Omg always thought about recommending a John Carpenter episode! Would love to hear their thoughts! Damn what ep did raanan talk about about In the Mouth of Madness?
The podcast is so much more enjoyable for me when you guys are pointing out things you don't like rather than talking about things you do like. Bryan Cranston - great bit
That and Sunset Boulevard are his obvious classics and Double Indemnity and Lost Weekend are his significant early noirs. You might recognize the plot of Ace in the Hole from the early Simpsons episode "Radio Bart". Some Like it Hot is his well known sex comedy but I would recommend Irma La Douce before pursuing Seven Year Itch. It's the same principles as The Apartment but played more ridiculously in France with Lemmon as a cucked cop and Shirley as a tricky hooker.
I'll check that out though. Honestly I was blown away by the apartment I thought it held up pretty good. I thought it was going to be zany 60s comedy but it was funny, sad and melancholy. Hard thing to do to make that work. The scene in the bar when's drunk is great.
5:28 I’m such an idiot that when Joe said “He’s in two of the greatest TV shows of all time.” My first thought was genuinely “I had no idea Joe liked Malcolm in the Middle that much”
Joe, for the love of god, watch Craig Zahler's films -- BONE TOMAHAWK, BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99, and DRAGGED ACROSS CONCRETE. Those 3 movies deserve an episode from you and Pauline Whale.
If you like High Fidelity, check out Old Boyfriends. It's from 1979... it's directed by Joan Tewkesbury, who wrote Raanan's fave movie Nashville, and written by Paul Schrader.
Drink every time Raanan rips on a movie and then says he hasn’t really seen it right after. Don’t drive obvi. lol He looks good tho - prolly doing intermittent not eating burritos. I need to start doing that. The intermittent part. I already eat the burros. I’m pissed at myself for being so hooked on this show. After the first few epis I added Raanan to my list of celebrities I’d decline a dinner invite too. But now i’d have to think about it - if List is coming Im in cuz we could talk about PJ .hopefully they know how great the movie Arthur is. And Truman Show. Btw to their question, comedy doesn’t hold up as well as it relies more heavily on truth, discovery and surprise. All more difficult to repeat and do again as the humans/time gain experience and an altered perspective. Thx for the pod guys. Go get em toys! “What’s that chief?” uh, do what the kid said
1995: dead man walking, 12 monkeys, heat, se7en, usual suspects, kids, Apollo 13, Braveheart, leaving Las Vegas, casino, clueless, to die for, Mighty Aphrodite, crimson tide, outbreak, die hard 3, desperado, clockers, brothers McMullen, Billy Madison
Watched that almost yesterday. Liked it but still a little confused. I suppose it's a 'happy ending' because they found the virus but I want to interpret the scientists intentions more nefariously. I also want to interpret a lot of what happened only happening because of happened. Like there was infinite timeline where this played out but this was the most cyclical one
First Karate Kid for old/young. Going back in time to be on the set of The Wizard Of Oz. Heard some crazy stories about that one. Would be fun to be a fly on the wall.
Joe you and Kevin Ryan should do a pod just about the best Chicken Parms in NY, PA, NJ. I mean you guys are already eating them. Might as well let us watch.
Would love a John Carpenter episode. Especially Halloween and The Thing! Love the show guys! Would love to hear both of your Favorite Carpenter scores also?
I could be wrong but I think that was the British promising freedom in the War of 1812, not the American Revolution. And then I think they did give freedom to at least some of the slaves who joined their side, and gave them land in Trinidad or something. Again, could be wrong, but I remember reading that recently when reading about the verses of the Star Spangled Banner left out of the national Anthem.
Before watching, I’ve been thinking Bryan Cranston might kind of stink. He was PHENOMENAL in Breaking Bad. All time great performance. He was good on TV sitcoms. However, in movies over the last 10 years he’s been pretty awful a bunch of times. His performance in Flags of our Fathers was embarrassingly bad. It genuinely felt like an SNL parody. Steve Carell was also in that and is another one who was born to play one role and sucks otherwise. He really dials it up over-the-top in dramas.
Did u guys shit on Fear and loathing in Las Vegas? I mean it's such a faithful adaptation. Maybe u arnt a fan of the source material. benicio del Toro is incredible in it. Like truly. When hes hanging out of the car asking that couple if they wanna buy smack is one of my favorite movies scenes ever
Raanan turning down a girl for not taking the snakebite is hilarious. He is so unattractive. What a fool. Where there not other comics Joe could have done this podcast with?
To comment for the 4th time I wanna chime in on the set question I would like to be on the set of the Dark Knight and stare at Heath Ledger and be like “how fucked up is this guy???” Sorry I find a podcast I like and I listen to it like four times in a row it helps me get through the work day and not kill myself
Not being silly, I just was thinking "Monday without Joe and ranaan makes me wanna KILL myself commit suicide" and it was like 13 minutes ago I was thinking that it was miraculously uploaded
Maybe the only legitimate candidates for actually and total "cancellation" . . . . Ps. Just because someone or something is popular doesn't necessarily mean that they're terrible or over rated.
Have you guys ever seen Jacques Tati stuff? Playtime is my favorite comedy ever made. I know it sounds pretty gay and pretentious to say that but legitimately it’s the most joyful experience I’ve ever had watching a comedy. Interested in your thoughts on that.
Thank you guys. I was just thinking, “How am I possibly going to do this hour of work I have to do. Maybe I’ll just quit my job and kill myself.” But now with this on in the background I think I can do it. I owe you both a bj. Thanks for saving my life and career.
Where is there always someone who calls a distinctly good actor a poor one? This is purely based on their own personal annoyance level but not on actual skill and craft.
This is my favorite podcast & I listen to pods 9 hours a days at work.. keep em coming cunts. Guy Ritchie at some point? Ari Aster? David Lynch perhaps?
Worst nudity has got to be the beginning of Nocturnal Animals...After about 60 seconds I literally said outloud to the screen "Go fuck yourself" and turned it off.
Holy moly! An ep when we didn’t think we’d get one. Fantastic!
John Carpenter Episode!! Raanan is right about In the Mouth of Madness being great.
Omg always thought about recommending a John Carpenter episode! Would love to hear their thoughts! Damn what ep did raanan talk about about In the Mouth of Madness?
This has become one of my favorite podcasts to look forward to every week. Thank you joe and ranaan.
Even 2 years later- still holds up. True geniuses.
Cranston was good in Drive I thought
Lol at Raanan giving away that Joe's working with Louis on his film. I had a feeling that was the case, but exciting to see it confirmed.
The podcast is so much more enjoyable for me when you guys are pointing out things you don't like rather than talking about things you do like. Bryan Cranston - great bit
Brian Cranston was phenomenal in breaking bad.
Hot take
Controversial. Easy throwing around your wild opinions
this made my night! excited to listen tomorrow at work
Same!
No sopranos and no breaking bad for joe siskel list! Queef up your palette Joey!!
6:13
That last “argh!” had me in stitches haha
S. Craig Zahler rules! You gotta check out his last film "Dragged Across Concrete" with Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn.
Zahler is great stuff, the speech Vaughn gives about creamer in the convience store really resonates with me.
I'd like to hear you guys talk about Robert Eggers' movies The Lighthouse and The Witch
Ive been doing a billy wilder run because that's always been a big Blindspot for me. Loved The Apartment
That and Sunset Boulevard are his obvious classics and Double Indemnity and Lost Weekend are his significant early noirs. You might recognize the plot of Ace in the Hole from the early Simpsons episode "Radio Bart". It's the same principles as The Apartment but played more ridiculously in France with Lemmon as a cucked cop and Shirley as a tricky hooker.
@@funlesbian loved double indemnity and sunset. Ace in the hole was incredible too. Seems very current.
I'll check that out though. Honestly I was blown away by the apartment I thought it held up pretty good. I thought it was going to be zany 60s comedy but it was funny, sad and melancholy. Hard thing to do to make that work. The scene in the bar when's drunk is great.
Thank you both for the fantastic bonus ep!
first well performed "cut" at the end. Well done
Love any Joe List podcast.
5:28
I’m such an idiot that when Joe said “He’s in two of the greatest TV shows of all time.” My first thought was genuinely “I had no idea Joe liked Malcolm in the Middle that much”
I love those Zahler films but I feel like they wouldn't be Joe's taste. I thought dragged across concrete was a masterpiece.
Heck yeahhhh! Stoked you guys showed up
S. Craig Zahler is also the director I most wish you guys would do an episode on. He's only done three movies, but they're all modern cult classics.
What a pleasant surprise
Hiatus my ass! We're back. I was fired from the movie. I stink. Enjoy. Subscribe. Farts.
Nice. Guess I'll put the noose away.
I never heard of clear history- it looks amazing. thank you for the recommendation
Joe, for the love of god, watch Craig Zahler's films -- BONE TOMAHAWK, BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99, and DRAGGED ACROSS CONCRETE. Those 3 movies deserve an episode from you and Pauline Whale.
Enjoying these!
If you like High Fidelity, check out Old Boyfriends. It's from 1979... it's directed by Joan Tewkesbury, who wrote Raanan's fave movie Nashville, and written by Paul Schrader.
Donnie Brasco. Good film with old star/young star combo
Kyle Chandler rules, glad you shouted him out. Great in Game Night as well
Drink every time Raanan rips on a movie and then says he hasn’t really seen it right after. Don’t drive obvi. lol He looks good tho - prolly doing intermittent not eating burritos. I need to start doing that. The intermittent part. I already eat the burros. I’m pissed at myself for being so hooked on this show. I didn't know there was a hiatus planned?! What the hell? I am really starting to enjoy this show
Love when Raanan does Jew jokes
The Thing is one of my favorite movies ever
Love this podcast!!! Keep up the good work - 80s baby.
Nice Joe for sticking to your guns on "Lost in Translation"!!!
Quickly becoming one of my fav podcasts but I don't know why
S. Craig Zahler is amazing. I love this movies! Please watch Bone Tomahawk, Brawl in Cell Block 99, and Dragged Across Concrete.
1995: dead man walking, 12 monkeys, heat, se7en, usual suspects, kids, Apollo 13, Braveheart, leaving Las Vegas, casino, clueless, to die for, Mighty Aphrodite, crimson tide, outbreak, die hard 3, desperado, clockers, brothers McMullen, Billy Madison
Does anyone else want to dress up as Joe and Raanan for Halloween?
Heyyy Raanan, big 12 Monkeys fan also. Great film.
That Bryan Cranston take hoo boy!
First Karate Kid for old/young.
Going back in time to be on the set of The Wizard Of Oz.
Heard some crazy stories about that one.
Would be fun to be a fly on the wall.
Perfect take on I'm Thinking of Ending Things. My least favorite movie ever.
Ranaan is my dad. That's not a compliment
"Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is bad" is a fireable offense.
Ranaan is a great show.
Any chance you'd do one for Samuel Fuller? I'd really love to know your thoughts on his filmography specifically White Dog
Ranaan looks thinner, good work bud
Don’t get crazy now.
Bryan Cranston is tremendous in television. His show Your Honor was amazing. But I'd have to agree his movies really really suck.
If Your Honor was "amazing", what in the hell was Breaking Bad? God-like?
What did we do to deserve this?
Great title.
Surprised neither of you guys cared much about Brazil from Terry Gilliam. One of my favorite movies.
This ep didn't make it to Castbox (podcast player)... Just an fyi in case Joe or Raanan forgot to press the magic button to make that happen
when is the 2 HOUR LONG episode TRASHING 3 billboards gonna drop?
Definitely look into Zahler that guy has a very interesting take on violence and gore. He's really cool
Thank you for the surprisee eppp!!!! That being said, Joe you have to watch Breaking Bad at some point.
Joe you and Kevin Ryan should do a pod just about the best Chicken Parms in NY, PA, NJ. I mean you guys are already eating them. Might as well let us watch.
Pootie tang
*Pootie Tang 2
best old and young duo: Brando and marDin sheen in apocalypse!
As soon as I read title I knew whoever hated Cranston hadn't seen Breaking Bad yet.
Would love a John Carpenter episode. Especially Halloween and The Thing! Love the show guys! Would love to hear both of your Favorite Carpenter scores also?
rocky IV was amazing
I'd love to hear your thoughts on Annette! it's on prime now! love the show guys.
Surprised joe never heard of S. Craig zahler hes great
Wow. I finally agree with Raanan. Jon Hamm STINKS! The dude is just looks and charisma. The acting is cheeseball corniness
I thought Cranston was great in Drive.
He pulled off "somewhat pathetic" really well
Terry Gilliam?
Time Bandits I'll always love.
Monty Python and The Holy Grail, Life Of Brian.
I could be wrong but I think that was the British promising freedom in the War of 1812, not the American Revolution. If you wanna see Cranston really stink it up, watch the pilot episode of “Your Honor”
Well this is a nice surprise! Tell Raanan to read the damn message I sent on Patreon! Farts
Lets do Villeneuve episode
21:50 never want to hear ranaan sniff again
When are you having Brian Koppelman on? Saw your conversation on Twitter and think he’d be a great guest
S. Craig Zahler has 3 great movies, some better than others. Give them a watch you'll enjoy them. I wish more movies were made like his
The movie Arthur… hmmm?
22:24: Funny I watched this part sipping on hard ass masala tea! TAKE THAT!

12 mins in "someone SLID INTO MY DMS"....goodbye.
I always thought Argo was overrated, even though it's solid. Just compared to Gone baby gone and The Town
Love Gone Baby Gone
I’m thinking of ending things was great. It deserves more than brushing it with just dark. That’s like calling The Godfather dramatic
Maybe the greatest young/old acting duo are Ryan and Tatum O'Neal in "Paper Moon"
Charlie Chaplin "The Kid" is also good
R.duval andsean p. In colors for old/young
USUAL SUSPECTS 95. Made by perverts, but still a bonafide classic.
movie didnt like but now like - burn after reading
What’s going on Joe? 2 mondays without a pod?! I’m mad at you.
Eddie Murphy & Nick Nolte was not a bad duo. Oh, and Steve Martin and JOHN CANDY.
Not being silly, I just was thinking "Monday without Joe and ranaan makes me wanna KILL myself commit suicide" and it was like 13 minutes ago I was thinking that it was miraculously uploaded
In America: Ranaan please read...that was an amazing movie but crushingly sad. Like the (Irish) American Angela's Ashes. No one ever references it.
But saying that it would be fun to delve into directors or movies you're unaware of. Or some movies you hate and giving it a second chance.
Maybe the only legitimate candidates for actually and total "cancellation" . . . .
Ps. Just because someone or something is popular doesn't necessarily mean that they're terrible or over rated.
I agree with Raanan. I thought vaginas were shadowy and blurry from all the hype cause of Basic Instinct.
Have you guys ever seen Jacques Tati stuff? Playtime is my favorite comedy ever made. I know it sounds pretty gay and pretentious to say that but legitimately it’s the most joyful experience I’ve ever had watching a comedy. Interested in your thoughts on that.

Raaaaaanaaaaa TF ... go for the zizek look my friend TF is this ? :)))
