I’m a Nadal fan but I remember watching this young dude named Djokovic struggling to breathe and the announcers kept saying he was nervous, but he wasn’t double faulting and he would always come in clutch in the big points. In my head I was like this dude ain’t nervous, but there was an issue for sure because he would retire while leading the score because he couldn’t get oxygen in it appeared. I’m glad he sorted out his allergy because living with an undiagnosed allergy is quite a challenge. I wish he figured it out a bit later so Nadal could have the most majors but gotta congratulate him. I knew he wasn’t nervous!
yeah, I saw him first at one of his earliest (maybe first) U.S. Opens...he clearly had very smooth strokes off both wings, very accurate, and was an excellent mover....sure, not physically fully developed and not a ton of power but clearly a major prospect
I liked Djokovic when he first came out and won the Aussie in 08... But his behavior since proved to me he will never be "GOAT"..... not if you understand the traits that make elite tennis players - I don't care if he wins 10 more slams in a row (just not going to happen with Alcarez and Sinner now). But even if he kept beating these nobodies like he has for 3 years now, I don't care if he gets 25, 30 slams. They are not equivalent to when Roger won so many in the 2000s against some of the best ever in their prime: He beat Sampras, Agassi, Hewitt, Djokovic in FInals, Nadal in Finals, Roddick etc etc. That means alot more than beating tsisipas in 5 sets, or medvedev who is up and down, kyrgios, berritini etc. Novak's a top 5 great - but if Wimbledon/ US OPen had not slowed down their courts in 2003 or so.... the disparity/ the gap between Federer, Novak and Nadal would have been even MORE OBVIOUS. It would have been boring for tennis fans to see Federer win so much. That's why the tournaments changed their surfaces - on purpose. They knew what they were doing..... they caused "debate" to raise interest. If they hadn't slowed down the surfaces, there would be no debate about the best in the 21st Century: ROGER.
@@СашаПетровић-н6х I will post something soon that I send you - It shows that prior to 2003, Federer's serves cut through the grass faster and bounced LOWER to the returner .... this woudl have made it harder for Djoker to return. But after 03 or so Federer's serve bounced higher and was slower off the longer grass giving returners (and thus more defensive players) more of a chance on grass - whereas in the past before the 2000s the offensive aggressive players had more advantage. So clearly djoker benefited from that... but he still couldn't win wimbledon until Federer was past 30 yrs old by 2011 or so. So Djoker had all those years when the grass was in his favor in 05 and thereafter.... yet the still couldn't win until 2011 - You can call him the goat but I've seen players who are quite better overall than Novak on any surface: - Nadal obviously on Clay. - Pete and Roger on hard courts. Sampras and Roger have much more potent and consistent aggressive serves more than Djoker - they also volleyed much better. My friend coached an ATP player who beat Federer at Wimbledon: He told me "Djoker especially in his young days had a serve that was a liability" NO ONE in their right mind would ever say Sampras or Federer's serve were "a liability"
@@tomsd8656 no the woman is a xénophobe attacking Steffi Graf relentlessly…not what a commentator should do…and then, she was dreadfully wrong about Nole…dreadfully…if she admitted it and said mea culpa then maybe I could forgive her bullshit
She certainly can be a foolish commentator. Yeah, she played mixed dbls w/McEnroe, but so what? She forever tried to hype Sharapova over Serena, who beat Sharapova 20 times in the 22 matches they played. Just weird commentary from her.
This clearly illustrates one of the biggest reasons I applaud, appreciate and celebrate Novak Djokovic. Federer was born with it, that style, that talent, and, along with it all that arrogance. Novak had to work for it, he had to train, he had to refine, he had to constantly up his game. Against all the media prejudice, against all of the horribly inappropriate fans of other players, he changed his diet he changed his life he changed just about everything, and he refined it to an art form. This is why he's the greatest of all time, because he had to work for it and work extremely hard to keep it. I love all three, Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, and it will be a sad end of an error when they are all retired. But the greatest of all is clearly Djokovic, with his record, and his endless, relentless perseverance.
Why he only won 3 Slams between 2012-2014? He's allergy problems were behind him. Let's wait and see if he will win at least 1 Slam this year. If not, Joker is (probably) done

Incredible how aggressive young Djokovic plays. Fiery player! Twice as many forehand winners as Coria, who would've thought! Just shows how good his forehand was and is, it's just been overshadowed by even bigger hitters. But always a very underrated shot!
Um....every tennis champion was once a skinny kid. All of them. Again, every tennis champion was once a skinny kid. Repeat that to yourself, then you will never be shocked when a tennis champion was once a skinny kid.
Mary Carillo is the worst announcer ever! So smug (kamala laugh) As always, they had to send McEnroe to save the broadcast by shutting her up. Better to watch a Mary (smug) match on mute!
During those days, McEnroe wasn't that good. Always mispronouncing player's names and saying the most obvious things. He improved a lot over time though.

This kid is gonna go far because in tennis its not about who plays the prettiest its about who is the hungriest and causes others to break down and who knows more about being hungry and broken down than serbia
This guy still ATP top 5 in the world still at age 37 year old and been #1 for a long run too!
even better, top 3
The skinny kid is still hungry for more grand slams !!!
I remember watching him play Federer in the semifinals for the first time & was like OMG this kid is gonna be amazing when he grows up.
That skinny kid, is the GREATEST OF ALL TIME!
They have to feel like the biggest idiots after that comment now
This young lad is pretty good. I think he could do well in the future. Good luck boy
Back in that day, Coria and Djokovic had the same amount of Grand Slam titles.
So happy to see Novak win his Olympic Gold. That’s a total clean sweep. He’s the GOAT in my book. Lots of love from Scotland 🏴.
Here in 2024 after dj won gold at Olympics. This was great 👍.
God bless him and his family. Well deserved Olympic gold.
He is Serbian and that was his problem for the elite western tennis world. They did everything under the sun to no to play in Australian open.
Thanks for this, I didn't know about this match. Unbelievable tennis from this young man who became the most successful player of all time.
Once Djokovic changed his diet his allergies and other problems disappeared. He is now actually a vegan for the past 8 years or so.
They are not equivalent to when Roger won so many in the 2000s against some of the best ever in their prime:
He beat Sampras, Agassi, Hewitt, Djokovic in FInals, Nadal in Finals, Roddick etc etc.
If they hadn't slowed down the surfaces, there would be no debate about the best in the 21st Century:
ROGER.
@@MrLarryLessor dude in chanell goatkovic prove with data that courts are acctualy faster! Yeeee!
@@СашаПетровић-н6х
I will post something soon that I send you -
It shows that prior to 2003, Federer's serves cut through the grass faster and bounced LOWER to the returner .... this woudl have made it harder for Djoker to return.
So Djoker had all those years when the grass was in his favor in 05 and thereafter.... yet the still couldn't win until 2011 -
You can call him the goat but I've seen players who are quite better overall than Novak on any surface:
- Nadal obviously on Clay.
- Pete and Roger on hard courts. Sampras and Roger have much more potent and consistent aggressive serves more than Djoker - they also volleyed much better.
My friend coached an ATP player who beat Federer at Wimbledon: He told me "Djoker especially in his young days had a serve that was a liability"
NO ONE in their right mind would ever say Sampras or Federer's serve were "a liability"
Mary Carillo hardly knows what she is talking about
She did, and she was right AT THAT TIME. Djokivic's retired.
@@tomsd8656 no the woman is a xénophobe attacking Steffi Graf relentlessly…not what a commentator should do…and then, she was dreadfully wrong about Nole…dreadfully…if she admitted it and said mea culpa then maybe I could forgive her bullshit
She's still a dope
She certainly can be a foolish commentator. Yeah, she played mixed dbls w/McEnroe, but so what? She forever tried to hype Sharapova over Serena, who beat Sharapova 20 times in the 22 matches they played. Just weird commentary from her.
@@keithjones9546 not so much…because she took such delight at hoping Steffi would lose from the time of Martina forward
Yeah man totally agree well said period 👍
Patrick Mc and Mary were the worst for me …. I always hit mute
Mary Carillo is SO FUCKING ANNOYING she's so in love with the sound of her own pompous voice

Well she is a man!
Its funny because Serbs were never hungry, even german generals in WWII were impressed by the amount of food supply.. arrogant and ignorant, as always
You are right! But you can't expect much from two clowns, called commentators... 😏😏
Old grandmother 👵, she can laugh now
If only Djokovic discovered his allergies earlier, he would have 30 slams by now.
😂
Why he only won 3 Slams between 2012-2014? He's allergy problems were behind him. Let's wait and see if he will win at least 1 Slam this year. If not, Joker is (probably) done

OMG she is so unprofessional and rude! Western media have always humiliated Djokovic and tried in every possible way to restrain him, they literally put the man in prison! But he was born with angels and he looks to the sky and to God.... When God hears you, who can touch you!? Nobody! .......................I will tell my grandchildren: There were many great tennis players.
But there was ONE that words can not describe him. No one has ever, and no one will ever play like him. Only he constantly defeated the evil media, the hostile crowd, the world elite, and big players at the same time. The one and only, the best ever, the GOAT NOVAK DJOKOVIC!!! Hands down🙌⚜
My god, I never want to hear Mary Carillo's voice again!!!
Incredible how aggressive young Djokovic plays. Fiery player! Twice as many forehand winners as Coria, who would've thought! Just shows how good his forehand was and is, it's just been overshadowed by even bigger hitters. But always a very underrated shot!
Yeah i love his style of play back then.
@@jeffhermida4788 probably high testosteron levels and also trying to end rallies quicker due to his breathing problems :)
because now he knows how and when to use his skills better, so he doesn't tire himself when there's no need, he takes care of himself better
The forehand is also underrated because of how good his backhand is -- but you can see in the last few years he's been winning more with his forehand!
He beat the pulp of ball till 2009
🎉Djokovic has stuck his middle finger to these type of people for almost 20 years so what is there more to say!!

Um....every tennis champion was once a skinny kid. All of them. Again, every tennis champion was once a skinny kid. Repeat that to yourself, then you will never be shocked when a tennis champion was once a skinny kid.
Lindsay Davenport is the exception.
He who laughs last, laughs best
Mary Carillo is the worst announcer ever! So smug (kamala laugh) As always, they had to send McEnroe to save the broadcast by shutting her up. Better to watch a Mary (smug) match on mute!
During those days, McEnroe wasn't that good. Always mispronouncing player's names and saying the most obvious things. He improved a lot over time though.
The two commentators moved to washing bathrooms 12 years ago
I understand that the commentators have to be entertaining and funny, but why'd they have to make fun of him THAT much in the begining?
Because they are morons
Because he denied there citizenship offer that most of the world's ppl would die for. They needed to make an example out of him and he made an example out of them because truth will always prevail. They can't have an Orthodox man that knows his identity prevail, he will wake up too many people that are under the spell of western hegemony.
