I'm disappointed that i finished Mother 3 without knowing the combo. I thought those were bonus or extra attacks. Welp gotta play it again. It seems satisfying.
Mother 3's battle mechanics are tricky, but such a great concept. It is the inclusion of timed inputs that puts Mother 3's gameplay way above that of most RPGs (including Earthbound). It's a shame that more games didn't adopt timed commands for their gameplay, but it is what it is.
The combo system fights against the rolling hp system, it fucks you up if you use a emulator, and if you suck at it, you need to grind alot to get trough the game. Mother 3 would be better without it.
U know that feeling of pure dissapointment where you do that. And its going through the text "Lucas tried lifeup beta". And the ally ur trying to heal, as soon as they are about to get healed, collapses. And then Lucas, who was already on full hp, heals himself instead. And you just sit in the corner crying bc u lost both an ally and PP. ;-;
if an ally is dead if lucas has healing gamma then use it to revive a dead ally if not then use your revive items you might have if i missed something then I'm sorry to interrupt
For some people this mechanic could be something very boring but I found it very awesome and original, I love how some of the music changes the tempo and rhythm depending of the enemy and his difficulty
Yeah, I'm playing Earthbound and not having rhythm attacks makes battles so much more boring, it is picking up a bit now that I have Jeff and have to actually think each turn
i recently got the translation and i know for sure im not tone deaf but it hasnt worked to well for me. now i know that i have to be RIGHT in cadence with the beat. thank ya for clearing things up for me
Thanks to this video I can understand the sound battles more and get higher than a 2 hit combo. While I was practicing with the battle memory, I gotten a few 16's, 15's and 11's
Wow! I dunno if it's just me, but I would never be able to accurrately tap a touch screen like that! I have enough problems doing it with an actual controller on a pc! You're amazing!
Appreciate it I beat this before and could never do a timed attack. After looking at this I pulled off a 15 hit combo. I miss GBA4iOS I’m using Delta for the time being.
The only thing that I didn't like about this combos is that, if you received mortal damage and start the combo, that character is still losing hp, so you MUST stop the combo and pray to have time to heal him/her I didn't noticed it once, so I was just pulling the combo and then Duster died. Basically, pay attention to HP ALWAYS. No matter what.
Also you have to have in mind that stuff like imput delay for this game makes 16 hit combos way harder in emulators If you have an console like an ds your best bet is to have a flashcard with the rom inside Or if not try to shave as much ram as you can before playing
I tried it and failed miserably, guess my timing and rhythm aren't as good as when I played bowsers inside story. I'll just stick to playing this like Earthbound.
I have a emulator where it let's me speed up time, it screwed up my music permanently :( and now whenever any music is played it has like a buffering sound and my game sometimes goes slower because of the lag that speeding up the game caused :( and I'm really sad because I don't wanna restart my game but thanks I really needed this :D
Well, to start off, try going to the battle memory and go against the first enemies. They have slower, more repetitive beats that are easier to land. Also, when you use your hypno pendulum, take a second to listen for the beat before you attack. Some enemies have beats that change throughout the battle theme, so you need to watch out for those too. Hope this helps!
Is it easier to to rhythm attack combos on the IOS Emulator? I'm using mGBA on my PC and it's near impossible to get consistent rhythm combos without dumb luck.
I used an IOS emulator called GBA4IOS, but from what i've heard, Nintendo managed to take it down for good. But yeah, it is harder on emulators bc most of them have some kind of delay, but the one I used was pretty good. You could try tapping a bit earlier and seeing if it registers. hope this helps at all!
@@LettuceK Thank you, I actually was able to get some slightly more consistent rhythm combos by turning on the "sync with video" option on mGBA. Seems to help but with the trade-off of slight audio artifacting.
Even putting them to sleep I cant do anything. In 5? hours I got 7 hit combo once, and about 6 5 hit combos, 10 2 hit. Something like that. I can't even play this game, after the father leaves I still dont get to play as the protagonist, then the castle sucks they are all burping at me, a ton of bs to do, a ton of areas to go, cant combo, get items just to die and they get wasted so I have to reload and lose exp or lose my items. And I have like 5 rotten milks that say you shouldnt eat them. Can't stand it at all I'm not going to play this at this rate. Then your buddy making jokes when ur kid might be dead and ur wifes dead then telling you to relax. So constantly grating. I did enjoy some parts of the game. Barely.
Thank you all so much for the nice comments and tips! If you’re interested, I’ve got other stuff on my channel! Have a good day!

Make sure you use an actual cartridge so the timing works.
@some person lol same
There's npcs that tell you several times how to do it

Super Mario rpg comes to mind, legend of dragoon too. Both great games.
Feliz Navidaddy and Paper Mario 1 & 2 (4 & 5 did it as well but those fights seem really pointless)
True, many have a time action but that's it, there's no rhythm to follow to deal extra damage, and im talking about normal attacks
The Mario and Luigi RPGs do this really well
The combo system fights against the rolling hp system, it fucks you up if you use a emulator, and if you suck at it, you need to grind alot to get trough the game. Mother 3 would be better without it.
if someone took mortal damage DO NOT USE LONG COMBOS
if someone took mortal damage spam through text and cast pk lifeup

PSI Teleport does not exist in Mother 3.

It's actually at the rhythm of the song playing, there are beats that slow down and speed up, in those cases you need to do the same to keep the combo

well with pk hypnosis it does the same thing if that helps

A lot of emulators also have lag which makes it harder

this video showed me the timings for the heartbeat and now I can consistently hit 2 - 3 hit combos
thanks
do you gotta hit the initial attack button with the beat? or just the ones after it?
If I remember correctly, you have to hit the initial attack!
