevents anyone from walking past your table from getting an annoying/dangerous laser beam in the eye.
Yeah, definitely a good idea. When I show kids how to play this, we're always wanting to see where the beam DOES go ... back on your shirt, across the room on someone's cup ... put out your hand and you can see where it hits. Makes a lot of sense to have the 'walls' set up to help understand where the beam is going.
Yes, the scarab, like all other pieces, can be rotated 45 degrees (not 180), and that rotation constitutes one turn (or, one move). Perhaps the confusion arises from rule number 7, which explains that a scarab can trade places with a piece which is next to it. The point there is that, when it changes places, it may not rotate at the same time. Rotating would have to be done a separate turn. OK?
Yes, the lasers run on a kind of watch battery. The instructions show how to replace it when needed ... but the one that comes with the set lasts quite a while. It's only used for short bursts throughout the game.
Dry ice? Put a chunk of it in hot water, and see the beams! Also, ads that "mysterious atmosphere."
People: Play Chess
Me: Play Khet
Also Me: This Is The Future Old Man
Me: Me play too!
@AncientChess For one thing, it has walls so you can see the laser on the walls. and the laser was built into the wall, so it couldn't turn
Actually seeing the laser beams as they streak through the air is a nice effect -- but of course in normal circumstances, you only see the light where it hits an object ... unless you are playing in a very smoky room ... which is not recommended, for health reasons :)
It's been years since I played Laser Chess since I don't own a computer with a 3.5" disk drive, but I remember that the addition of the laser gun piece, the 90-degree mirror pawns, and the special two-way splitter pawn (which could split either side's laser beam and redirect it on 90-degree angles) made the game somewhat unbalanced. I don't remember if re-orienting a piece to protect or redirect a beam took up a turn, but I'm pretty sure firing the laser did. I also think there were extra rows
isn't there an expansion pack for this game?
+Daniel Conell Yes there is! I haven't been dealing in this game, but it's very good. I'm sure you'll find the set and additions on Amazon and other major venues...
If I understand this question correctly, it is asking what happens if your laser beam hits the opponent's sphinx, which is the laser shooter. Nothing happens in that case; the sphinx is considered invulnerable.
Omg khet was do popular they made a whole country out of it
I was following this to make the initial setup but I realized the mirror next to the left silver anubis is turned wrong. I knew about this game around the time you uploaded this but only played it now after all these years. Yeah like you said it's a really cool take on the abstrat strategy game that plays differently from chess and go. Definitely a fun one.
Good observation! Sorry for my mirror mixup. Yeah, really a fun game. Great for kids ... you just have to make sure they don't pick up the lasers and start shooting them in each other's eyes.
@@rickknowlton9990 hm yeah
I got this for my birthday yesterday, and I love playing it! Defineately recommended for all age groups!
the key is just the right ammount
too much and it will make it hard to see things, but not enough and it will not see the beams that much
Just a thin layer of fog around, try playing in a enclosed room (maybe with a window open so not too much fog dont go in)
looks complex
but imagine having a fog machine near this, you would be able to see the beams, making it really awesome
but if you totaly protect your pharol with mirrors/anubis (if its called like that) what happens. Because in that way the other team cant win. I was playing, and this happened; Idk what to do. (srry spelling I am writing fast)
You can shoot down the Anubis pieces
For special effects, use a fog machine if you ever own one. Lol
@AncientChess Also, there were two more of the things by the pharoahs, and they usually stacked two on each side
I love it. I'm going to have to save up for this. Wow, imagine it in 3-D... {my head asplode}
@austitanium There is also a group called 'densa' for those who didn't get the irony of the word ...or for those who actually did of course :D
@AncientChess i guess the only things different are that the figures look a bit different, that you don't have that many figures to block the laser, that you can't stack some figures like you could on the first game so that you had to hit it two times in order to completely remove it from the playfield and that the lasers can be moved in two different directions. in the original khat game the lasers are mounted in the playfield.
so khat 2.0 lookes better but khat 1.0 is more fun to play i guess.
THAT GAME LOOKS EPIC!
Yes, it's very cool. I had to stop carrying it because I couldn't get a good supplier, but you can find this game easily on Amazon or eBay.
AncientChess ok thank you
It's probably similar to learning chess, a little more involved than checkers. The main thing to get used to is the laser beams, which is a totally new concept in board games. On the other hand, the pieces all have the same sort of move (more similar to checkers in that regard), so it doesn't have the complexity of different moves for different pieces (though the scarab and anubis has special 'powers'). What do you think when you watch the video?
I'm not sure I understand this question. Do you mean you expect to see the laser beam shooting through the air? It's not that strong a laser. You only see the spot that the light hits. See comments below -- everyone thinks it would be cool if you could see the beam!
It sells for 29.75 at Rainbow Resource Center (Google it for the web address) and they offer free shipping on orders of more than $50! They also have a ton of other games, toys, and educational supplies - great company!
Can the 2 sided mirror change square with the king, laser or a 2 sided mirror?
Good question. The scarab (2-siede mirror) can only trade places with the pyramid (1-sided mirror) or Anubis (dog head). Complete rules can be found here www.fgbradleys.com/rules/rules3/Khet2theLaserGameRules.pdf
@AncientChess I would be very interested in seeing the original version! :)
I've played the first khet, am considering buying this one even though there isn't to much difference.
Have you by any chance acquired the eye of horus expansion pieces?
Is it easy to learn >? like checkers ? or
I was just watching a video of a Pink Floyd concert. Now, THAT was a serious laser show! It would be nice if we could capture some of that laser power in our little game here -- no trouble at all seeing the laser cut through the air. For now ... just baby lasers. Great game anyway!
Can u pl send the descriptive rules LIST for this game!!
hr is a gd link 4 tht

This reminds me of an old computer game called Laser Chess.
Hello I want to know about the website of playing this game online? Tell me , please.
can u see the laser beam in the air ? please reply
You forgot the Eye of Horus expansion piece.
is this game have web game?
Very interesting! I see that Wikipedia has a page on Laser Chess and the similarities are unmistakable. Wikipedia's page on Khet mentions "slight similarity" to Laser Chess, but I think they are under-stating the case. It would appear that the inventor of Khet basically took Laser Chess and audaciously made it into a real game with real lasers, albeit with significant changes in rules of play. Really the same 'gimmick' pulled out of the computer screen and put onto a real playing board.
I just ordered mine! Can't wait to play
Yes, a fog machine! That's the ticket. I tried burning a little incense around the board, but that didn't exactly do it.
lol the mirrors line up and attack the other sphinx
awesome!! I wonder if amazon has a set
Thanks Teddy, My face actually looks kind of funny without it. My kids barely recognize me.
OK -- You'll see a note it that section of the video explaining the correct rule. Thanks!
I suppose the idea back then was that the pieces all have essentially the same move. But I think 'the simplicity of checkers' is deceiving, since there are several new rules and concepts that the new player has to get used to. By the way, serious checkers (aka draughts) will take exception to the 'simple' label. Although the basic rules are simple, good play is very sophisticated. Anyway, I've found that kids can pick this game up pretty quickly and get right into the fun of it.
This game looks cool!
He had me at sturdy box.
Thanks for the link to the 26 pound gummi bear. Now, let's get back to important matters like Laser beam chess variants .... :)
Nice interesting idea for a game. Very innovative. Thanks for sharing ;)
thanks i love this game and you introduced me to this brilliant game
it seems to be quite intertaining
My true calling was as a philosophical standup comedian ... but for now I'm selling chess sets. I try to make a good go of it.
Allright thanks man!
This game is savage in age
@AncientChess you probably would want khet 2.0 search it
It's a great game! I bring it to the chess club I teach at an elementary school and the kids always want to play it -- but I make them wait till the last half hour of class, so they at least get some chess in. Thanks for the comment --
... I mean, ...can be rotated 90 degrees... (if anyone starts rotating their pieces 45 degrees, we're definitely going to have a problem!). Oh, geometry!
That is SO COOL! I wish I'd had a fog machine when I made the video.
are you allowed to rotate the djed/scarab? it says in the instructions that you can't rotate it but on the box it says that you can rotate it... WTF?
I just played this for the first time and it was really easy to learn!
Great! I'm glad to hear this game is still being discovered. A very clever idea, leading to new concepts that don't exist in other 'chess' forms
How to buy it ?where to buy it?
Thanks for the correction! I had that wrong. I'll try to get a note into the video
Oh yes -- a great game with great expansion possibilities!
Is it possible to capture the other players sphinx
hI. Do you know how I buy it and how expensive it is??
Interesting opinions. Exactly what is and isn't a chess variant is always a good point of discussion. This one has the basic hunt for the enemy king as a theme. Great game. The best? Maybe...
I got it..hehe...The kid in me wished it was exactly like the picture showed..Thanks
P/S: I bought the game and i like it..Its definitely unique...Just wished theres a way for the laser to somehow be a little visible...
Is a rotate considered a move?and if so,how many moves do we get?
Yes. 1 action per turn.
Can you imagine the beam to think about what it will hit?
Nicolino Will ofcourse
You seem like a nice guy so ill like and sub :D
in italian mensa means cafiteria
i orderd it too! can't wait!!!!
The cristals you Can move them one square and one square rite?
Yes. Every piece has the basic move of one square in any direction (like a king in chess). The scarabs (beetles) have the special ability to exchange places with pieces next to them (not another scarab)... and the sphinxes do not move on the board; however the sphinxes do have the move of turning 90 degrees
When you were saying that those guys are smarties, I think you don't realize that you are talking about yourself.
You flatter me sir! I'll take it. It's great having your comments coming in on my many videos. Enjoy!
AWorldofChess.com
What happens if you hit your opponent's piece that shoots beams with your beam? Do they lose their ability to shoot beams?
No, the Sphinxes (the ones that shoot the laser) are invincible, even if hit.
Great vid, by the way!
where the hell is the beam?
Love that game!
ya umm i saw lazer beams in the commercial
If you turn of the light can you see the laser?
+Matthijs Jennen Play with some dry ice fog or get a fog machine the really see the laser. Or just have friends that vape constantly.
Pyramid(red):hehe I will betray my king
Pyramid(silver):yes yes I will help
Pyramid(silver):ok turn because your facing at my king so if you turn right you will kill your king 👑
Pyramid(red)Nolololololololol I was joking (doesn't turn and kills silver king)
Such deviousness in ancient Egypt! (sounds a little like the past few years)...
What's the point of turning the pharo? Are some sides of it protected?
Good question. I don't see any point in turning the pharaoh. Same result whichever side he gets hit on.
nope. for some reason I got here from Oskarpuzzles's "Dumbbell Cube - Mechanism".
