      @@TutsPlusTom dude, You're my sensei for DaVinci Resolve. Your videos are better than the official training videos. Unfortunately, there are not many great tutorials for DaVinci Resolve in RUclips, most of em are featuring premiere pro.

    Tom, you're a master teacher, and I laughed when you said" So... I've been talking a long time and you're probably thinking Tom, shut up and edit - Let's do it"
    I'm a Newby to DaVinci and your primer instructing us (me) is so needed just to have a basic understanding of what is in this software and how it's built for filmmaking compared to both adobe premiere pro, and the simple Wondershare Filmora Pro. I'm never going back - DaVinci is laid out perfectly and really has no equal, especially for 60 or 90 minutes films. Thank you, Tom!

      Hey John, thanks so much for the kind words! I'm glad you got a little giggle out of it too, at the end of the day learning anything should be a fun process! If you ever need a quick reference on Resolve whilst you're still getting your head around it, I made a quick start version of this video recently, it might make a handy little reference for you! All the best in your Resolve journey 💪⚡

    One tip I can give people is don't get overwhelmed with keyboard shortcuts. Instead, just make your own keyboard settings, and try to have them match as much as you can for all programs you use to keep as consistent of a workflow as possible regardless of program.

    I love the videos. I find them very well done. The only thing I struggled with was following your mouse. I had to rewind many times to see where you were clicking. In future videos, if you can have a glowing circle around your mouse pointer, that would make them 100% in my mind.

    I'm trying to follow along and I'm at my first hiccup with you not remembering you're are dealing with newbs. Around 16:20 you said I'm just going to highlight this and zoom out. That's fine if you know how but I don't so now I have to try to figure that out before I can move on. Not a big complaint but something for you to think about in any of your future beginner tuts. Remember the things you don't even think about now are the things us noobs have no idea about.

    I'm hoping to improve my videogame video editing skills, but I'm really hoping that this tutorial series helps me, even if this is geared towards real-life or corpo editing.
    One of my biggest takeaways from this video is that I need to spend more time in the EDIT tab instead of the CUT tab. I was also scared to try the blade tool and such, but CLEARLY I should start to! Anything else is just that I might want to look into the "fundamentals" or "philosophies" of editing.. but I have no idea where I would find that on the internet.
    Happy New Year!

    Wow, great Tutorial. Thanks. I am interested in the fundamentals of fps, from project point of view to timeline to delivering, and working with multi clips of different fps. Also how do some effects deal with those clips (Speed, Duration, Retime Controls), how do they compress or drop frames in the combination of project/timeline/delivery fps. Is there a dedicated course or are you intending to make a tutorial for this topic? Cheers.

    As part of your workflow, would it have been better to edit the audio and video initially before making the cuts so that you won’t have to do it to individual clips? I know you can copy and paste effects onto the cut clips after they’ve been cut, but I would still imagine it would be more productive to do an initial sound and video edit.

    • @TutsPlusTom
      @TutsPlusTom Год назад +1

      That's definitely another good way to go about your editing workflow and would save a little bit of time doing. I'd encourage editors to investigate this as they start to get a little bit more comfortable with the process. In this video I wanted to try and lay down the fundamentals first before looking at time saving measures - but for sure that's a nice efficient way of working!
