    Great stuff.
I’ll bet it’s on your list sometime after the space heater…the critical AC draws in many systems is often aircon/heat pumps which are usually hard wired and may be 240v. They also have different power demand through the day/night cycle. That should be a really good lesson when you get to it. (Glad you are doing this series step-by-step!)
Another thought, not video related-yet(?)-is the marine requirement differences. I hope y’all will start offering, for example, tinned copper 1426 rated wire and tinned copper busbars (the Lynx master switch busbar link is plain copper).
Kudos for the great teaching and info. 👍👍

Thanks for tuning in! Air conditioning will be covered in lesson 2.6 (after space heaters) and we actually brought in some industry experts in the HVAC field to share some additional insights into air conditioning power consumption. It's already live in the ad-free academy (academy.explorist.life), but I'm excited for that one to go live here as there's a ton of really good insight in that one.
We plan to offer tinned wire/lugs late 2024 or early 2025. We are building a new warehouse that 'should' be finished this fall (but we all know how construction projects go) so we will have more space for those spools since we basically have to double the amount of space in our warehouse to offer tinned hardware/wire as we need to effectively double our SKUs: Multiplus 3k Wiring Kit vs Multiplus 3k Wiring Kit (Tinned), for example.

Hey Nate love your videos 😍. We recently bought a campervan and luckily it was built off grid for us. We have a 12v setup with 2x 100amp batteries (UK) we have a mini computer powered by 12v and I have a mini projector that is 12v split off the same wire. Then we have usb with over 3000 retro games via batocera (atari, amiga, etc) that is powered by the computer. We don't need our inverter (4000w) our 600W solar tops it up each cloudy day. Love it just thought I would share as an alternative if any one else was interested in a less power hungry option. .

Very useful.. Instead of a console, 'Ill try an Airfryer instead and come back with the results. I'll try it on 230V from the house supply and 230V from my Renogy 3000w inverter in my camper. I presume the results will be the same - but it will be an interesting test.

I checked our systems recently. Very interesting. 32” insignia nonsmart tv uses 33 watts. 46” nonsmart Westinghouse tv 66ish watts, 65” smart tv 110ish watts.
Don’t remember the game consoles exactly except the original ps3 is a power hog. If you can do your gaming on a nintendo switch it’s great: around 18watts! At least when I tested it.

Another cool test is to add say a 12v watt meter between the 12v battery and the inverter and then your 230v/110v meter between the inverter and xbox. You can then find out the real world efficiency of your inverter.
FYI A steam desk will draw 25W full tilt. This is probably the best device to use for gaming is you want a balance of power consumption and graphical performance.
Nate, have you ever done a video where you talk about the tradeoff between buying more energy efficient devices vs buying cheaper less efficient devices and just spending the money you saved on extra battery capacity?

Xiaomi A1 TV 42 inch - depending on brightness level, between 40 and 80 Wats of usage (no point in running TV at its brightest during evening / night). So far no console. I just wish the TV had brightness buttons on remote for quick access, like very oldschool CRT screens did...

Go ahead and convert that to watts for me and then do the calculation for watt hours based on how long you use it per day.

Thanks Nate. I've been ditching the AC to DC bricks for DC to DC step-up converters. It seems 19v at some amperage is common for laptops, monitors, sound bars, etc. have you been trying this? I wonder how much power is being saved. (PS, we don't have an inverter yet).

    • @EXPLORISTlife
      @EXPLORISTlife  2 месяца назад +1

Realistically, the percentage saved in going to be in the single digit percentages; which in the game of 'close enough' power audits, isn't worth bothering with the math on as that will be accounted for in any 'safety buffer' added to the total daily watt hours used calculated at the end of the audit.

If you're playing on battery would be best to get a Steam Deck, ROG Ally or a Nintendo switch

120v Grounding Question: I've just installed my Victron Multiplus 3k inv/charger and I'm wondering how 120 ground works when I'm not connected to shore power. Is my 120v ground wire, grounded, to the vehicle battery through the Victron Multiplus, or is it ungrounded until I'm connected to shore power?

Great question, and that's definitely something we will cover in more depth when we get to the 'inverters' chapter of this academy. Stay tuned!
Note: That all system designs found at shop.explorist.life show/include proper grounding.

It's an average when im gaming. I have a 4.4kw solar with a 32kw battery bank on my Rv. Yes, I do run a space heater on the 750w setting when I have the power. Burn about 60 lbs propane during the winter. Northern California
