@@hornady i was collapsing 35 Whelen brass when seating bullets and could not figure out why, did my usual setup and it was not working. Your setup is far simpler and more practical than mine. Better yet, it works! Off to the range this morning.
Ya...there's something wrong with this unit (the seating die) when "not" using the crimp! It leaves "rings" around the top of the projectile. Yes I contacted Hornady's and the dude said I was engaging the crimp on the die! NOT! Starting with one turn backed out, up to backing the die out to 1-1/2 turns after touching and it still leaves a ring! I now have to buy the "A max" stem...show me the money...according to the tech. All my other multiple brand named die sets work perfectly fine!!! This is the "only" Hornady die set I own...if it still does it with the A Max stem, it will be be my most expensive fishing weight I have! Lets see if ol' Hornady is able to redeem itself.
Hi, I have just purchased the Microjust seating micrometer. It doesn't come with any kind of instructions explaining how to use it or how to read the increments. A instruction video would be really useful. I have searched RUclips and cannot find one by Hornady or anyone else.
I got my custom 270 Ackley improved dies I've selected my seating stem using the eldx stem it seems to be the least aggressive and give the most clearance for the nosler ballistic tip bullet that I'm using since eldx bullets are not available in my area at the moment, and I'm trying to figure out the proper way to set up the dye without a crimp since the neck seems to be quite tight.
I bought a Hornady 546516 9mm die set ..... It contained what appears to be a "spare" seating die ( one in die looked right for 9mm ) ... Spare in box was a " flat " ended piece. Can't find any any info anywhere as to what its used for ??? Thanks all
Hello I'm from Brazil I have a Lee Turret Classica press and Hornady's 9mm Die game I'm not sure how to configure the last Die factory Crimp could they help me?
@@MyREDTAILme too. Every cartrige has an empty, primerless Reference round that fits the magazine and has the headspace and overall chamber length to the lands worked out. I keep a box of them, different bullet weights have different ogives and distance to lands, and I write on the brass with a felt pen.
using Hornady 546358 American Custom Winchester 308, 2 die set. Having problems with the seater setup. There is no case support beyond the neck and several cases were crushed accordian style below the neck. This die cannot be setup to meet the upward most position of the press ram. There is about 3/8-1/2" of the case still showing at the top position. Any thoughts. I cannot find any clear diagrams or pictures showing the set up for seating the 308 WIN with 150 gr FMJ-BT or Hornady SST 150 gr poly-tipped bullets..
Putting an empty case into the die it looks like you will crush the case if you set the die to meet the press ram. Watch the video again closely. He does not do this. Raise the ram and put in a sized case minus the bullet. Screw the seating die down till resistance is felt then back off 1/2 to 1 full turn. Then use the top adjustment to set the depth of the bullet. It is all in the details.
First time re-loader here. I am having a problem that I do not know how to address. I get a round set to the right length, 2.250, I make another round and it is off measurement again. It is really frustrating me. Any pointers?
So I have your 38 special dies and of course nothing else to buy now. I found your video that stated oh there's no taper crimp in the 38 special. So now that you've wasted my time and money how do I fix the bell so I can shoot the rounds? With the tiny bell they won't chamber in my revolvers. Honestly why did you do this?
Roll crimp it. Obviously you did not set your die up properly. Read the instructions, if you don't have them use the search engine for Hornady roll crimp.
I've been having inconsistent seating depths with my dies, can anyone help me out. my die is set up properly I triple checked it and it is still inconsistent and my neck tension is all the same. Could different brass brands effect it? If not then what could it be. HELP please.
CB1942EO On a straight wall case like 9mm you will not use a roll crimp, but a taper crimp. It doesn’t need a lot, just enough to hold tension between the bullet & case.
I thought any round that is magazine fed or semi auto needs a crimp due to the action of the bolt, that can cause the bullet to pop out. As well as hunting Ammo due to the constant movement of the hunter in rough terrain. Thank you for these great videos, I’m just trying to gain as much knowledge on hand loading as I can before I start.
Cannot thank you enough for these clear setup videos. I was in trouble until I found these. Good work. Loading 200 gr. Hornadys for deer season.
Great to hear!

Will this work for the 9MM seating die with taper crimp? I want to crimp in a different step. Thanks!

after the bullet seats , it sticks and pulls it out of the sizing die body, not impressed

American Series Dies? What happened to those?
Those have been discontinued
Is is advisable to make a Dummy round after you have set up your seating Die for the right measurements for future use etc.?
Since you should check cartridges with calipers and or case checkers for the proper overall length, what would you possibly use a "dummy" round for?
I use it like a Templet to compare it next to a Factory round etc just for my own records

are you measuring from the tip to the base of the cartridge ? if yes that is totally normal since the tip may vary
these dies will work with a RCBS or Redding press correct?
Yes they will

Now when you backed that off that 1/2 turn did that remove the crimping step in that die setup.?
MyREDTAIL, it sure did. This set up has no crimp added to the cartridge.
is the process the same for 9mm

Don’t you need a roll crimp on a cannlure bullet though?
We wouldn't call it a need, but it is an option. A lot of hand loaders don't crimp bottleneck cartridges at all.

Neck tension alone should be able to keep the bullet in place. If it is a concern, all of our seating dies have a crimping function.
@@nono559 FWIW, I run 55 gr with cannelure no crimp in service rifle for short course without any issues and sufficient accuracy.
