  • Just out in North Yorkshire on top of the Moors listening to AM CB radio on the skip from the USA rolling in really strong in the late afternoon (recorded 6 October 2013). Just the small rubber duck antenna used here so was very surprised at how well this worked. We were on a high point as you can see from the video but even at the bottom of the valleys the signals were still booming through. Over the past few weeks this has been a common trend with the USA being heard on AM in the mid block almost every afternoon.
You'll also note that on channel 6 we hear the big gun super bowl stations using several kW to talk across town and making the ionosphere glow green ;) There is something really magical about listening to AM from a distant land on a handheld radio.

They’re good little transceivers those! I always regretted getting rid of mine, so I’ve just managed to source another! 😉👍🏻

Seems to be sensitive but without SSB not sure I would buy one. Not long now for legal SSB and AM, an announcement from Ofcom expected next week around 17th

Ah,yes.....channel six.splatter box central.a literal metric shit ton of welfare recipients with $10,000 worth of crap sounding radios cover 10 channel's in either direction announcing that they "BUMP BUMP BUMP AND I JUST GOT DOWN". all the while, amazed that with 2 Kilowatt's plus they can cover 500 miles of skip.
