Sea Fishing UK - How I use my Garmin GPS/Sounder and Livescope to find fish | The Fish Locker

  • Here on the south coast of the UK we have suffered with Strong to Gale force Easterly weather for nearly a month. This weather is not good for fishing. Here I show you how I use my Garmin electronics to help me find fish and navigate the seabed. I anchor in a few locations, showing underwater footage and battle the wind and try to find some fish.
The equipment I have fitted to the boat is a Garmin Echomap Ultra 122sv with a 56UHD transponder and Panoptix livescope LVS32. The conditions were not ideal for filming, but if you found the video helpful and interesting and would like to me show more. Please leave a message in the comments.

Great video - thank you. It is great to be able to visualise what we should be seeing on a fish finder. The instructions that come with most ff/plotters are very vague and it really needs someone, experienced, stood next to you to point out all the things that are easily overlooked. Your video was a great help to identify things that I have not noticed before!

Hi Jon, Thank you for another informative and interesting video. Your absolute delight at even the smallest hint of wildlife is inspiring. I know what you mean about them Easterlies. Was booked on a wrecking trip out of Weymouth the other week that got cancelled at the last min, so ended up on Boscombe pier getting Blown about. Oh well never mind, as they say; "The worst days fishing is better than the best day at work, unless you're heaving you gut up over the side!" Have a good one man and keep the vids coming.

Brilliant video John, I've always wondered where the fish are in relation to my kayak when I see them on the finder. I now understand that I couldn't work that out unless I have a live scope. This is the first video I have watched in RUclips that has explained the reason why I have no clue as to weather they are to the left or right of me. It's done my head in. 😂😂 Now I understand I need a live scope to pinpoint them. Great video and much appreciated. 👍💪🎣

You don’t absolutely need all this kit, but it does help when the fishing is difficult. 👍🏻

I have been catching fish and doing pretty well at it before this kit was even invented. So it's not essential, this is just how I use what's available to assist me. Experience and knowledge will always be more valuable. 😉

Nice one as always thanks John. Unlikely I will ever own a boat but very interesting information. Your Garmin is a fine bit of Kit! Some nice size Mackerel still about - we were out shore fishing the Tamar on Monday evening - only a couple of small Macker and loads of tiny Wrasse. Has Jim done a cook up with Mackerel? Be interesting to see what he conjures up! Stay safe & well - Dave.! 🎣🎣👍👍

Those dreaded eastly winds. Been looking to go shore fishing where I am. Great, sunny weather, but the wind has just been constant of late (North coast). It's just been unfishable. I mainly lure fish, but conditions are making it impossible. Here's to the calmer days, and the influx of fish towards the summer. Tight lines bud and onto the next.

I use both Panoptix or Livescope depending on the situation. These systems are game changers and actually concern me . Here these combined with cameras are the go to systems for ice fishing. Small bodys of water here will pay a heavy price
