Great guide! Just picked this up after spending 2 years hating Premiere, and am absolutely loving the program! Everything just works in DaVinci, compared to PP (premiere "pro") where you run into glitches, slow loading times, audio import bugs, and overall terrible quality... And I payed $500 annually for the adobe crap XD Anyways, DaVinci is clearly more professional, works better, and is more user-friendly (as far as workflow goes) than PP, so I guess I'm never looking back! :)
Hi Tom, great videos, Can you help me, Have you made any videos where you show a step-by-step guide on how you download a video template from Envato and edit it in Davinci resolve?

I followed these instructions (which are great btw!) and everything worked fine, but the next day when I opened my project again the audio had become really distorted, sort of robotic and doubled... I tried deleting and installing the whole DaVinci again but the audio is still messed up. What could have caused this? It sounds fine when i let it play by hitting the spacebar, but when I play it in slowmo by dragging the red progress line the distortion happens even though it worked fine yesterday
Hi! Thank you for the great video. I'm a non-pro who is just trying to do some simple video editing for my private use and this helped me get started. Unfortunately, I've run into what's surely a beginner's problem and I don't know how to solve it. I don't know if you or anyone could offer some help, but here goes: All I want to do is take a preexisting video and trim a little bit off the beginning and end. I'm not putting multiple clips together or adding effects or editing the audio or anything. Just trimming the edges off both ends. My source file is 4.8 GB and when I deliver it, it balloons up to 22 GB (!!!). The source video is 1920x1080 H.264 Main L4.0 at 29.97 fps with AC3 48000 stereo audio. I'm encoding it at 1920x1080 using H.264 master, resolution set to timeline resolution (1920x1080), quality set to Automatic (Best), encoding profile: Auto, Preset: Quality. On the audio side, the codec is AAC (I don't see an option to keep it at AC3 -- do I have to install a codec to make AC3 an option? I don't really want to re-encode the audio.) with a track data rate of 320 kbps. It looks like the only thing I'm changing is AC3 to AAC, and there's no way that the audio is what's causing it to balloon by a factor of 450%. Am I missing something? I've come across this before with other editing software and this is always a problem! Thanks in advance for anyone who can help.
Hi! Thanks for the kind words, and we're glad the video helped you get started! 💚 Regarding the file size issue, it sounds like the problem might be related to the encoding settings. When trimming a video without adding effects, the editing process itself shouldn't increase the file size by that much. Here are a few things you could check: Bitrate Settings: In the "Deliver" tab, make sure your bitrate settings are appropriate for the final file size you want. If it's set to Automatic or "Best," it could be increasing the bitrate and, therefore, the file size. Try manually setting a lower bitrate. Audio Settings: The audio conversion from AC3 to AAC could be impacting the file size, but it shouldn't cause that huge of a jump. If you're not adding new audio or changing it, try setting the audio codec back to AC3 if that's important for you. You might need a third-party encoder for this. Encoding Profile: Double-check the encoding profile settings. Using a "High" profile instead of "Auto" or "Main" might reduce the file size. Also, make sure you're using the same compression settings for video as your source file. Hope this clears things up! Cheers!
Oh wow, thank you for responding to this! I really didn't expect someone with 1.58M subscribers and a year-old video to reply. Thank you thank you thank you!! Indeed, it was the bandwidth. What tripped me up was I was looking for some kind of metric like that by looking at my source file's properties in DaVinci Resolve, and I simply couldn't find it. (It seems like a worthwhile thing for DaVinci to add in there, but I never found it.) But apparently, Windows does contain that information, so I was able to grab it there. Thank you again! I have spent hours looking for a solution to this, and you were so helpful.
Sure is, what you're looking for is Fairlight which you can see at 5:28 in this video however I moved past pretty quick as it wasn't what we were focusing on for this course sorry!
Hi, I have loads of my parents old VHS videos converted in digital format- Both video & audio quality are very poor, so can I use DaVinci or any other app to enhance the video quality (perhaps using AI) and most important, is enhance the audio quality. It will really be a great help if you can assist. I don't mind buying a paid app. I use a Mac.
Question: When I am using 4K high-bitrate GoPro footage and I use a 1080p timeline, am I losing quality when I choose to Export in 4K? I ask because there is a warning that the images, etc will be upscaled and I could lose quality. Thanks for the great video!
Good question, simple answer is no you're not loosing quality - but it does depend on some factors. Say you have 4K footage (assuming we're talking 3840x2160) and you put that on your timeline which is set to 1920x1080, at that point the footage has been scaled down by a factor of 2 (if it's set to 'fit to frame'). If you export that timeline at 4K, then the timeline is going to upscale by a factor of 2 to get from 1920 to 3840. So effectively what you've done is scaled it down, then scaled it back up again to it's original resolution. Now this is only accurate if you've done no additional scaling of your 4K footage in your 1080 timeline. Let's say you bring that 4K footage into your 1080 timeline and you want to 'punch in' on a section and you do this by a factor of 2, now when you export that 1080 timeline, any footage that you've already scaled up, is automatically going to get scaled up again by that 1080 > 4K factor of 2...which is now a factor of 4, therefore resulting in a loss of quality. That said, there are instances where you can get away with a bit of a quality loss in terms of resolution, it's definitely up to personal taste and what you're willing to sacrifice in terms of quality for the creative direction of the piece. And on top of that, I think Resolve does a pretty good job in maintaining quality when upscaling footage past it's native resolution, but again your mileage may vary depending on the quality (resolution, bitrate, codec etc) of the footage you're working with. I hope that long winded ramble somewhat answered your question!
@@Envato_Tom - Thank you for the thorough answer - that definitely answers my follow-up question as well regarding "punch in" or "zooming in" to capture more closely a specific part of the frame.
Confused on the copy grade (to all the other clips portion). Can't you just copy and paste the grading (command+C, command+V) to the other clips without generating the still?
Good shout, you can also copy the grade to various clips use the copy and paste method. I prefer the generating stills method, especially when you have many varying pieces of media that need grading, because it serves as a really easy visual reference as to which clips you're replicating. It really does just come down to personal preference though, both ways will lead to the same outcome.
I am very excited to use this and actually bought a computer to do this. I am using the apple 2021 all in one with m1 chipe 8 core gpu and 8gb with 512 SSD. I have tried 4 times to download and the only thing I get is an icon that says Black Magic Raw. Are we suppose to install something called PostgreSQL 13? love to get some input here. Thanks
It's hard to say without more information but the dead simplest way is to drag your media from your finder/explorer window into the media pool on the edit page. Media pool is located on the top left. Alternatively you can also drag files directly onto the timeline if you have a timeline setup already. This section should cover it but if you're still struggling maybe drop some more information in a reply here and I'll see if I can help! ruclips.net/video/P73m0p8JbV0/видео.html
Hi. This is great but, your speed in moving your mouse is way to fast for me. I have been over & over & over this vid I look at it again when my brain can handle the speed. Q. I have a film made in iMovie. Could I move it over and improve it ???
Hi! Sorry to hear the pace was too fast. You can try slowing down the playback speed in the video settings to help keep up. Regarding your question, yes, you can import your iMovie project into DaVinci Resolve for further editing and improvement. Just export your iMovie project as a video file, then import that file into Resolve. Hope this helps, cheers!
Hi! I have a question! I was wondering if you knew how to solve my problem. I have 2 videos taken separately (basically one video has instrumentalists playing, and the other has a vocalist but they're doing the same song) which I want to put side by side so it looks like everyone is in the same room. The same room was used for the video and we used the same lighting and camera. What we didn't consider, however, is setting the ISO to a specific one when filming both videos. It ended up being in auto when we recorded both videos so the lighting for both videos changed gradually and it didn't look seamless when I put them side by side (because they're having 2 different lightings due to the ISO being set in auto during recording). I wanted to try and make them have the same lighting. Is this possible? Thanks in advance!!!
I need to make a vid for our website. They did ask me to make it for 1920px per 755px. How the hell do i do that without losing any content part ?? Please, any advice would be really apreciated. Thanks a lot. I might check all your vids cause im newb to all of this. :) cheers

Hello, I bought the license for DaVinci Resolve Studio 18 earlier, everything looks very good in the program, but when I try to export the final film, it exports it colorless, desaturated with specifications, I shoot with A7IV and Ninja 5 / ProRes / 442 / and the Enable Flat setting Pass is OFF.
I need your help in solving a problem, I have bought some 3rd party transitions from Envato Elements and each of the help files says to go to, Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Fusion/Templates/Edit then transitions. But when I get to the templates file there is nothing in it, it is empty, with no edit or transition folders. I am using an M1 Macbook Pro. What am I doing wrong?
I dont get how i input a 4k video 5gigs in size and tell it to output for youtube and the file doubles in size. I mean its shrinking from 3840 to 1920 how is it now twice as big?
Please can someone help me? I have downloaded davinci resolve free version. I cannot import any clip into the software. Mp4, MOV or even still images. It will not open into DVR. I am using RX 580. I know it's old but still should work??
good day...I am using at the moment DaVinci 18 free version and it is simply great and easy to use even though you're an absolutly newbie. I was really thinking to purchase full version but I have still some questions you might can answear me please. 1) I read that when you have had pruchased once full version, up coming versions are free as well...for life time. 2) Is there any 4K option for render queue? videos on youtube will look of course much better with 4K than usual....thank you very much for your answear.
I believe you pay for the studio version once and you have the license for a lifetime. So, whenever updates are released you can update the software continuously. As for the second question, there is a 4k option for the render queue.
@@rukydeez1030 correct, the license is (currently) for a lifetime upgrade path. There are 4K (and above) export options as well. @arescyp Just remember that in order to export 4K videos for RUclips you want to start with 4K footage or otherwise you're relying on digital upscaling and not actually providing your viewers with true 4K images. Good quality FHD (1080p) images are still more than acceptable in this day and age! Make sure to also learn about and understand the various export settings such as the delivery codec and bitrate settings for the desired upload location.
Where is the default project database stored? I'm going crazy because one day this program is working and then all of a sudden I try to start it up and it's not responding when it gets to that first screen. I've even uninstalled everything as far as I know completely and I manually deleted folders and I still can't get the stupid ass program to work anymore. It doesn't say untitled project though it says project 1 and I'm thinking there's something wrong with that and I can't get rid of it. That's the only thing I can think of maybe if I can delete that project one it will stop hanging up when I start the program but I can't figure out where it's at. And I can't search for it through the program because the program won't respond. I did update my GPU to a modern midteier nvidia card, and yes the drivers are up to date and so is Windows 11.
Hi! The default project database is typically stored in your system’s AppData folder (on Windows) or in Library (on Mac). For Windows, try checking C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Resolve Disk Database. If the program still won’t start after deleting the project, you might want to consider creating a new database when launching Resolve. If that doesn’t work, try uninstalling Resolve using a third-party uninstaller to make sure everything is removed properly, then reinstalling it. Hope this helps, cheers!
@@envatotuts thanks for the reply. I already tried deleting that folder. I cannot create a new database cos the program stops responding before anything can be done at all. I'll try looking for a third party uninstaller though. I manually deleted things from the registry too so Idk what else short of reformat can be done. :/
Sorry to hear that it's still giving you trouble! If a third-party uninstaller doesn’t help and you’ve already tried cleaning up the registry manually, it might be worth checking if there are any lingering processes or services related to DaVinci Resolve running in the background. You could also try creating a new user profile on your system to see if that helps. If all else fails, a fresh OS install might be the last resort, but hopefully, it won’t come to that. Sending good vibes your way to resolve the situation! Cheers!
This is increasing my stress level. When I render to upload to RUclips my video is jerky. (1920x1080, mp4, H.264) I shot the footage on a gopro at 30fps. everything set to 30fps. The original video is smooth but the final result is jerky. The clouds in the sky jump around, the foreground skips from point to point. I was using an external drive to store all my files. I thought that the jerky video was because of transfer speeds between the computer and external drive. It's not an ssd drive. I archived the files and moved everything to my internal disk. I still get the same crappy output. Can you help? any suggestions?
99% of the things covered in this video should translate across to the Windows version, is there anything that you're finding a barrier being on Windows using DVR?
you should slow your speech delivery a little, i could slow it to 75% but it becomes too slow, you have an accent and hence you should slow down if you want more people to understand, for example when you said you have a PAL system, it goes over fast, there are more examples where I had to hear again and again.
Hi, Thank you for your feedback! I appreciate the suggestion to slow down my speech. I’ll work on adjusting my pace to make it easier for everyone to follow along. Your input is really helpful! Cheers!

Hey mate
Have you made a video about using the effects in Davinci like the blur and stuff like that
THANKYOUUUUU SIRRR
Very helpful. Using now. Much appreciated!
You're welcome!
Please make Fusion tutorials. The only one I can find on this channel was uploaded 8 years ago.
Hi! Thank you for the great video. I'm a non-pro who is just trying to do some simple video editing for my private use and this helped me get started.
Unfortunately, I've run into what's surely a beginner's problem and I don't know how to solve it. I don't know if you or anyone could offer some help, but here goes:
All I want to do is take a preexisting video and trim a little bit off the beginning and end.
Regarding the file size issue, it sounds like the problem might be related to the encoding settings. When trimming a video without adding effects, the editing process itself shouldn't increase the file size by that much. Here are a few things you could check:
Bitrate Settings: In the "Deliver" tab, make sure your bitrate settings are appropriate for the final file size you want.
Do you offer training on Zoom or Microsoft Teams?

Is it possible to edit audio only on this software? Thanks
Good video
How do you import RUclips videos to edit on Davinci Resolve 18?
lets hope the new one has better txt scrolling with center alignment added
Very helpful
Glad it helped
Confused on the copy grade (to all the other clips portion). Can't you just copy and paste the grading (command+C, command+V) to the other clips without generating the still?
Good shout, you can also copy the grade to various clips use the copy and paste method. I prefer the generating stills method, especially when you have many varying pieces of media that need grading, because it serves as a really easy visual reference as to which clips you're replicating. It really does just come down to personal preference though, both ways will lead to the same outcome.
I’m new to DVR. For some reason I cannot import media in using the import media in the file tab. Any ideas please? It’s driving me nuts.
Thanks
update! got it figured out and we are rockin and rolling now!
can't import media. how do I do that please? thx a lot great content

:) cheers
How do you install and edit pre Envato Templates (transitions, video template)?
how do I enlarge the viewer or video playback window. it's way too small.
Thanks. Goes by too fast and I can't see where you found the simple Edit tab???
I put the Quick in Quickstart! ⚡ That said, you can see all of the various program tabs at the bottom of the screen. From left to right you have Media > Cut > Edit > Fusion > Colour > Fairlight > Deliver

I can't import my mp4 footage in my Mac. please help me.
I can't seem to find a "Bin." How I get a new one?
Right click anywhere in the media pool and select New Bin, you can see the setting pop up on screen at 00:08:39 😀
Davinci Resolve kept rejecting my mp4 videos that other programs recognized as good.
Working but will be watching it this evening...

you should slow your speech delivery a little, i could slow it to 75% but it becomes too slow, you have an accent and hence you should slow down if you want more people to understand, for example when you said you have a PAL system, it goes over fast, there are more examples where I had to hear again and again.
Hi,
Thank you for your feedback! I appreciate the suggestion to slow down my speech. I’ll work on adjusting my pace to make it easier for everyone to follow along. Your input is really helpful!
