Don’t you just hate it when you’re thinking ‘bout your crush minding your own business and suddenly the old gods just had to make you the oracle of the new world
Ugh, I know! Happened to me just last week. I swear, the old ones are just so needy. I’m like, “I can be your oracle from 9-5. I don’t can’t do the night shift.” I think I’m going to be getting the offer again tonight.
Right? I mean their worker rights are so last millennium, can you believe that they don’t even cover vocational diseases such as a slow spiral into unending madness? It’s like they don’t even value you as a worker and it’s not like they’re the only ones hiring, am I right?
@@waterunderthebridge7950 Yeah, you totally are right! Did you hear the rumours that covid-19 was their response to the coffee guy getting Cthulhu a regular latte instead of one with that 1800s-brand soul coffee creamer he likes? Dude didn't even get a chance to apologize. And the workplace environment is just too hostile. I can't be typing up pamphlets for the old ones all day when I have to sacrifice a sheep and a raven for every twenty pages I print. Like, come on, can't we just do what the other branches are doing and upgrade to pigs? Way easier to manage, and at least a little more modern. And don't even get me started on that transfer, Anubis, from shipping. I'd say it's always the new guys that are the hardest to put up with, but have you HEARD is voice? It's like chalkboards grinding on printing presses! Sick leave, vocational diseases, reverse pregnancies. We should at least get time off, if not compensation. Like, I'm getting barely above minimum wage here, eight hours a day not including unpaid overtime. I even heard the covert Asgard department is getting wage cuts. They get, like, less pay than minimum wage! A little understanding would be nice, yeah? Gosh, I mean, I can't find any postings near me for similar jobs, and resume is basically centralized on propaganda, ritual sacrifice instruction, possession, being a part-time oracle, and knitting. Not a lot of jobs near me looking for those skill sets, but I'm sure I could find another location at least. Maybe a rival company?
@Water Under The Bridge Hey, so, I did get the offer again. Any advice how to turn it down without prematurely bringing upon us the end times? I feel like I should quit, but don't know how best to bring it up.
Cthulhu and the Great Old Ones: Was that guy bothering you? Girl: "nods" Cthulhu and the Great Old Ones: hohoho he is a DEAD MAN! HOW DARE HE MAKE OUR LITTLE VESSEL CRY?!
If I could get a brief explanation on what exactly Cthulhu is that would be amazing!! I really want to understand these references and I looked into the stuff after I first listened to this song, but I honestly didn’t understand it! I only figured it was some type of fantasy monster or mythological creature but if I could get a better insight on it, it would be much appreciated!
@@clever8117 Cthulhu is a deity that was created by H.P. Lovecraft- which was said to resemble an octopus [hence the tentacles being a reference] and a dragon. In the short story that Cthulhu is created for, the city he was said to reside in was R'lyeh [which is referenced in the lyrics]. There's probably more that references Cthulhu in the song- but those were the ones I could think of off the top of my head. I recommend looking up Cthulhu if you want to know more! Wikipedia is a good place for surface knowledge, but you can always try to get your hands on the original short story.
i know this comment is years old but i was reading this and something occurred to me. In the second part of the song she states "another *sleepless* night to face alone" ...so..is she ever actually asleep?
@@MadieNevermind that's the thing, it has already blurred together. She went from sleeping with whispered dreams to being wide awake fully aware of it. In between It would be one of those nights where you don't sleep but your mind in a fugue state still feels like its dreaming.

honestly i'm in love with this story. poor girl overwhelmed with stress, in love with a boy who doesn't love her back and suffering from horrible premonitions every night. lucky for her, in the end when the old gods came they actually set her up with the lad she liked! ...or maybe they just took pity on her and gave her a dream of him
I feel like it would make more sense for her to have gone insane from her premonitions and is only imagining the two of them together. The Elder Gods are all completely alien and beyond human understanding, I doubt they would play matchmaker or feel pity.
There's two ways to interpret this. The more likely one is that after the old ones came the girl was 'freed' from her torment as she was killed together with her loved one. But seeing as the old ones are communicating with her every night and showing her glimpses of the future it is likely that she isn't human. She's unnaturally pale, hasn't slept for probably years and tentacles with eyes come out of her portrait. If not a servant of an old one, she could maybe be a fragment of one, or maybe one of their offspring disguised as human? I don't know a lot about cosmic horror, but it's not completely impossible and if that was the case maybe in the end she got to keep her human as a pet? Or at least to provide her with genetic information.
I like how, towards the end, when you think she has a happy ending, You realize, that everytime the tentacles are brought up on screen she's always describing her visions or dreams, her nightmares. So when it's saying something arguably like a good ending, you think to yourself "Wow, she totally went bonkers"
She's making reference to Lovecraftian horrors which often had tentacles and other cephalopod features, and Lovecraftian gods have the side effect of insanity because the human mind can't comprehend them and people anywhere near an LC God will hear voices, see visions of old ones, and the whole shebang *So yeah she joined the Cult of Cthulu at the end*
Before that though she said she was wide awake tonight meaning this time she wasn't sleeping yet was seeing her visions in reality meaning the old ones had finally come and the visions came true, which probably had something to do with her giving in to the whispers due to having her heart broken which made her no longer want to resist as she did before by thinking of the guy she loved. So she gives in to her connection with the old ones which for some reason was what they needed to wake up and giving in to such a connection would naturally result in gaining a large amount of power due to how insanely strong the old ones which at that point she could through sheer power make the one she loved hers as it is unlikely she was even still entirely human at the point and as such would have power far beyond what any mortal could gain.
My interpretation of this is what’s given in the song: the girl has unrequited love and because of that she gets heartbroken, and if you’ve read _“The Call of Cthullu”_ you’d know that that’ll make her really easy to manipulate and influence. As mentioned in a line from the story; “When, after infinities of chaos, the first men came, *the Great Old Ones spoke to the sensitive among them by moulding their dreams;* for only thus could Their language reach the fleshly minds of mammals.” So her getting heartbroken alone was enough for Cthullu to enter her mind and manipulate her to worship him - and it’s working. In one verse of the song, it mentions what she sees and hears in her dreams that all range from: “[…] whispers of the stars aligned (referencing how when the stars come in alignment, The Great Old Ones will come back to rule humanity) it rises up and breaks the tide (I’m assuming she’s taking about R’lyeh, one of the sunken cities of The Old Ones, resurfacing) to prophecies and valentines in waking up in the end times (how it was mentioned in _“The Call of Cthullu”_ that The Great Old Ones will wake up in the end times to rule again).” It also mentions dreams - more specifically, nightmares - that she keeps having. That is one tactic The Great Old Ones use to communicate; “[…] Their mode of speech was transmitted thought. Even now They talked in Their tombs.” It's even heavily implied that, as you notice before the song gets creepy, she describes the sun setting, implying how day is transitioning to nighttime and that's when the creepy verses happen - her nightmares of R'lyeh and Cthullu. She’s dreaming of R’lyeh and hearing Cthullu’s voice ringing in her ears, probably of the words “Cthullu” and “fhtagn” until she finally remembers the entire chant (“Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn.” which translates to “In his house at R’lyeh dead Cthullu waits dreaming.” ). This routine keeps repeating until the last verses starting from “Suddenly the routine breaks” where she just let Cthullu’s influence take over, making her a confirmed worshipper of the cult by then. I also saw parallels of that earlier line to Henry Wilcox’s similar experience with the visions. He had gone from receiving similar nightmares and deliriums until he recovered from his illness, not even having any questions or concerns about what happened to him. I’m assuming she probably had the same symptoms as Wilcox until she finally just stopped fighting it and accepted it, explaining how in the last verses she just started seeing delusions of her and her love interest being together. Cthullu offered her what she wanted and in turn, she will worship him so he can wake up again and rise from R’lyeh.
The references in this song to _“The Call of Cthullu”_ is so clear even in the title itself; “He who sleeps beneath”. Even the tentacles surrounding her! It has Lovecraft’s _Cthullu_ all over it - and I love it.
Steampianist hey steam, I loved the song! It’s really beautiful. Quick question, where did “Through the Looking Glass” go? It was one of my favorites and i think it was deleted? If it is deleted, will it be back up any time? Thanks.
Me four years ago: Oh wow another song by Steampianist, I wonder if it sounds amazing or not Me now: MY GOD IT'S CRUSHING MEEE TANGLED 'ROUND MY BODY LIKE COUNTLESS CHAINS, BLAACK SEAS SPLIT BY TWISTED SPI-
I like how her eyes look so shaky and anxious in the beginning, and the more resigned and tired she gets the more easily she seems to give up to the influence of the old gods. Her small smile when she praises her new gods... It was almost like she was unknowningly fighting a mental battle she clearly lost. Creeps up my spine. This is such a good song. From the lyrics to art, honestly lovely and unsettling.
I would say the Battle was with her human nature. Worshipping the old gods freed her, it was a victory. The only enemy was her hesitation, which she beat. That is why she is in the end so joyful, she finally won.
Start of the video: "Why he doesnt love me?!" End of the video: "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" This is impressive. I like it a lot!
After 3 months, I realize this girl has an incredible energy to her, she's like a shakespearean character, going from "I hope he loves me." to "If I summon one of the Old Ones, I'll be rewarded with his company for eternity."
So I sort of just assumed for a while that the lyrics were mostly metaphors on, y'know, unrequited love, but then I actually paid attention to them. MY GOD! I NOW BELIEVE THE COMING OF THE OLD ONES SET ME FREE
I like how her eyes portray her emotions when she sings In the beginning, and between dreams, her eyes are still. Almost portraying happiness or content. When she starts to talk about her dreams her eyes are shaking a little. Fear fills her heart. When she talks about what she sees her eyes are looking everywhere. Like she is absolutely terrified and paralyzed with fear. Then at the end, when the world falls into chaos and she seems to be with her love her eyes are still. Like she has completely gone insane and lost her mind.
Don’t you hate when your dad is a eldritch god and he just like,,, ENDS THE WORLD when you’re trying to confess to your crush!??! It’s so embarrassing!
I've never been in love I've never been in a relationship I've never been betrayed But I FELT this song Steampianist always knows how to touch my heart What a psychological surgeon❤️
Ok, here we go. We gotta girl. She's lovestruck, and she has dreams of the old ones' awakening. They're trying to make her one of their followers and shows what'll happen in the end times. But she's able to resist and never finishes her dreams of armageddon 'cause she draws strength of will from her love and stuff. She swoons less and less the more casual and impersonal the relationship gets. It gets to the point where she doesn't even need to sleep to get visions. She decides to confess her love at this point, thinking he'll help without realizing but he falls for someone else. She's heartbroken and weak at this point, so the big bads manage not only to keep her from breaking away from her visions and dreams, but also peep into her mind and tempt her into obedience with what she wants most by the end of it. Now she's a member of the cult of C'thulu and will either kill or indoctrinate her love to make SURE he's got a spot in the afterlife with her. Touching and tragic.
@@tdthedevilsrighthand712 I had an ex that dressed like that. It's not like we lost the ability to wear certain kinds of clothes at some point in the past.
I think she completely retreats into the fantasies in her dreams with the help of Cthulu's influence on her dreams. My reasoning is that when she's says "I'm wide awake tonight" she's actually completely under his influence to the point that she thinks she's actually awake. She gets to now live in her own world, "set free" by Cthulu.
A few people can resist the whispers of the ancients, but only because they had 2 elements in their mind, something to return and will, this poor girl had both, but, unfortunally, the person who she loved never correspond her fellings, and so, the ancient know this aperture in her spirit, and, like all the gods that want to come, he twisted her love with a promise. She didn´t accept the deal in first instance, but, while the guy who wants sitll be unattainable, the god whisper to break their mind, and in the end, The ancient win, making the unique thing that could save her turn in her ruin, she "fall" in love with the god, possibly making forget or destroy the lover of the girl. They will come one day, but in this word, these words were made reality "the love change the people". i hope that she enjoy her dream, cuz the word that fall in their tentacles, no longer will survive. Great song, i love it. Edit: thx for the likes, i understand that you also love the theories that are born from a song about love and the end of mankind
I'm not in HP books, (i never have the chance to read) but i think that maybe Cthullu's broder, Kthanid, could put her into a dream, (because it's how he deal with his enimies) so she is an eternal dream, to stay away from Cthullu's influence
6:01 i love how the cosmic truths flooding what's left of her mind let her suddenly know he name of the sunken city Cthulu and friends were stuck inn for all these eons
God this video is great. Even ignoring the top tier lyrics, just the visuals are genius, how at the end the girl is no longer scared of her visions and is in fact happy, her eyes are no longer shaking, hinting at the fact that she fully excepted this vision as reality.
I think Cthulhu´s just using her to free him. The line "My God! I now believe the coming of the old ones set me free" is a good sign that he is manipulating her to free him. I mean if you know "Call of Cthulhu" the original story of Cthulhu you see some interesting things you can reflect on this lyrics, like the dreams some people had in which they heard voices and stuff and a cult of people, which are thinking of Cthulhu as the one and only god and want him to rule over the world or even destroy it to make a "better" one. And in the end of the story they set Cthulhu free so he came out of the temple, where he was sleeping for hundreds of years, just because they opened it and just because they were to curious about what´s inside of the temple. That all was achieved just by Cthulhu appearing in dreams of people and making them drive insane, cause he kept appearing in there dreams talking to them and they´re going insane anyways be just looking at him. Because it wasn´t just one incident of a person describing him but many more, people became curios and wanted to find out what this all is about, so after a bit of research and stuff they found a temple just right in the ocean, where they set him free. That leads me to the thought that she might be one of the people, that are going insane cause he´s appearing in their dreams and a future cult member and that he wants to be set free by them just like in the original story. And I think she´s an easy victim to influence cause she just got friendzoned and is crying all the time. It´s just: "Hey little girl, I can make a world were you can be with him forever." And she´s just like: "Hell yeah, that´s all I want." And easy deal.
For some reason I like to imagine that Nyarlathotep is reading this comment and getting angry because he is "the manipulative friend" in gods squad, not Cthulhu, and it's so darn beautiful
My God! I now believe! The coming of The Old Ones set me free! Black seas split by R´Lyeh´s spires. That was all I needed to read that old Cthu is the one responsible. Must say though, I didn´t know he liked humans that way, but is understandable
There's a song that discusses the call of Cthulhu and Madness. It is called Unrequited Love and He Who Sleeps Beneath. It is one of my favorite songs, especially because I think it describes myself very accurately. Not the part of grippening madness per se, but everything else is pretty close. I'm going to explain something to you that I explained to my mother when I mentioned this song to her. She didn't know what the Call of Cthulhu was or who HP Lovecraft was. So I had to explain something that I wasn't myself very educated on in order for it to make some ounce of sense. Basically, from my current knowledge, the Call of Cthulhu is about this squid-headed deity. He will bring about chaos and the end of the world. The call of Cthulhu is a madness or the knowledge of this deity and how to summon him. Now I own the whole series at this time of writing, I have not yet finished the series. So I will learn more about it. However, I do know that the easiest people to become consumed by this madness and knowledge are people who are at their lowest point in their lives, people who aren't all there in the first place, and the heartbroken. I would ask you to now look up the lyrics to the song. I'd like you to follow along by reading them with my explanation if you can. The song Unrequited Love is about this girl. The madness exists at the edge of her mind. She goes about her normal school day and encounters a boy that she has feelings for. She wants to express these feelings, but for whatever reason cannot. It will be revealed what these feelings are in a moment. The song talks about their encounters together and then it switches to her getting ready for bed, asking to be saved from her dreams. Suddenly, tendrils and spikes grip the edge of her imagination. She is wrapped up in vines of darkness and whispering stars circle her speaking of terrifying futures. This pressure and amount of information is crushing her to pieces. Her eyes are forced open into watching these terrible things, and she cannot get any rest. The only thing that she finds comfort in would be the possibility of love and comfort from this boy. Someone who will care for her. Someone she adores and trusts. The thought of this person is the only thing that gets her through these awful night terrors. In my mind, she has probably envisioned waking up during a nightmare and turning over towards this boy who is there to reassure, hold her, and comfort her that everything is alright. She wakes up, relenting about the fact that she was alone to face the nightmares. Asking why this boy couldn't just be by her side. It's because they're only friends. In fact, they're not even friends, she's just been pretending. Suddenly, she's determined to confess her love to this person who matters so much to her. And then she sees him. And he loves someone else. She doesn't hold this resentment against you. She's moreso disappointed in herself for not getting to you faster. She's failed, and it's her fault. You've, I mean he, did nothing wrong. She cries herself to sleep, and prepares for the rest of the night. The whispers are louder, and most, if not all are unintelligible. The pressure and knowledge are worse than before. Crushing her and ripping her apart at the same time. Now, this is where it changes for me. I differ from the song at this point. First, I'll finish explaining this song, then I'll get to my explanation. Suddenly, everything is still. The whispers come and go. It's a new future, one where she and the boy are together. She is so happy that she sees the future she's thought about come to fruition and actuality. She envisions the two of them dancing together like fire underneath the creepy green moon. She's now grateful that she can see this vision in front of her. There's no need to be rational about anything, this is the thing that she wants. I assume at this point, at the end of the song, that she's accepted madness to take a hold of her mind. And then I guess she summons Cthulhu and the end of the world? Or she's really happy about the end of the world? I really need to go and read the books before I comment on this any further. However, I differ from the song as becoming really, really depressed. I begin to hate myself because I need to be accepted in order to exist happily. I have such an innate desire to be wanted, not necessarily useful, but wanted that when these notions are rejected, I can do nothing but grieve. I have so much love in my heart, and I'm alone with it, and I don't know what to do anymore. I can't use it on myself because I am a giver. I don't know what else to say about that subject other than I really like the song and it's my favorite.
Apparently someone out there read my mind and created the exact sort of song I would like the most. Lovecraftian references, but none so specific they'd ruin the horror? Check. Unrequited love? Check. Bittersweet melody? Check. Amazing.
My annual return to the best Valentines day song. So relatable you cant tell someone how you feel they end with some else but it all ends up ok in the end since the Outer Gods got your back
All I can say is: I can't wait! You said it might be more mellow than usual, but I don't mind at all. The artwork is beautiful, and I'm sure the song will be too.
i just kinda wanted to list what i love about this song, so uh - the clear inspiration from lovecraft and especially the call of cthulu makes my eldritch horror nerd brain scream /pos - beautiful and eerie instrumentals that give such a foreboding feeling to the song that's hard to find anywhere else - the dissonance between a simple story about a girl getting her heart broken and prophecies of the return of the old gods in the form of recurring nightmares - that little instrumental break after "i'm wide awake tonight" - the art, especially how her facial expressions change. i'm super fond of the fear in her face during the chorus, which turns to joy at the end. the way she's drawn is also super eerie and fits in really well with the rest of the song - that whole last verse?? yeah that's the good shit right there. especially "black seas split by r'lyeh's spires" bc again, eldritch horror nerd and hearing a direct reference to r'lyeh had me so hyped - the tentacles. no real reason i just think they're neat - she's pretty

I wanted to make artichoke dip. So I tried to get ahold of an artichoke, which was more difficult than you’d think. I was at the Entire Foods grocery store, and after asking the butcher for the 4th time where the artichokes were, altercations occurred, and security had to escort me out. I stubbed my toe on the way out. That happened every time I tried to purchase an artichoke. Not the security guard part, just the toe stubbing. Somewhere somehow, in any grocery mart, I go and stub my toe. It’s never the same toe, either. Sometimes big. Sometimes pinky. Sometimes that middle-left toe gets stubbed too. My feet hurt all the time. My doctor says it’s because I have scoliosis but I say you know what. It’s because I’m constantly stubbing my toes at grocery stores. I still want to make artichoke dip.
Everyone saying it's based off of the Call Of Cthulhu, which is it true but it also combines some elements from The Dreams In The Witch House where the main protagonist is terrified of sleeping because of the dreams he has caused by the Outer God Nyarlathotep and his disciple Keziah Manson and how it's written is very claustrophobic with him having a bad fever and that his hearing becomes more sensitive, you can feel the crushing terror and paranoia he has if he closes his eyes. I'd give the story a read
The storyline (from what I've gathered): A schoolgirl has a crush on this boy (0:10) and tries to confess to him multiple times, and ends up heartbroken (0:30). The boy notices her (0:44) and asks to walk with her. Eventually, nighttime comes (0:52), but the schoolgirl is afraid to go to sleep (1:07) due to her visions and nightmares (1:15), which are about Cthulu trying to seduce the schoolgirl to his cult (1:36). Although she is tempted to fall asleep (1:51), she distracts herself by thinking of her crush (2:03). Due to her fear, the schoolgirl ends up staying awake all night (2:23), and longs for her crush to be by her side (2:33). She reminds herself that they're only friends and nothing more (2:39), and therefore goes slightly berserk in her attempts to make her crush love her back (2:54). However, when the schoolgirl is about to confess, she sees the boy confessing to another girl (3:12). The schoolgirl becomes heartbroken (3:23) and Cthulu attempts to convert her into his cult again (3:33), this time outside of her dreams, but she still tries her best to stay awake (4:11). However, her visions of Cthulu are now constantly coming and going (5:08) and she starts seeing visions of her with her crush (5:18). She then accepts Cthulu's offer to join his cult, and does anything she can to try and bring the boy with her into the afterlife (5:30), now accepting her visions and nightmares (as you can see when she's smiling this time when the tentacles appear). Now she ends up going completely insane (5:51, you can see the subtitles change to all caps, representing her insanity) and learns that her accepting Cthulu's invitation helped her be with her love, even though she ended up going insane in the process, and forced him to love her.
The chorus parts kinda remind me of how you experience sleep paralysis. You can't move your body, though you can still move your eyes, look with fear at the hallucinations around you.
Nothing beats pure love... other than pure Eldrich power that is, straight from the tap that is! Man i got hit again with the Steampianist cravings and came back to this... I had forgotten how much I liked the transition at 1:35 it just sounds exactly like what she's probably feeling... i mean the line "My god it's crushing me!" just hits hard in general
Something I've noticed is that when Singer starts to lament about the "you" she mentions how they're "not even friends, it's just pretend" when it's evident that they are at least somewhat acquainted ("You" walks home with her and they take the same path to school very often, and "you" says "We're late" implying they were going the same way together) To me this leaves one of two options: 1. Girl was over analyzing initially 'cause she's moonstruck and they actually aren't close friends or 2. Girl's mental state has deteriorated so much thanks to Cthulhu's meddling that she's starting to doubt their friendship I'm more leaning towards 2 because it's more compelling--a way to show that she's becoming more dependent on her and her crush being together as an escape from her suffering, just so Cthulhu can swooce on in later and use said crush as a carrot on a string to lead the girl into the cult
I was brought here by searching "He who walks beneath the dreams and with a face of nothing but a triangle" and not what I was looking for but It is close enough! It was from an SCP too, "Daleport" which talked about Eldritch dieties doing a battle royal and you know dish it out with the abomination that follows them, you know the good stuff. My gods, I absolutely adore your work! Every time I need inspiration for writing short stories or poetry, I always listen to your songs. They're creepy and unsettling both lyrically and musically. And they put me in the right mindset, almost pulling me into a world of unhinged madness. Again, wonderful song as always. Happy Valentines Day!
Yes! Yes! Yes! You are my God! This song is just damn perfect! I do not find the words to describe my emotions. Music, story, Gumi's voice, art and this atmosphere! Thank you for such a gift!
I can't imagine it's pity that was taken on her - due to the fact that I cannot believe that such creatures would be capable of feeling things like pity to something as lowly as a human. Rather, I think she was placed into a dream state by the Old Ones, as clearly there is something about her that is innately important to them - she seems somewhat attuned to the Old Ones, or they were essentially royal jellying her into something they could use. Using her stress and a desire for a world where she gets the person she likes, they subdue her with a dream and use her as a transceiver, or something - as evidenced by the fact that she still has nightmares. She wasn't saved, she's merely a tool to further some incomprehensible goal.
Creatures of Lovecraft's stories usually takes control over people's bodies in order to learn as much info as they could about the primary civilization in a specific era (since they can time-travel) using these vessels. Tho they usually use scientists and artists and it is unlikely for them to stay for a long time in a school girl's body. In "The Call of Cthulhu", many people, especially those related to the arts and science, had dreams about R'lyeh and Ctulhu when he was awaken for a while from his slumber. But these people had literally zero impact on the Ancient Ones themselves, it was just their being sensetive to the "vibrations". The ones who actually woke the Great Ctulhu up were some sailors and they didn't really plan nor mean to do so. So I think it is safe to say that the protagonist of the song isn't strongly connected to the Ancient Ones. It seems that her mind was just broken.
This is so beautifully done! What a twist for a Valentines celebration. Not all lovers end up perfect or even end up at all and this sums up that hazardous truth that some love can be enforced, 'till death does them part.
To me it kind of sounds like: Ether her love was actually one of the old ones in disguise or In her sadness of seeing him with another girl she chooses to serve the old ones and uses their power to take him for herself
I finally got my first Lovecraft story today, Dagon, a story only about 5 pages long or so, and yet one that I loved word from word. It's hard to describe but his work is so connected to the ocean, the monsters from the depths of the ocean dark and bleak with budged eyes and dark scales, like something from the depths of the abyss amalgamated with a human, with their surroundings being a place of absolute rot, a piece of the world so alien to the sun, while the surface is clean and clear, devoid of all. I love it
Honestly I love everything about this song. The ambience, the sound, the art and most of all the concept! I never knew How much I wanted to hear a lovecraft-inspired lovesong

Wikipedia is a good place for surface knowledge, but you can always try to get your hands on the original short story.

honestly i'm in love with this story. poor girl overwhelmed with stress, in love with a boy who doesn't love her back and suffering from horrible premonitions every night. lucky for her, in the end when the old gods came they actually set her up with the lad she liked! ...or maybe they just took pity on her and gave her a dream of him
I feel like it would make more sense for her to have gone insane from her premonitions and is only imagining the two of them together. The Elder Gods are all completely alien and beyond human understanding, I doubt they would play matchmaker or feel pity.
Nah but Cthulhu WOULD reward the human to free Him from the prison of R'lyeh, so... its plausible
@@fernandofuentesmoreno5149 Which is not even really a reward. Cthulhu should change his policies tbh
@@fernandofuentesmoreno5149 maybe Cthulhu lets her and her crush die last, thats why they are standing together under a sickly green moonlight
This is officially my new favorite Lovecraftian horror song
I like how, towards the end, when you think she has a happy ending,
You realize, that everytime the tentacles are brought up on screen she's always describing her visions or dreams, her nightmares.
So when it's saying something arguably like a good ending, you think to yourself
"Wow, she totally went bonkers"
And the fact that she doesn't look scared of the tentacles anymore
Maybe that's good. Maybe this is the best ending she could have.
She's making reference to Lovecraftian horrors which often had tentacles and other cephalopod features, and Lovecraftian gods have the side effect of insanity because the human mind can't comprehend them and people anywhere near an LC God will hear voices, see visions of old ones, and the whole shebang
*So yeah she joined the Cult of Cthulu at the end*
@@ParadoxAAA that or she fell in love with *TENTACLE DADDY*
As mentioned in a line from the story; “When, after infinities of chaos, the first men came, *the Great Old Ones spoke to the sensitive among them by moulding their dreams;* for only thus could Their language reach the fleshly minds of mammals.”
So her getting heartbroken alone was enough for Cthullu to enter her mind and manipulate her to worship him - and it’s working. In one verse of the song, it mentions what she sees and hears in her dreams that all range from: “[…] whispers of the stars aligned (referencing how when the stars come in alignment, The Great Old Ones will come back to rule humanity) it rises up and breaks the tide (I’m assuming she’s taking about R’lyeh, one of the sunken cities of The Old Ones, resurfacing) to prophecies and valentines in waking up in the end times (how it was mentioned in _“The Call of Cthullu”_ that The Great Old Ones will wake up in the end times to rule again).”
It also mentions dreams - more specifically, nightmares - that she keeps having. That is one tactic The Great Old Ones use to communicate; “[…] Their mode of speech was transmitted thought. Even now They talked in Their tombs.”
It's even heavily implied that, as you notice before the song gets creepy, she describes the sun setting, implying how day is transitioning to nighttime and that's when the creepy verses happen - her nightmares of R'lyeh and Cthullu.
Thanks for this comment! The truth helps a lot for people who are not so familiar with Lovecraft

Touching and tragic.

whispers of the ancients, but only because they had 2 elements in their mind, something to return and will, this poor girl had both, but, unfortunally, the person who she loved never correspond her fellings, and so, the ancient know this aperture in her spirit, and, like all the gods that want to come, he twisted her love with a promise. She didn´t accept the deal in first instance, but, while the guy who wants sitll be unattainable, the god whisper to break their mind, and in the end, The ancient win, making the unique thing that could save her turn in her ruin, she "fall" in love with the god,

It´s just: "Hey little girl, I can make a world were you can be with him forever." And she´s just like: "Hell yeah, that´s all I want." And easy deal.
yes! the perfect theory
Wow thats a long comment. Interesting theory by the way and its probably right. It seems like a very cthulu thing to do.

This song is so biautiful and well written 😢 even after years I'll come back to listen
Check. Amazing.
Love the Lovecraftian twist at the end.
My annual return to the best Valentines day song. So relatable you cant tell someone how you feel they end with some else but it all ends up ok in the end since the Outer Gods got your back
I was already loving it and then 1:37 had me completely entranced and mesmerized and frankly a bit afraid haha. Absolutely amazing song and artwork!
All I can say is:
I can't wait! You said it might be more mellow than usual, but I don't mind at all. The artwork is beautiful, and I'm sure the song will be too.
Do set the reminder.
i just kinda wanted to list what i love about this song, so uh
- the clear inspiration from lovecraft and especially the call of cthulu makes my eldritch horror nerd brain scream /pos
- beautiful and eerie instrumentals that give such a foreboding feeling to the song that's hard to find anywhere else
- the dissonance between a simple story about a girl getting her heart broken and prophecies of the return of the old gods in the form of recurring nightmares
- that little instrumental break after "i'm wide awake tonight"
- the art, especially how her facial expressions change. i'm super fond of the fear in her face during the chorus, which turns to joy at the end. the way she's drawn is also super eerie and fits in really well with the rest of the song
- that whole last verse?? yeah that's the good shit right there. especially "black seas split by r'lyeh's spires" bc again, eldritch horror nerd and hearing a direct reference to r'lyeh had me so hyped
- the tentacles. no real reason i just think they're neat
- she's pretty
by chance are you a fan of bsd?

Mukuro wants to confess what she feels, but because of how her sister treats her, she have no self confidence.
She have constant nightmares of despair and war.
One day she decides to be brave, just to catch Makoto and Kirigiri kissing.
She breaks, decides to move on and keep helping her sister, the worst event in history happen and the world is destroyed.
In her last moments of life, when all the spears are piercing her body, she sees herself dancing with makoto, and she dies.
@@zeoxdragon Seems more like your fanfiction than spoilers, for the most part. Pretty sure nothing like this was mentioned in DR:IF or anywhere else. Doesn't really fit her either, I think this would have been more fitting for Kazuichi or Hiyoko and how they became Ultimate Despair, maybe. Better than the cheap brainwashing BS we got, at any rate.
I love the music
The lyrics
The art
EVERYTHING AAAAAAA
I love the drawing, Eleanor did a great work! I was so AAAA when i saw the notice, and so aaa when i saw that i could listen to it in 41 hours. Apart from that THIS IS SO COOL STEAMPIANIST RELEASED A NEW SONG!
hello!
is this Minecraft?
I love how the music intensifies even more at the end. Like the insanity and power of the old gods was fully released and the already eerie music became even more intense
I still want to make artichoke dip.
may cthulhu have pity on your soul.
Yikes man, sounds bad
the edginess of the song must be balanced with a comment like this, it's common sense between vocaloid artists
This story is as intriguing as having a tea party with Cthulhu somewhere.
The best part is that both are real things.

This song is both horrifying and wholesome somehow
Extremely well done like usual Steam. This one is very beautiful and painful at the same time
much love Jim
im pretty stupid to think this wouldn't be creepy
*well i was wrong*
(love it tho)
Everyone saying it's based off of the Call Of Cthulhu, which is it true but it also combines some elements from The Dreams In The Witch House where the main protagonist is terrified of sleeping because of the dreams he has caused by the Outer God Nyarlathotep and his disciple Keziah Manson and how it's written is very claustrophobic with him having a bad fever and that his hearing becomes more sensitive, you can feel the crushing terror and paranoia he has if he closes his eyes. I'd give the story a read
I love how her expression just changes ever so slightly!!
The storyline (from what I've gathered):
A schoolgirl has a crush on this boy (0:10) and tries to confess to him multiple times, and ends up heartbroken (0:30).
You did a very good job. Thanks to you I now understand the song. Good job.
Dude you're absolutely right
After I read that and the watched the video a few times I see
This song is a masterpiece
guess H.P. Lovecraft smiling at your Summarization
There was no mention of the crush’s gender so it can be up for your own interpretation.
Great song. I like the clever usage of silences.
The chorus parts kinda remind me of how you experience sleep paralysis. You can't move your body, though you can still move your eyes, look with fear at the hallucinations around you.
柔らかな雰囲気から不穏になっていき、絵の少女が苦しみ壊れていくのが凄く心に刺さりました素敵な曲を視聴させて下さってありがとうございます
I would use this song in Valentine's Day
Nothing beats pure love... other than pure Eldrich power that is, straight from the tap that is!
Man i got hit again with the Steampianist cravings and came back to this... I had forgotten how much I liked the transition at 1:35
it just sounds exactly like what she's probably feeling... i mean the line "My god it's crushing me!" just hits hard in general
Something I've noticed is that when Singer starts to lament about the "you" she mentions how they're "not even friends, it's just pretend" when it's evident that they are at least somewhat acquainted ("You" walks home with her and they take the same path to school very often, and "you" says "We're late" implying they were going the same way together)
To me this leaves one of two options:
1. Girl was over analyzing initially 'cause she's moonstruck and they actually aren't close friends
or 2. Girl's mental state has deteriorated so much thanks to Cthulhu's meddling that she's starting to doubt their friendship
I'm more leaning towards 2 because it's more compelling--a way to show that she's becoming more dependent on her and her crush being together as an escape from her suffering, just so Cthulhu can swooce on in later and use said crush as a carrot on a string to lead the girl into the cult
I'M SO EXCITED I LOVE YOUR SONGS
Thank you and this is my most sentimental song like ever

i legit discovered this song yesterday and i probably played this song over 4 times already 💀
Edit: hilly shift this is actually quite a spectacle of a coincidence!
最近たまたまこの曲を知り、曲の感じとかがもうめちゃくちゃ好きです
Fucking amazing vocals and I love the note variation in each word during the chorus it makes it feel more emotional and real
Thank you for such a gift!
plot twist, cthulhu went and had a nice coffee chat with mr. love-interest and he realized he liked her.
I'm so hyped boys! Valentines day is complete!
Can we talk about the art style!?
Like it looks soo goooood!!!!
This is so beautifully done! What a twist for a Valentines celebration. Not all lovers end up perfect or even end up at all and this sums up that hazardous truth that some love can be enforced, 'till death does them part.
The art is utterly beautiful, it really compliments the mood of the song. Nice work as always.
"THE RISING OF THE OLD ONES HAS SET ME FREE" I can't, this sounds like a bad joke I'd make lmao. Awesome song, forreal!
This art style is always so sweet and cute. Abstract/cartoony but filled with grit in between the outlines
love the victorian/edwardian look to the drawing:)

also the art looks amazing!
Follow the artist's twitter theyre amazing. Link in the description
3:07 "i saw you from afar... BULLSHIT. Why's your hand on her cheek?!" Is what i heard
To me it kind of sounds like:
Ether her love was actually one of the old ones in disguise
or
In her sadness of seeing him with another girl she chooses to serve the old ones and uses their power to take him for herself
I love it
I cringe at this comment but I like lovecraft so oh well, please laugh at me
