  • While evangelicalism dukes it out about who can be church leaders, the rest of the 98% of us need to be well-equipped to see where we fit in God's household and why that matters. The Recovering from Biblical Manhood and Womanhood Video Study will help improve the culture of our churches and disciple men and women to read, understand, and apply Scripture together within them. Until both men and women grow in their understanding of their relationship to Scripture, there will continue to be tension between the sexes in the church.
These videos explore questions such as: Do men and women benefit equally from God's Word? Are they equally responsible in sharpening one another in the faith and passing it down to the next generation? Do we need men's Bibles and women's Bibles, or can the one, holy Bible guide us all? Is the Bible, God's Word, so male-centered and authored that women need to create their own resources to relate to it?
The Recovering from Biblical Manhood and Womanhood Video Study, featuring author and speaker Aimee Byrd, explore the feminine voice in Scripture as synergistic with the dominant male voice. Lessons fortify believers in a biblical understanding of brotherhood and sisterhood in God's household and the necessity of learning from one another in studying God's Word. This series helps to correct biblicist trends in the church today, affirming that we do not read God's Word alone, but within our interpretive covenant communities--our churches. The responsibility of every believer, men and women together, is being active and equal participants in and witnesses to the faith.

Be encouraged. God has always spoken through both men and women. To disagree is to ignore the Bible. Satan wants to discount as many people who are attempting to preach the gospel as possible. Sadly he uses many church people to do this. I believe in you. Don’t listen to the haters.

@@Sanddollar1 , I disagree. You use the word 'explore.' We are called to study the Word of God. All my life I simply accepted what others had told me I ought to believe about a woman's role in the church. Finally, in my 50s, at my husband's request (who is a pastor), I delved into the Scriptures myself on the matter, accepting only what God's Word said about it, and not allowing church tradition to instruct me. As is always the case, the Bible spoke brilliantly. I view those who bury their heads in the sand of their denominational tradition and refuse to actually DEAL with the verses that clearly show women prophesying in the church, as the ones who are cowardly on the issue and won't read the Scriptures and let them cut to the heart of the matter.

    • @myownlittlehouse471
      @myownlittlehouse471 4 года назад

@@Sanddollar1 I am not conflating those two things. I think women should be able to prophecy in the church since the NT clearly states in more than one place that women are given the gift of prophecy and that that gift should be used to edify the body. Paul is quite clear about the gift of prophecy, what it is to be used for, and its benefit to the church at large.
But I'm not talking about church leadership. Here's the thing -- I do not think the role of prophet/preacher should be confused with elder. The two are not the same. The modern church has done the conflating, as you call it. There's absolutely no reason that a preacher should be an elder. Those two roles should be separate. Church leadership should be done by elders. There is good reason to think that deacons and their wives served together. But women are given the gift of prophecy. I refuse to simply ignore Scriptural truth on that point.

A lot of people on here are saying there were no female deacons or apostles. This is not true. Read the Bible in Greek. Most of the male specific language in the New Testament concerning the offices were added by English translators and do not exist in the original Greek text that Scripture was written in. I actually wrote a book on this subject and have studied the topic for over a decade. Ladies the full 5 fold offices of God “And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers” - Ephesians 4:11 applies to you today. Elevating men and making women be lower in rank in the church is the real, sinful, worldly message here. It’s used to pervert the Bible and uphold the sinful male ego/male entitlement. No wonder conservative churches attract narcissistic men and create narcissistic men. I know, it’s hard to accept, and you’ll probably respond that I’m a bitter man-hater, because that’s the only way you know how to react when you don’t get your way.

To quote a letter by the apostle Paul to his protege Timothy, a man who himself was raised and brought to faith by his mother and grandmother, who Paul commends as pinnacles of the faith in their church: "let the women learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp the authority over the man. But to be in silence.” 1 timothy 2:11-12
The context is that Paul is instructing Timothy about the requirements of preachers and church officers, and as I said, Paul himself commended elsewhere in his letter Timothy's mother and grandmother (there's your female voice, by the way). So we know that Paul didn't want women to be utterly silent, only that their role was not as preachers, elders, and deacons in the church. Elsewhere they have plenty of work cut out for them in evangelism and teaching the next generation, as all Christians should be doing.
The interpretation is not foggy or confusing in the slightest. Only feminists and social "justice" warriors have a problem with it. But if you have a problem with this verse, you don't have a problem with me, or with Paul or Timothy, you have a problem with the God who created male and female in their specific roles. I pray anyone who reads this can set aside the buzzwords and triggering to see what God has intended for us, not to usurp and compete with each other, but to support each other in our proper and complimentary roles.

Carl Thomas You said that you don’t follow Paul, you follow Jesus ?!? Remember the whole Bible is the inspired word of God. So if you separate Jesus from Paul that means you do not believe what the Bible teaches.
      Which is:
That the bible was THE INSPIRED WORD OF GOD!
Jesus is part of the God head. God existing in three persons, The Father, Son and Holy Spirit. If you studied your Bible you would learn about this.
You’re spreading a false doctrine by instructing women to teach the gospel.
Telling women they can teach the gospel goes against what God tells us. Don’t take what Jesus said out of context.
Advising women that they can hold authority over man is modern day feminism which has NO place in Christianity.
Jesus said go TELL the disciples of my resurrection. STOP taking the message out of context. Women can evangelise outside of the church, but they are to keep silent in the church. (Meaning they cannot hold a leadership role in the teaching of a Church congregation)
Your the kind of lukewarm Christian the Bible WARNS us of. I have nothing more to say to you besides to read your Bible.

One must ask, does what Amiee Byrd write and say square with the Word of God? It is my studied point of view that what makes her thinking so dangerous to the biblical witness to what it means to be a Godly man and Godly woman is she totally underestimates the depth of our depravity as human beings and of our fallen-ness (in both men and women) - and in doing so she attempts to normalize certain aspects of human "intimacy" outside the marital relationship. I would have no problem if the title of her book was "Why Can't We Be Friendly". The fact that it isn't as she argues for being "sacred siblings" should send up red flags within the Church and with those who think her brand of evangelical feminism has a place in the Christian community. Fair warning is given to avoid her and her advocacy of the need to "recover". None such is needed when it is based on what the Scriptures have to say - and which Amiee Byrd misrepresents.

" Also, issues about who should or should not be ordained are not cultural. That issue shouldn't even need to be up for discussion. Scripture is clear about women's role in the church. They should not be ordained and given authority within the church. - 1 Timothy 2:11-12

Yes ... except, there were women prophets in the NT (not to mention the OT). And prophets in the NT were clearly preachers. And Paul is very clear about what prophets did in the church - exhorting and encouraging. And women prophets were named in the NT. And in no place in the NT was their work at all criticized. So what am I supposed to with ALL that Scripture? Ignore it? No. I am to take all that Scripture says about women's role in teaching in the church, and do the hard work of reconciling it all, rather than picking out one or two verses and shutting my ears to the rest.

There are definitely standout prophetesses in the OT and NT and one Judgess. Nevertheless, the normative NT imperatival teaching to the churches is office restricted men only. Also, as the husband is head of the wife.in apostolic teaching, one cannot see how this could fit in any taxonomy as other than some form of patriarchy. It should be interesting to see how she rejects these.

@@adamvandermolen9945 , pulpit? What pulpit? Are you adding to the Word? Paul does not mention pulpits nor sanctuaries. When he says he does not allow a woman to speak in the church, he means "church" as he always does: the body of Christ. I'd love to know what denomination abides by that understanding of that verse - OPC? RPCNA? PCA? Of course not. Nobody does that -- i.e., silencing women from speaking at all as soon as members of Christ's body are meeting together. EVERYBODY takes that verse and tweaks it, giving a spin and interpretation on it that feels more comfortable to their particular denomination.
What we must ask is this: what in the world does Paul really mean in those two verses? And how do we reconcile them with other passages that clearly show that women were gifted and called to teach in the church? In my opinion, we've messed up by binding the position of pastor/preacher with that of elder/ordination. But we've clearly messed up, and our women in the church are the ones suffering for it, for centuries. What kind of speaking is prohibited? Certainly not Priscilla's admonishing of Apollos. Why not? What about Philip's four daughters, all prophetesses? Were they silent while with other Christians? How then could them admonish and exhort? What about the "sons and daughters" in Acts 2? Are the sons prophesying in the body of Christ, and the daughters outside the body? Where do Paul or Luke ever instruct about women exhorting ... but not in a sanctuary or behind a pulpit? They were meeting in houses! The argument is ludicrous. I'd also love for anyone to show me a single verse in Acts (a book dedicated to visiting all those NT churches and addressing the conflicts and problems in the early church) where the behavior/participation of women in those churches was criticized at all. Whatever they were doing, it was not a problem.
What it seems like to me is that the male leadership in the church for centuries have used these texts (with good motives, generally) to bind others in the church while leaving themselves free. It reminds me of what Jesus said to the Pharisees: "They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on men's shoulders, but they themselves are unwilling to move them with so much as a finger." Men in leadership in the church are quick to ordain each other, even ordaining men who have been caught in serious sin, even covering up an ordained man's sin and passing him on to other churches ... but refuse a woman to be able to speak in a church because of these 2 verses. I've been told before that I cannot sing a solo from behind the pulpit, and given a lectern on the floor to sing from, lest I be considered to be 'preaching.'
I personally feel we will all get to Heaven and discover that this issue has been used to harm the church, and that we've been disobedient to Scripture, in this matter.

Women have lots of roles - just not a Pastor as scripture says he should be a 'one-woman man' (husband of one wife) so that is more than clear. Women who are seeking guidance / counsel one on one? Perfect, a godly older woman, as scripture says... (Titus 2:3-5). That duty can't be filled by a Pastor, it's not morally safe plus women can understand women better. Hence the reference given in Titus 2. ♥️

down the collar of his robe.
It is as if the dew of Hermon
      were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the Lord bestows his blessing,
      even life forevermore."
We are all the bride of Christ. We are all brothers and sisters through him.
We are allowed and expected to have dissenting ideas and we can reason with one another, but we are to do it with gentleness, graciousness, and love. "And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful." Even to those who are clearly out of line.
Not that Aimee is, but if you perceive her to be, I would expect you to engage with her gently and with respect as a fellow believer. Is this book something aimed at bringing dissent, purely inflammatory and only made for shock value... or is it gently asking people from a position of humility to reconsider their views on these matters? Have you even yet read a word of it?
And if you truly believe that you as a man have a greater responsibility for the welfare of your sisters in Christ, I do not see how taking her down a peg and attempting to shame her is done out of love and loyalty to Christ and the Church.

Perhaps the "discussion" needs to start with a counter series entitled, "Recovering from unBiblical Manhood and Womanhood"? This subject is far more important than the question of whether or not women should be leading and teaching in the church. Here is why...
The Bible's teaching regarding the roles of men and women in the church is straightforward, particularly in regards to the area of teaching and authority. There hasn't been much confusion on this subject until the advent of feminism.
When churches begin going down the path of adopting the radically distorted hermeneutics of Liberalism for texts dealing with any particular subject, it never stops there.
Today it is women teaching. Tomorrow will be the ordination of women. Next week it will be waving the rainbow flag.

There are two iron-clad truths in the Bible: (a) We live in a divine monarchy - we have a king (Jesus is Lord) and, (2) We live in a cosmic patriarchy - we have a heavenly father. These are inescapable truths in the created order as God made it and we would thrive and be much happier if we moved with this flow rather than searching endlessly to find the illusive counter current.

Here is a question for you Aimee: Why should I care an inch about what YOU have to say regarding a theological topic that belongs among elders in the churches. If you want to know what the Bible says about the roles of men and women in the churches, seek the answer from Scripture. Seek the answer from your godly, biblically ordained elders. DO NOT SEEK counsel from a female who is distinctly NOT called to provide counsel or guidance or teaching in this area in the churches. This is how women do an end-around on Scripture's teaching about the roles of men and women in the churches.
Aimee: how do we answer radical feminist who accuse the Bible of being a patriarchal document?
Answer: Biblical patriarchy is not immoral. It is God's design and God's design is perfectly moral.
That's one way to answer it that accords perfectly with Scripture.
    Sick of this drivel.
Women are called to submit to their husbands. To raise their children well. To manage the household in a godly manner. To disciple other women. They are NOT called to the office of teacher, not are they called to preach or serve as elders and I reject the idea they are even called to be deaconesses. Serve the body, yes! Serve in that office? Nope.

What concerns me is how these Scriptures regarding women's roles in the church and in marriage are automatically applied to other areas of life by some complementarians. Should women be permitted to work outside the home? If so, should women be permitted to hold leadership positions over men in the workplace? The Bible doesn't forbid women from working outside the home or holding positions of authority at work.

Your brother can become whatever he wants, though. He can have the glorious role as parent plus whatever else he chooses to pursue" I can see how this would drive women away from complementarianism.

You should care about what she says for the same reason that Timothy cared about what his Grandmother and mother modeled for him in faith (2 Timothy 1:5) and for the same reason that Apollos should care about what Priscilla taught him, and the church at Cenchrea should care about what Phoebe said to them. And because believers are all called to submit to one another out of reverence for Christ (Ephesians 5:21). She doesn't have to be a man or an elder to qualify for your respect.
Also, men are called to raise their children well every single bit as much as women. And called to manage their household well.
And there were women apostles and deacons in the church during Paul's lifetime, that he commended and respected. Let's not forget that.

Jesus actually spoke to women and listened to their words and opinions respectfully; Jesus actually had female FRIENDS. Modern-day male complementarians don't respect women or their opinions and accuse women of sin if they try to speak openly in the Christian community (outside of church), which is not forbidden in the Scriptures. Have you noticed that male complementarians will always quote the apostle Paul and never consider how Jesus treated women? Cherry-picking Scriptures is pushing both men and women away from the church.
