Thank you for being the ONLY person I could find actually explaining how this weird thing works (the hook strap). I was so confused!!! I thought it should hook on itself somehow around the neck like some of the other straps.
I've needed a video like this! I'm a beginner in the Uke world, and although my son insists I am wrong(he plays Uke and guitar)...I could really use a strap! Am I the only woman who feels her bust can make positioning and playing a challenge?🤦🏻♀️ In particular while standing? Suggestion? Favorites?
Glad to be of help and yes, the bust issue is not new at all. Personally I like a 1 inch strap and have it quite high. My favourite straps are from here: www.strapsforchords.co.uk/
Thank you so much ☺️ this is the most detailed video I have come across on this topic! My ukulele has strap holding buttons just like yours (the last option you showed)
Greetings from the coast to f beautiful California, USA. I’m thrilled to be a brand new Ukulele musician! And Thank you so much for your wonderful explanations! 🎸
Thanks for the video…had no idea about the strings included with the strap 👍 now I know , they tie to neck under strings … I need a strap newbie and ukulele slips all the time ❤️
@@UkuleleWales If you would like to share some original music I would love to use it as background music in my bird videos and include a link to your channel!
Thank you for this. I had to decide whether to add a top strap button and couldn’t figure out how to tie the strap without, onto the head stock. I tried it and like you I didn’t want it in my way of my hand. Thank you for the video! Love the Ukulaliens theme!!! ❤️
I am new to the ukulele, so I was thinking where I was going to tie the top strap, because I think my ukulele just has the one button. Hoping to get my ukulele in a week or so. Thanks for explaining.
Thanks for your amazing videos Rachel - they are such a great help! Would you recommend strap buttons for older primary school children? I guess that the strap would aid a better position for beginners ... Many thanks!!!
So glad they are helping. TBH we don't use straps on the school ukes we have but the kids all sit down to play. When we have concerts they tend to stand use their own ukes with straps on them. We use concert and hopefully one day I will get around to adding straps. As for primary, I would say you could probaby manage if they are sitting, standing maybe more awkward. One really good thing with straps, it does help with technque as you do get less students laying the ukes flatter on their laps. Sorry about the ramble.
@@UkuleleWales Many thanks for your advice and thoughts! I have made a similar observation with my 'crew' at home - the strap really helps the younger one to position the instrument much better, even when sitting. So the current plan is to add some Flight straps to our beginning of year order (the ukuleles we are going to get thankfully come with 2 strap buttons already). Thanks again =)
I've played guitar but picked up my first ukulele today. It had one strap button so I was confused. Not now, thanks! Now to get a strap since I know what I'm doing.
Thanks, Always wondered what a little leather straps were for! Finally have a uke I need to tie off the headstock, now to go search for where I might’ve misplaced one…
Helpful, but a brief mention would be helpful of the complication faced by us left handers playing a normal uke (ie with the button on the wrong side).
I am curious, does your slotted headstock make the leather strap tie not an option? Do the slots make less of a gap between the strings to slide it under?
You have answered all of my problems/questions with this video! Great job, well done! Any suggestions for the 1 strap button ? (i'd prefer the one with the leather neck tie) i live in Greece, so i 'll have to order from another country..
Hi Antonis, I know Southern Ukulele Store ships to Europe - www.southernukulelestore.co.uk/accessories/straps/sus-softy-soft-leather-headstock-tie Also, they are on Amazon here in UK, I'm not sure about shipping to Greece though - www.amazon.co.uk/Tiger-STP70-BK-Headstock-Acoustic-Electric/dp/B07RX89KGB Hope you manage to get one.
That was helpful for me to select my 1st ukulele thanks for vedio.. 😊Can u please make a vedio on how to prevent stray notes while playing ukulele. Im a beginner and don't know why my fingers keep touching the other strings while playing.. Plz help me out.

Thanks Paul, hope your new uke arrives in a timely fashion as you sound quite excited! Glad to have helped and please feel free to ask questions. Have fun when it arrives!!
I have a Ukulele without any buttons and a $40 (American) strap looking for buttons. As it stands, the strap is only helpful if I add buttons. Do I drill holes?
You can still use the hook strap but my definite preference is the strap button. I have 2 hook straps here that I never use, does that make you feel better. ;-)
Seems complicated, but I guess you could add a uke leash. ruclips.net/video/8CDdiopO8Kw/видео.html I can picture myself getting tangled with that combination.

Yes, you need to drill holes to add strap buttons but it really is easy to do.

My uke has a bottom button. But I just bought a hook strap from an online shop yesterday. I wonder I might have made a wrong choice.
You can still use the hook strap but my definite preference is the strap button. I have 2 hook straps here that I never use, does that make you feel better. ;-)
can I combine a hook strap with a strap around the neck of the uke?
I don't think so to be honest, at least I have never seen anyone try! Let me know if you succeed.

About how much do uke straps cost?
Great question, they really can range from a couple of £s / $s up to a LOT. The straps I tend to buy are normally £10 - 15 if that helps. 👍
