    Great conversation. So happy this came up on my feed. There’s so many in the next generation that were all supposed to be the star. Casper Ruud also has come so close. I definitely put Medvedev at a higher level over Tsisipas and Zverev. I think the personality’s of Alcarez and Sinner give their minds an advantage. The drama and cocky egos of those other guys are catty.

    • @MrLarryLessor
      @MrLarryLessor 12 дней назад +5

      Their flop is a huge reason Novak has the "slam lead"
      He's not "The greatest to ever live" as many have been myopically saying the past few years - as this year has proven. You can blame injury for Wimbledon - but you can't blame that for everything: Novak lost to a teenager a year ago. Was injury an excuse then? In January he didn't win one of his favorite tournaments - Injury also not an excuse - as Sinner proved he AND Alcarez are ready to take charge.
      Medvedev has already straight-setted Novak at the US Open - (Again, novak fans can't blame injury - again not an excuse for that loss to Medvedev) after he saw Sinner and Alcarez in on the fun , he showed at WImbledon that Daniil won't be taken lightly either.
      Novak beat up on all these OG Next Gens who just weren't that great - and he didn't even win convincingly: He lost like 2 sets to TSisipas, 2 sets to Kyrgios.... 1 or 2 sets to berritini
      That's why Novak couldn't beat roger in just about any final until 2011 when Roger was past 30.
      Yes bring on the new blood. The "BIG 3" era is on its deathbed. Novak may still have a pulse - he could get lucky and pop a major or two even. But the new blood is here to stay - don't be surprised if Novak doesn't win a major again. It's not out of the question....

    I'm sure I have missed couple of names. These two generations were subdue overpowered and run over by BIG3.
    Current Gen stars Alcaraz and Sinner are a bit lucky to peak when BIG 3 are retired, injured and are on declin. But I would put these guys above previous Gen and next Gen.

      We'll never know. Carlos is amazing for his age. But each of the Big 3 had the other 2 battling them. And all 3 were all time greats playing at the same time. What I will say is that as insanely talented as Carlos is, I don't see anyone really challenging him from the current lot. It'll be like one of the Big 3 not having the other two and just running away with records. Even Sinner from what we have seen till now has quite a lot to improve if he were to beat Carlos on a regular basis. And it's insane to see Novak is still a top contender at 37. He was in the Big 3 with Fed and Nadal, then Big 2 with Nadal and now again Big 3 with Sinner and Carlos. Mind-boggling.

Once Novak retires, it'll be Big 2 of Sinner and Carlos and next tier of Meddy and then the rest. Tsitsipas is done. Zverev has not improved his game a lot from what I have seen. Old nole or semi retired rafa or retired roger made the ascend of carlos and sinner to the top easier compared to original next gen. Scar tissue of the tough losses would have more likely delayed the ascension or even, completelt take the confidence away.
    That era from 2008 - 2016 was scary tough. 2017 - 2021 still had roger and rafa for 2 years. Novak and rafa till 2022. Novak only in 2023.

    Before them were other brilliant 'never won a slam' players. Monfils, Tsonga, Dmitrov, straddled with Kyrgios, Tomic (two junior slams) and so many other absolutely wonderful players who just kept playing and, as Kyrgios said, 'I thought that ship had sailed'. Covid actually took out three years of their playing lives. They held up the other end of the courts in every spectacular match. They got stone-walled by the boring big three in every slam, rarely losing to anyone at a lower rank. Do you really believe they were not a part of the conversation? Kyrgios was part of the conversation for so many years, constantly seriously injured, constantly called out as if he was tanking, faking, but playing with pain because he thought that's what you do, finally unable to walk or hold a racquet. What did you do to those guys?

    The x factor that set the top 3 apart from the og next gen always was going to be mental stamina and the aptitude levels to get through to big finals and win slams. Tsitsipas, Rublev, Zverev and Kyrgios among others have way too many psychological issues and personal baggage that has affected the confidence and focus of ever standing a real chance of challenging for slams. Sinner and Alcaraz have displayed a Novak and Rafa like mental toughness which is setting them apart in leaps and bounds and are filling the void that the top 3 have left.

  • @alexhunter7978
    @alexhunter7978 12 дней назад +1

    Setting aside their slam count, look at their inability to compete on multiple surfaces compared to Alcaraz and Sinner! For example, none of them have been able to play on grass and you can't blame the big 3 for that because they lose to EVERYONE at Wimbledon. They really have a lack of consistency when it comes to all four slams specifically.
    Their lack of mental fortitude has also been dissapointing to watch. Carlitos lost to Novak in the FO semi's last year and bounced back a month later to beat him at wimbledon, contrast that to Tsitsipas who still hasnt gotten over his 2021 final loss level wise. So yes you could argue that the original next gen had slightly higher competition, but ive brought up just two examples off the top of my head as to why i also think that they are weaker players compared to the new next gen. Theres plenty more examples out there.

    • @sportslover2356
      @sportslover2356 7 дней назад

      Kyrgios is great on grass but injuries have stymied him. His country always mocked him for 'fake' injuries so he kept playing through the pain and aggravating it instead of resting - Now he can scarcely lift a racquet. This lot hate him most of all for being a failure.

    Even now Novak is a top contender. And Carlos is clearly the best now and Sinner a very close second behind Carlos. Once Novak retires, its a very easy road for Carlos and Sinner. Only Meddy can pose a challenge some days.
    The Big 3 had Murray and Wawrinka around as well. Carlos and Sinner have, at the moment not a lot of competition. Imo if Carlos can keep himself injury free, he can go on to break all records easily unless someone really good comes along.

    And if it were Alcaraz and Sinner playing before Zverev, Tsitsipas and Medvedev with the big 3, you guys would have been talking about them instead being 'flopped'. Also if Alcaraz or Sinner was to play in his first ever grand slam final against a big 3 guy, trust me, they would not have won. No, just no. They would be petrified, they would have zero support from the crowd, and they would have had the same troubles. Tsitsipas was very close, but only Medvedev was able to get the job done and frankly it cost him his best peak form. Alcaraz played his first final against a very unstable Ruud, already hyped up before by the media, and Sinner played an overplayed tired Medvedev and also having generated nedia hype before that. The gen you talk about had none of that. Yes, they had buzz but come on, you being media yourself, kept on hyping up only the slams race between the big 3, giving us, the audience "oh, their time will come". And it just couldn't. And then you found a new upcoming star, right at the time when Fed retired, Nadal is ill and misses most tournaments, Novak having issues with being able to play. Had Novak been allowed to play US in 2022, Alcaraz would not have been the winner.
