Raducanu is still a developing young player. She has the tools to have good success; she just has to refine those tools & develop a sustained standard of performance. She’ll peak over next couple years if she stays healthy, & we’ll find out what she’s able to accomplish

For me the hate around Emma is more to do with the British Media. She was so over hyped that it just created a backlash. No one could possibly live up to the expectations that were set. It’s not just Emma that has faced this but it has become ever more pervasive due to the internet induced financial model that rewards hyperbole and extreme views to generate the most views.

I'm a big Emma Raducanu fan and I find the hate towards her comes from envy. However, if it's misogyny, well it comes from women as well as men, so I'm not sure if it's misogny or more likely just envy at a girl that is doing well for herself. Since winning the US Open, she's been plagued with problems. SImple thinkers seem to think that if she's not winning tournaments she shouldn't be out there endorsing things. They're very simple people. I believe she is working very very hard on her tennis, and has not been able to live up to "some" people's expectations due to the many setbacks she's had (Covid, various injuries, Tonsilitis), but she has demonstrated that she can win matches when feeling fit. Her game is very nice to watch. She still has a lot to learn on tour and that is perfectly normal. Her rise to fame was very unusual and so quick that it is normal that she has struggled somewhat. I believe she is a top 20 player - she has beaten good top 20 players even while struggling in the last year to be fit. She might never win a slam again, or not even an important tournament, but noone will take away from her her New York Fairytale, or the wealth that she will accumulate. I wish her all the best because she is clearly a very nice person. Come on Emma!

A statistic states that most female tennis players peak at the age of 24-26 and takes them 4 years to adapt and gain the stamina for the tennis tour. Emma is 20. And has only been on the tour 2 years. It took Serena and Venus Williams 4 years to adapt to the tour before they started winning anything. Coco Gauff has been on the tour for 4 years ago at the age of 15. it’s only now that’s she started to have any success and break into the top 10 singles. Ofc she is incredibly young and credit to her for breaking in at such a young age it’s incredible to watch her develop but it takes years to win on tour the world No1 only has done it once at Wimbledon. She also managed to get to the Indian wells round of 16 this year and in her breakthrough wild card Wimbledon debut managed to get to the round of 16. It is impossible for that to be a fluke impossible. Now ofc you’ve got your Naomi Ōsaka but she’s peaked or looks like she’s peaked very early into her career. Realistically give her time. Justin Rose arguably the best golfer of all time had a similar story to Emma. He finished fourth in his first professional competition he was an amateur, a wild card and a qualifier. Was offered a professional contract the next day. In his first four years he won nothing making very few cuts.
Now I’m not saying Emma is perfect definitely not she has made mistakes some incredibly foolish ones like getting rid of 8 coaches specifically Andrew her US open coach. And she will make more. She definitely needs to distance herself from her parents. However she’s young and it’s better she make mistakes now early in her career. Where she can learn from them so she can go on to have a long and successful career. ✌🏽

Happy to see that so far, she hasn’t allowed the negative comments to overwhelm her. This is her first real year of trying to play as a healthy player. Like players have to live up to anyone else's standards, the only standard she has to abide by is her own and she's doing just fine. People need to remember her career is in reverse. You are supposed to build up to winning a GS, not win it as a qualifier and not even play a WTA match at that stage. She's an incredible talent but she won't be able to reach the heights unless she's given time and space.

@@nelly4351 Well said. I can only suspect that the people who criticise here know very little about tennis and don't understand her still relatively inexperienced. The criticism she receives seems totally disproportionate and the people who criticise her (almost always men on social media I notice) perhaps don't realise that they are part of the problem and how incredibly destructive that can be to a young person. I can't imagine what it must be like for her to see and hear criticism from hundreds of uninformed total strangers every day - I'm not sure I would have been able to handle it as well as she has when I was her age! Some people complain that she is 'overrated', but as you so rightly say, why should she have to live up to other people's standards. Let's give her the space and time that she needs to let her find her place in the sport.

@@nelly4351 Exactly. People forget that after winning the US Open, and in spite of all her injuries and problems, she still raised her ranking from 23(?) to 10 at one point. The irony is that if she hadn't done something unheard of by winning the Open, but had just done enough there to get into the top 100 - if she'd met Barty instead of Rogers, maybe - everybody would be thinking that she was now doing really well!

@@sarahcarrette2193 I'm a bloke and can see that there are people trying to destroy her, why can't we celebrate talents in this country? There are certain "journalists" who are always having a pop at her, Yasmin Syed from the Express is one in particular who will mention the fashion mags, she doubts her injuries, criticises her pulling out of BJK but playing following week, citing her sponsors, yet Swiatek has done the exact same. I see players constantly changing coaches but no criticism but for Emma it's different, there's a lot of double standards and its depressing. She is basically a novice at this level yet she's expected to win every week. It took Federer 4 years on tour to break the top 10 at age 20 yet we wouldn't say he's average, same with Serena, Novak, Murray, these are some of the best of all time and it took them time to find their feet, so why can't Raducanu?
