Here’s a tip: When hunting for the Sword of Kings, use the times you get into a double Starmen battle as a PP farm. By that I mean set up a shield and PSI Magnet away to restore tons of PP. I recommend having Poo as your main healer because he can restore PP with Magnet unlike Ness.
this is a glitch but i recommend just using a equip any item glitch and make poo equip the magic truffle. To do the glitch you have a teddy bear in your inventory then in the slot right after it have any item that you can equip (but sense this is for poo just put a holmes hat or cheap bracelet etc) then in the slot right after that have the item you want to equip (in this case the magic truffle) then encounter an enemy and have the enemy destroy the teddy bear and make poo equip the holmes hat during the same turn. Poo should have the magic truffle equipped which increases his offense by i think 80-100 and his guts by 88. If your confused about the glitch watch this video ruclips.net/video/NQcIZSyjtx0/видео.html

One strategy I always enjoyed using while looking for the sword of kings was to have poo copy the recharge robots that heal each other. That way you can heal the party basically indefinitely.
With earthbound being on the switch you can use the rewind (or as I like to call the Divine Pulse button) to rewind before the fight starts, move or go into the item menu, and go back in the fight and you may get one without the need to over level or relocate the enemy you need to find

One tip I have for getting the Sword of Kings is, even though the Casey bat is a terrible in-battle weapon due to its abysmal accuracy, it has very high attack power which contributes to automatic wins via green swirling Starman Supers when they're alone, which can allow for more amount of kills for that 1/128 drop.
I was watching this while grinding for a third star pendant. Also, ghost of starman is extremely easy if you use psi shield omega. It reflects starstorm right back at them without damaging you. I got it within an hour. I also got broken antenna on my 8th try, so that was a nice five minutes of "grinding."
I've been seeing people say that you can't get the gutsy bat from the original kraken in the sea of eden, but I definitely got it from that enemy on my 2nd playthrough. I saved a game there and switched files at the sea of eden every time I played through it for years.
It's different somehow than the other drops, at least in the sea. Most of the other drops in the game are determined by a random generator that produces a value up to 128 at the beginning of a fight, if the number is high enough for a particular item the enemy will have it on them. If you lock that value to 128 all of the rare (and all other) drops will appear every time in every fight, except for the gutsy bat from the krakens in the sea of eden.
I somehow got a Goddess Ribbon on only my third Ghost of Starman during a one-sitting playthrough, I wasn't even attempting to go for any 1/128 items but I somehow had insane luck to get it
I was trying to obtain the magic fry pan, and after 2 days, I got it; then, 2 minutes after that, I found my first major psychic psycho, and he gave me the star pendant.
So… all that time trying to get the gutsy bat from Magicant was for nothing. So much of my childhood was restarting my game over and over trying to get it.
Surprisingly enough, on my second playthrough of Earthbound, I actually called that I would obtain the Gutsy Bat from the Bionic Kraken! Another note is that I ignorantly obtained the Sword of Kings from a random Starman Super at Stonehenge.

On my first play through, I got two star pendants when going through the 8th sanctuary location. I didn’t even know how rare they were until I saw this video! Unfortunately, I used up all of my luck there because I could not get the sword of kings drop for the life of me, to the point where I gave up after a few hours.
I have beaten EarthBound once, and when I did, I went for the Xterminator Spray, Sword of Kings, Broken Antenna, Magic Fry Pan, three Star Pendants, Goddess Ribbon, and Gutsy Bat. The Star Pendants were the worst.
I think in just one of my playthroughs (and I've played through this game more times then I can count) I managed to get most of those items. It was from my legit copy and played on a real SNES, and it required a whole lot of grinding and patience. Most of the time I only bother to get 4 Star Pendants. Yes, you read that right, I get 1 for each character. The weird thing is that although it usually takes awhile to get one, once you do get one they drop a lot more often. It's always like that for me, so I suspect that perhaps the odds of a rare drop get better after you get that drop. It could be just coincidence, but I've seen comments from people saying the same thing about the Sword of Kings. After they get it once, they end up getting a few more. Has anyone looked into the code to see if this is a thing?
I'm one of the kids who spent weeks farming for the Gutsy Bat in the wrong location, thanks to that lousy guide...I still cringe every time I think about it. T.T
I’ve gotten the sword of kings and the magic frying pan. I farmed for the star pendent and the gutsy bat in the sea of eden. (Followed the players guy back in the day). I didn’t find out it was in the wrong place until years later.
I did a 100 percent run on my 3ds through my whole senior year of high school and got every item on the list . I took brakes and stuff but it’s did take a while.
when I played, I got the sword of kings, the broken antenna, and THREE star pendants, i was going for the godess ribbon but... I gave up when every one capped their levels, I didn't even try the gutsy bat or magic fry pan.
I beat this game yesterday and I didn’t know the goddess bow was rare. I actually got it unknowingly and didn’t realize I had it till I had to switch my inventory around. The only rare item I got in the game. I actually do feel bad for people grinded for the gutsy bat in magicant. I actually thought it was in magicant too. I wonder how people figured out that the strategy guide was wrong. Like ik if you got lucky in cave of the past and got it on your first try you’d know then. But did Nintendo ever say anything about it I like a Nintendo power or did people just have to wait for the internet. I heard the kraken dropped it but I didn’t know there was two krakens in the game. Luckily I didn’t try to grind for it in magic ant because I saw the spawn rate for kraken was low so I said nope.
I think the Gutsy Bat might good for breaking Porky's legs, but I'm pretty sure that PSI is better (if physical attacks aren't outright deflected, idk I never played it), and once the Devil's Machine is off, you're on your own until you send the fourth wall tumbling down upon Giygas.
I got the Sword of Kings twice, both on the GBA version, once on the repro cart of the fan translation (On my first save file that I no longer have, from what I recall) and the other time on the official Japanese cart, (When doing a South Park themed file) got either the Goddess Ribbon or the Magic Fry Pan (I don't remember which one) on another GBA file, and the Gutsy Bat twice, once on a Star Wars file on the GBA version (again...) and recently on a Back to the Future file on my SNES Mini.
I probably got the gutsy bat my first try too lol. I didn’t know rare drops were a thing and was wondering why it increased guts so much. The only one I got from this video
I will never understand why they decided to put the gutsy bat so later in the game. I think it might have originally have been in where the book said but they changed it last minute.
I was psycho enough to go for a perfect game file. 3 Star Pendants, Goddess Ribbon, Sword of Kings, Magic Fry Pan, Gaia Beam AND Gutsy Bat. Just because I wanted to.

I have beaten EarthBound once, and when I did, I went for the Xterminator Spray, Sword of Kings, Broken Antenna, Magic Fry Pan, three Star Pendants, Goddess Ribbon, and Gutsy Bat. The Star Pendants were the worst.
I just got the star pendant on my first major psycho battle, who should I give it to?
business hamster I’d give it to Paula or Ness
BlueNinten I gave it to ness, and was able to beat diamond dog easily, thanks dood!
Maybe it’s because I exploited the rock candy trick hard.. hah
BlueNinten Update: beat earthbound, got the meteotite and sold it before I did.
Earthbound rocked!
Lol i got the gutsy bat without even trying I didn’t even know it was the rarest item
Im a year late to this, but I got the gutsy bat in magicant, and the goddess band in 1 playthrough without even knowing it was rare..
I found 2 1/128 chance items on my 1st ever playthrough. They were:
PSI Caramel from Territorial oak
Sudden Guts Pill from Musica
Chuggaaconroy: Are you challenging me?
The guide was wrong about the Gutsy bat? Well that explains a lot.
I'm one of the kids who spent weeks farming for the Gutsy Bat in the wrong location, thanks to that lousy guide...I still cringe every time I think about it. T.T
I give you my condolences
If you end up being able to insta-win battle a starman using back attack, keep doing that and it'll drop. You should gain enough levels to do that.
I grinded for the sword my last play through. I turned out at level 90 by the time i dropped it 😅. Made everything afterwards pretty easy.
My first run of Earthbound I got the goddess ribbon not knowing that it was as rare as it was
I’ve gotten the sword of kings and the magic frying pan.
Dude you need more subs.
Is the Gutsy Bat that rare??? I got it on my first kraken boss (the regular one) I mean the one boat ride that takes places between summers to scaraba
I got three useless Goddess Ribbons and capped my entire party at level 99 before finally getting the Gutsy Bat.
when I played, I got the sword of kings, the broken antenna, and THREE star pendants, i was going for the godess ribbon but...
Unless you played the gba version then a simple snake can kill him.
I came here after getting the goddess ribbon on my first fight with a ghost of a starman, didnt know they were other rare items
jokes on you, i'm a loser and am going to grind for all the weapons, even if i rip all my own hair out and am sleep deprived
believe it or not, i got the gutsy bat with the first bionic kraken i found, i was impacted
