- A short 8 min action film of various slam door trains flying through Wimbledon in an evening peak around early 2004. Lots of VEP's, CIG's and CEP's feature !!.
(Also features the announcements of the late Phil Sayer).
Sorry for the picture quality. - Кино
I remember how loud those bogies were on the Mk1 carriages when they sped through those platforms back then, they were very loud like hell! True Classic they were then! Nice Video!
Cannot believe that in less than a day from now 2004 will be 20 years ago…railways in the 90s & 00s were far more interesting than now
This was the peak of the rush hour ! 17.00 to 19.00 ! At Clapham Junction after the station the lines were 18 tracks across at one point as you had the lines to London Victoria as well !! If you looked across from one side to the other between 17.00 and 19.00 a train would pass every 3 seconds !
I grew up in Dorking so Wimbledon was where it got really interesting - tube trains too. (Well.. Raynes Park but you know..). I loved it if I had to change trains there. I can’t believe it was still this familiar as recent as 2004.
My mums family lived in Surbiton which was THE station for me back then. Lots of speeding VEPs and CIGs and all
Sorts. Thanks for sharing this. Fab!
Always love watching the "shoe arc" between the contact shoes and third rail on Southern Region EMUs and LU stock!
Great footage of proper workhorses
Thanks for posting this. Got some good Wessex Electric action in there too!
Had to include the pigs as they had the 4REP motors so sounded just as awesome as all the other slammers. It's such a pity and a terrible waste that SWR are going to scrap them as they are lovely units to travel in ☹
Thanks Jamie's railway clips. I do recall it were a cold evening and all the slammers were drawing some juice big time. They did look awesome when in full power !!
@@jamiesbusrailandannoucneme1667 . I have about 10 hours of footage of the slam doors. Filmed as much as I could before they became a thing of the past. It's just a pity about the pic quality
@@jamiesbusrailandannoucneme1667 it were recorded on a Sony handycam of all things !!
January 2004
What a nice video😉
Love the slam door era, looks great place for trainspot back in those days. Shame SWT have Wimbledon Station to put fence on Platform Sides where fast trains go through. kinda robs the joy of filming fast trains when they they past the station at high speed!
Thanks for posting this I wanted to see some slam door trains
Thanks. I can't believe that I filmed that over 15 years ago !!. My only regret is that the quality is pretty poor for a camcorder. If only the trains were still about now, the picture quality on our smartphones would be fantastic
@@GNTel313 Yeah the age is important I was born in 2007 so to find out anything pre-2010 I can only watch videos
Some class 411, 421, 423 and 442 (used to be Wessex electrics)
The class 442 reminds me of the underground trains Central line and Waterloo and city line
Did anyone spot the DOC, (door on a catch), on the up 4VEP at around 4:50 😲. Guess someone didn't do their job properly !!
Many a day i used to sit on the footbridge and take down the numbers and also get a hoot from the drivers. and when we used go to Chessington and catch the no 18
One of the slam door Trains stopped though.
Nice.
Yes..... the good, old days !
