Instead of mounting the velcro to the receiver, I took apart my Tacstar side saddle, removing the polymer from the steel back. I then stuck the velcro onto the steel backing and mounted that to the gun with the supplied bolts, so it is removable. I stuck hook pile on the back of the polymer Tacstar side saddle, effectively turning it into a shotgun shell card. Shells can be left in the polymer shell card long term, whereas elastic cards will wear out if shells are left in them.
Just got mine. Put it onto my Mossberg 590A1. The shells are super tight in the pockets. I put them in with brass down, the promptly fell out onto the ground while shooting. Shells need to be brass up.
Thanks for a very good review! Based in part on your video I ordered one for my brand new 870 Express Tactical. Black was out of stock so I decided to just get one in brown/coyote to see how I like it, and if it works out as well as I think it will I'll get a few more in black when they're back in stock.
I've been thinking about adding a shell carrier to my 870 but the only one I like is from Mesa and costs $120. I like this one though...especially because of the fast reload capability. Thanks!
I know you asked a while ago but I had to redo the velcro on my 590a1 a few weeks ago and when I took off the velcro there was no adhesive or damage to my receiver. Granted mine is parkerized but either way you should be good to go!
Ok sounds good. You'd think the guys at blackhawk would think about that issue. But yea looks lik I'll just saw off a lil on the right side. Thanx again brother! You helped me a lot!
I have some that are elastic shotgun shell cards made by 3gungear.com that are extremely high quality and you can customize them, I find the the ones that hold the shells at a slight angle are easier to use. I got a OSOE shotgun micro rig but removed two of the six shell cards and threw in my seven round cards so they can readily be removed from my chest rig and place on the velcro on my receiver.
It was an S&J carrier, the velcro strip didnt have any manufacturing print on the back so i cant be certain. I installed it at room temp and it is a powder coat finish Rem870. Did yours come epoxy finished?
@@Arthurmd22 So far, no damage on Parkerized, Blued and Brownells Aluma-Hyde finishes. It shouldn't harm quality/factory finishes. I'd imagine it might take regular spray paint off with it though.

Did Esstac provide you velcro for the weapon system? Or did you need to provide that for the card. Overall great review thanks for doing it! Looking at ordering two of them this week.
The first 4-5 cards i bought in OD and Coyote did not come with the adhesive hook-and-loop. So I used Velcro® #90593, which is still on the gun. The Multicam cards I bought about a year later came with hook-and-loop strips.
Here is my biggest question. How long have you had the "card" style velcro saddles on? Does it effect your finnish? Not super worried about the finnish as much as tactical ability and reliabilty but I am curious.

quick question, i m considering this for my 590a1 blackwater, will the adhesive velcro stick well on the parkerized finish? also, when you do rapid reloads, does the velcro stick firm on the gun?
Just purchased 5x 5-rounders from Esstac website. Delivered in 5 business days. Love it. Keeps the gun balanced and don’t have to worry of having rounds on the front end of my sling jostling around.

i was woundering if i should put one of these on even if i have a butt stock saddle on my shotgun already? would that be overkill? can i have anybodys input? thanks.
The reason I don't stick the velcro directly to the gun is because I'm going to Cerakote it eventually (hopefully sooner than later) and I don't want to go through hassle getting rid of the velcro. So I have a piece of adhesive backed hook pile velcro die cut for my receiver standing by for when the time comes. Currently the steel plate is just adding weight and requires an extra allen wrench to take the gun down.
They are holding up great. No noticeable wear or loosening elastic. Way more practical and versatile than a fixed sidesaddle. They are also easily cut down if you wanted to make a 4-5-6 rd card. There is a material difference between the solid color and Multicam cards. I note that in another video here. Product Update- Esstac Shotgun Card from SKD, I Can't Recommend the Multicam Card

A 2" wide roll of self adhesive Velcro brand hook and loop. Home Depot, Walmart, etc. All carry it. Has a ton of uses and an insane adhesive that won't come off unless you want it to. I cut it to size/shape, degreased the receiver and applied. Some people say they got velcro with their cards. I did not.
in my experience, the retention does not hold up after a year of use. shells fall out when shooting. i have replaced my three esstac cards with a metal side saddle.
PeacefulTactics What color did you use? I did a follow up video on the Multicam cards. I did not recommend those due to a inferior elastic. My OD and Coyote cards are still working great after 3yrs of use and being constantly loaded. .
PeacefulTactics Well, that sucks. It is certainly different from my experience. Having previously owned TacStar and Mesa mounts. I've had better luck with these. As I stated before, mine are holding up well. The TacStar had horrible retention and got worse the hotter it was out side. If you left it in the sun or in a car trunk the shells would just fall out. With my Mesa, the rubber retention strip would deform the shell hulls if you left them stored in the side saddle. I took it out when it was well below freezing and could barely get the hulls out because the rubber was frozen hard and the hulls had formed a notch around them. None of theses systems are without their faults. Its good to hear your input though. Not everyones experiences will be the same.

The best stickers made have a 5 year life, out in the weather even less, Velcro fouls with dirt & mud, while I agree its convenient, it gives your gun that nappy hair doo look.
Big Whit I SBS’d this gun. Stripped the paint. It’s all black with old school wood stocks and 14.5” barrel w XS big dot sight bead now. Still has the card on the side, but I shortened it to 5rds since the wood stock overlaps the receiver. The Choate stock was solid, comfortable and had an adjustable LOP. It made accessing the safety difficult, which caused me to adapt and change how I handled the gun. I have a video on it. Then I went to a Hogue. It’s more traditional but has a slightly more vertical grip that the standard stock w/ a nice squishy recoil pad. Both where quality. It would come down to personal preference. The Magpul stuff is really the best of both worlds. Great feel of a pistol grip, easy access to the tang safety, adjustable LOP and plenty of sling mount options.
Velcro® #90593. I already had it laying around from several other projects and uses. Works perfectly. Prep/degrease the surface thoroughly with alcohol and you should be GTG. I just ran 50rds of full power buck last week. Still holding strong. Its been on the gun for about 3yrs. www.homedepot.com/p/Velcro-Industrial-Strength-4-ft-x-2-in-Tape-90593/202261931
I've heard some people dislike putting the velcro loop pile directly on the side of the receiver because you need to have your serial number visible if stopped by the police or traveling to another state with your gun via airplane and possibly if you're driving into certain states. Also police officers have to log guns in and out. Irrelevant argument though since you can order a die cut velcro that has windows for the serial number and pins on specific receivers. Or you can do it yourself lol.

I then stuck the velcro onto the steel backing and mounted that to the gun with the supplied bolts, so it is removable. The slide loc 2 pac as 3gungear calls it is excellent! It makes slug change overs and/or combat reloads smooth and fast.
