Just serve the ball into the loudest area of the crowd. Accidentally of course....
And throw some racquets too.
@MUFC Man City piss all over you now. Haha I'm happy for them because for decades they had to put up with you bastards slagging the fuck out of them. Now it's their turn. Hahaha!!!
It appears the referee lost control of this one, you just have to say no more tennis until the crowd shut up.
I agree referee must told the crowd to be quiet.
@@user-zf4jv1nf5i , I suppose the referee didn't want Martina to win.
I lost respect for Steffi Graff after she didn't help Hingis
Even I as someone who has French roots hate the French open, they are the worst fans in tennis.

Very impressed with Serena's control of the words she chooses during the interview. While she's crying no less. So sad. : (
I've been to a fair few countries and I have to say that from my experience, the french people I encountered there were the most rude and unhelpful. I will never forgive the man who took my bread sticks off me on the metro!!

Kevin Blaizet Yep, if an Aussie crowd acted like this, I would be embarrassed too. Everyone knows that in tennis the crowd is to be queit leading up to a serve and during play.
Sometimes the U.S. crowd acts like this at the Open too. Ooops

Hingis made homophobic statement after french player Amélie Mauresmo came out few months before this match. This explain the rudness of the crowd. I'm not embarassed, Hingis deserves this rudness.
Should have cleared the stadium and let them play without the crowd!!!!!!!
Interesting point. It happens in footy, but imagine organizer kicking out of stadium all those rich asses haha that's sci-fi

2:45 was just hard to watch. I've never seen such shameful behaviour from a crowd as to applause the errors of a player
Look the French can definitely be rude but in the case of Hingis she 100% deserved it. I was watching that match live and she was an utter BRAT the entire match.
The only reason a crowd should ever be this rude is if Nick Kyrgios is playing
+TheOpinionatedPerson I completely agree with you! LOL
+TheOpinionatedPerson LOL true.
If Bernard Tomic and Nick Kyrgios ever pair up as an Aussie doubles team (doubtful after their current spat), every crowd member should be given a free megaphone.
at least kyrgios has some personality unlike most of these boring players
Why does tennis need to control the crowd in such a way. Do they want people to keep coming in large numbers. What sport does that it's ridiculous. every other sport has to deal with loud booing crowds and there is no one telling them to shut up, so why is it they can't handle it. If it bugs these weak players so much then go back to playing at a club where you have a handful of people watching then you can play with your quiet non-crowd.
+ridizzle189 you're still a total idiot
I'm French and I remember this, Hingis vs Graf, and I was embarrassed for my country when it happened. Neither Serena nor Hingis deserved the shocking rudeness of the crowd. Frankly, Hingis was never the same player again after that incident. I think the whole debacle ruined tennis for her.

Steffi Graf was VERY appreciated in France. Disrespect her and bashing Mauresmo was a bad move
tamara andre your beautiful 💋
I stopped watching tennis after this match. Two of my favourite players, yet one of the ugliest matches I have ever seen; all because the audience couldn’t just let them play.
Djokovic mastered the crowd ranting and was winning matches. It's tough to focus in such scenarios
Djokovic never got this much hate of a reaction. Serena was playing well despite the constant booing, and her focused only got distracted because of Justine cheating. No doubt she would have won the match if it wasnt because of that. Martina was a great talent, but she aint Steffi Graf. Graf is one of the greatest ever in the history of the game, Hingis was never on her level. Also there is no need to bring up Djokovic over an unrelated issue. Sorry to say, but this is why people despise Djoko's fans. They are too loud and all over the place it becomes annoying. I have nothing against Djokovic, just his fans.
@@secrets.295 you are a triggered roger or nadal fan 😂😂😂 Roger played all his career with crowd on his side still choked in many finals to djokovic 😂😂😂....Novak is the 🐐 you can keep crying.

Yeah. Hate or like her, gotta admire the fact that she is that tough.
If the crowd hates you just adopt the Medvedev approach and challenge them. It instantly makes you charismatic and relatable.
people should remember the stupid behaviour of Hingis during this match ... the crowd is not mad for nothing guys ...
Totally agree
Illya Kuryakin Yeah, I just googled and at the 1999 AO Lindsay Davenport said, referring to Mauresmo, that "I thought I was playing a guy" and then Hingis referred to Mauresmo as "half a man." Well, we've come a long way baby!
@rc'n gel productions french crowd no manners at all. it's true playing against her and serena is just playing against man. so what's wrong with it? it's their opinion so as mine.
I remember watching this live back in the late 90''s. Hingis was just a kid. It was shameful what happened there. I wont watch the clip , even now.
Anyway Hingis just won the mixed double championship in Australia, jan 2015.So she recovered well from this.
***** I'm 18, and in all honesty, we are still kids mentally.
@@BritaniaANDPrussia what now ?
Hingis was also super arrogant, called Steffi "old", called a french female tennis player 'half a man", etc. She was an arrogant twat and reaped what she sowed. Age doesn't deprive you of fucking manners.
2 different situations. Hingis was a brat in that time period who had earned the wrath of the French crowd. Williams was a victim of the French love for Henin who pulled sheningans from time to time.
even so, Hingis was a teenager, neither her nor Serena deserved that.
o b I don’t see how it matters, if you got to that level you’ve been booed before. So the crowd is supposed to know everyone’s age and only have reaction to someone that is how old? Is 25 old enough to be booed? Maybe 35?
@@TheMW2informer How about they just act in a civilised manner and not bully a defenceless player. The crowd was hideous. Pick on a bigger violent person who can and wants to defend themselves and see how that works out.
I can't believe the disgusting philosophy of some humans thinking it's ok for hundreds of people to bully and pick on a young person who is there to just entertain them by playing tennis.
@@ob1917 , Yes, indeed. I admire British and Aussie spectators. They are quite and there to watch tennis, not to boo or jeer. They applaud the players they don't support as well. French Crowd being rude? How the hell am I not surprised AT ALL?
Cause you're racist and don't know any french I guess..
French is a nationality not a race. So its not racist.
French are white race like you.
so are the English and ther German (part of the white race) but of the 3 only the French are so arrogant when it comes to crowds. How do you explain that with racism? You can't you dumbass. Racism is absolutely not involved when you say the French are arrogant. It is culture. But I guess you are a liberal snowflake and "racism" is your go to response to everything you don't like.
Are all french people arrogant? Ofcourse not! Are some people from other countries arrogant? Ofcourse yes!
On tendency the french are just more arrogant in numbers and by percentage than others. And that is because of culture and history. They are the country where the idea of european nationalism - which ended the era of monarchy and started the era of democracy in europe before the germans took it too far - was born, so it's not that surprising. They are very aware of this too. I have been there for years and have been in conversations with many different people about this stuff a lot. They told me what I just told you. To me you sound like someone who talks about stuff out of a social justice sense rather than experience. Wont respond again.
Andrea, thank you! I hope the French and Belgians and whoever else attend the French Open this year help to redeem the country's reputation by behaving well. They should want the BEST to win. Not try to sabotage one person. The reputation of the event suffers if the crowd tries so negatively to become another "opponent" for one player in addition to the one they have to play across the net from.
Hingis was a poor sport, very unsportsmanlike...I've never been so happy to see anyone lose

'What are we doing? Are we playing tennis or just talking a little bit?' LOL LOVE STEFFI!
I competed in France several times, and the crowds and spectators were kind and supportive. I did not find any of the people rude. Want rude? Try China, Cuba, Peru, Venezuela and Mexico. Those were awful crowds.
Omg Serena crying at the end is heartbreaking! I watched a video recently where Henin said she regretted the incident with the hand in the air and said she would have acted differently.
I like the French crowd but sometimes they can be unnecessarily cruel. Imagine being the player at the centre of all those thousands having your errors cheered.
They just love Steffi. Hingis behavior that day was annoying. Even Steffi the coolest player was loosing her temper. At the end Hingis played victim.
Half-true. The crowd was rooting for both players up until the second underarm serve in the 3rd set. And she was annoying, but that was only because Steffi was knowingly defending a bad line call. Hingis did have more integrity, that day, despite violating a pretty dumb rule. But no hard feelings...gotta get that last slam, somehow. Hingis did blow her chance to serve out the match, later that set.
she was 18 please. you’re a loser.
play on, don't stop for booing, it will encourage them. It is a cheeky serve so booing can be expected
The country may be physically beautiful, but the people are pampered, precious and rotten.
Martina Hingis was the Justin Bieber of women's tennis
I am really Shocked about This, Because "Hingis" is such a lovely sports personality and history maker. Crowd can cheer whom ever they want but they cant interrupt the Game, I felt Whole management was shameful in this kind of incidents. How rude people behave here with this two international Big Women Players. I am so sad of this.
At that time Hingis was the beauty of that era . Dreamgirl
Haha Hingis went off and then came back to cry.
I remember watching this match and I recall that Hingis was losing and she started playing like she'd given up and didn't care, there was no fight in her and the crowd turned on her because they wanted to see a match. But then she did this weird underhanded serve that was bizarre and that's when the crowd really lost it with her. It was cringe worthy, my impression was that she was losing and started acting like a petulant child and she blamed the crowd for affecting her game and so they gave her something to blame them for.
Everyone needs to watch the whole match she showed poor sportsmanship towards Steffi Graff.
But she's just a kid
She started playing a game like a child...ok :P
The whole debacle started after she protested against a call on Graf's baseline. When not turned, she herseld crossed to the other side to examine against match referee's orders. This is when the crowd went completely against her and she also got penalized points. Started her whole meltdown.
So it was her fault to behave immaturely on just one bad call, but maybe the whole situation could be avoided if they had technology back then.
@@4zafinc They still don't use the technology on Clay Courts anyway. And I remember watching this match Live in 1999 and the French crowd were a disgrace bringing an 18 year old girl to tears.
Absolutely nothing wrong with an underhand serve. A legitimate strategy and should be used more often. Seriously.
Parisian crowd. Outside of Paris you will find the French to be the friendliest of people. When you enter a shop always smile and say Bonjour to the staff otherwise they will think you are being rude and will be cold back to you. This misunderstanding of French etiquette often leads to tourists thinking French people are rude.
Not quite true
stevefm fm don’t you think it would make sense for them to be nice to tourists regardless? ...Not just for their economy but, you know, to be nice to others?
Then plz change etiquette or world will not be nice to you.
It’s not the customer’s responsibility to introduce themselves and say “bonjour”. Any business owner should be welcoming their guest first. No exceptions. Expecting a customer to beg for your attention is arrogance.
"S'il vous plait! S'il vous plait!"
Not only are they not paying attention, but they're booing louder! 😖
The Serena interview broke my heart. For real
If I was the chair ump I would have cleared the stadium completely of onlookers; if they don't behave properly they don't deserve to see the players play at all.
How would you clear them Einstein? There are thousands of people in there...
@@Jp19981 shut down or suspend the match; remove players to the locker room; have security personnel use bullhorns or whatever to expel the crowd; they can see another match instead.
"You just have to keep smiling..." There should be more people who think like that in the world
There are two ways to think about that. If you mean „always think positive“, then I agree. On the other hand, it could mean that people should be smiling despite of what they feel. Something I don’t second at all. People would be educated to be dishonest. No bueno.
When I went to Paris I had, unfortunately the same bad experience, but not all French are like that:)
Good , she totally deserved it
You cannot juge a people for a five minutes video, without showing the context...
I have to disaggree strongly. It was NOT the audience that was rude, it was Martina Hingis. And she brought on herself, that the audience was against her. You see - i loved to watch Martina Hingis play, but she had the wrong attitude. She often mocked other players - for example Amelie Mauresmo (a beloved lesbian french player), when Martina said that "she looked and played like a man." RUDE! And before this game she stated, that this game would show, that "the time of Steffi Graf is over:" RUDE AGAIN - and Steffi Graf was beloved by the french, too. So - Martina turned the audience against her - by choice. And when she constantly complained on THIS match about refery dicisions and even crossed the net to go to the oppenents tennis side - a thing, which is strinctly forbidden and which i have NEVER seen again, then and only then she was mocked by the audience. Well, and I think she kind of deserved it.
And maybe - there is a story for the other players a well...
And what IS really rude - are the racist comment here. SHAME ON YOU!
Sorry but for me nothing can justify the rudeness of the crowd, Martina Hingis always has the Courage to say what she is thinking and for me this was always the truth and not rude. The umpire was really bad and there are many decisions against Hingis. To cross the net was a mistake from her, but Hingis only wants to fight for her right with her sence of justice. The crowd boos a 18th year old charming girl down and make her cry. This behaviour from the crowd was so disgraceful. It was a wild, bad mob who only wants to make Martina Hingis mental down. This is unforgivable!!!
That is a very good serve. True knowledge.

While I admit, that the crown were over reacting to Hingis', I have to put a few things into perspective. Firstly Hingis was a cocky and arrogant and very unsportmenslike in those days. Secondly, I think she underestimated the standinf Graf had at roland Garros and was, at that point, just and immature teenager and overwhelmed about the entire situation. Hingis was a great player and in later years a great person, but what happend to here on that day, she brought upon herself for the most part. Still, and a absolutley acknowledge that fact, the crowd should have been more empathetic towards here, recognizing that she was just a young girl that didn't know any better. As far as I recall Graf even mentions that in her acceptance speech later on!
