- Phoebe gets a lot of attention in discussions about New Testament gender roles. As the woman tasked with delivering Paul’s letter to the Roman church, the discussion often revolves around Paul’s recommendation of Phoebe as a deacon, but perhaps we haven’t paid enough attention to her role as a "sister."

Thanks for your thoughtful words. Paul’s familiarity with the church in Rome leads me to think that he was the founder even though he was yet to visit it. I think he requested those named to leave their former places to establish the church in Rome.
So good, thank you! I really needed to hear this.
Great teaching. Makes you think.
I'm just thinking about your acting and delivery!!
much of Pauls Theology was influenced by Luke. Who influenced Luke.
Luke was influenced by Paul.
Paul keeps the teachings he received from Christ.
Here Christ explains that our Physical Family is not more important than our Spiritual Family.”
Mark 3:31-35
King James Version
31 “There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him.
32 And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee.
33 And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?
34 And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.”
Paul's conversion occurred after the crucifiction. Scholars say it was 5-7 years later.
In order for you to say, ..." ...the teachings he received from Christ."
Best to say, he befriended some of the 12 apostles, they personally received teachings
from Jesus Christ. Paul was also filled with the Holy Spirit, in order to write his incredible epistles.
Phebe was a faithful servant, not a deacon.
Paul calls her a deacon. Female prophets are mentioned as well, just no female pastors.
@@MonarchPoolPlaster I’ve spoken extensively on the meaning of the original word used in that text; it’s translated “servant” not deacon.
There were prophetesses, which is completely different from being a Priest, Bishop or Pastor.
How do you explain the use of ‘διάκονον’ when Paul introduces Phoebe?
@@kateralton365 The word that Paul uses in verse 1 to describe Phoebe (diakonos, “servant”) is the same word he uses elsewhere to mean the church officer (“deacon”). Due to this, many have argued Phoebe should be regarded as a deacon of the church in Cenchreae.
@@omarsheriffkaptan , thanks for your comment, can you help me understand why it’s translated as ’servant’ here, but deacon elsewhere?
Was Phoebe ordained as a deacon in the early church?
@@beren1898 The same word for deacon is also translated servant. Paul refers to government officials as servants; should we consider them "deacons" too? Guy Waters has a decent article dealing with the two passages in question (Romans 16 & 1 Timothy 3) and why the Scripture does not give approval to female deaconesses. It's a good read. There are Christians who hold to the authority of Scripture come down on both sides of this issue.
Unbiblical unless u look into the Satanic NIV Bible
Read it (Dr Waters' article). It reads - Here is what we already believe, so let me prooftext some things to back that up.
No, the 7 were ordained. Phoebe was not ordained. She is referred as deacon while the 7 were referred as ordained to do certain tasks.
🙄🙄🙄 there is so much read into the text. She is a novelist!
Thanks! Have a good day!! Do not get left behind = P-R-O-M-O-S-M !!!
