I spent 10 years working maintenance in hospital, over that ten years I replaced ceiling tiles until I wore out the cartilage in my right shoulder, at 72 I'm a coward for the shoulder surgery but I retired in 2016 and all those years since I left the hospital, I've slept on my left side or flat on my back, but I can definitely tell that sleeping on my left side has been beneficial to my health.
Thank you so much for this. I have had terrible bouts with heart burn (acid reflux). In my research I found that sleeping on the left would help. It improved immediately plus I DID feel more rested and thoughts stopped swirling in my head at night. I wish I would have seen this video long ago.
I sleep on my right side due to a lower disc problem in my back. Been doing it for years, but this video opened up my eyes to sleeping positions. Hell I didn't even know where my liver was! Of course, at age 82 I also have nasty arthritis so how I feel when I get up is a crap shoot. Thank God for Vicadin. Yeah, except it causes constipation but what the hell, ya can't win 'em all. Best to all for a great Holiday season .. Don.
YEAH I HAD A REAL NEED FOR THE VICODAN BUT YOU CAN'T GET THEM ANYMORE! EVEN AFTER SURGERY THEY REFUSE TO FILL THEM IN MANY PLACES! I'M TRYING TO FIND A DOC THAT WILL GET ME A PAIN PUMP!
I use to sleep on my left side until I had a stroke during surgery, I had paralysis on my left side, and I didn’t know that they separated my shoulder. 1 month later I have feelings and intense pain in my left shoulder. This was 2019 and I’m still recovering and I can only sleep on my right side.
Good to know this as I have slept on my left side for as long as I remember. Nevertheless I need a good cup of coffee before my body is ready for the new day....
I breathe best sleeping on my left side. to avoid pressure on my shoulder I place a pillow behind my spine to lean/roll back against. Even when I tent camp I replicate this way of sleeping.
i think sleeping on their left side has helped the monks to prevent real estate agents moving in on their territories and turning their lifestyles into the nightmares that most western societies now are dealing within cities of the dead.
Anyone who has acid reflux should sleep on their left side to allow the position of the esophagus to drain rather than leak acid up the throat, bec the sphincter lies open. 1st thing in a.m. drink 1/2 tsp baking soda in a half glass of water; neutralizes the entire esog & stomach too. You'll feel better immed.
I sleep on my right side if you think about it your heart is situated more by just a bit on your right side so if you sleep on your side your actually giving heart a bit more room than if you sleep on your left
Left side sleeping , gives the heart more room to function properly , it's also less pressure on the left , going by your posit - if the heart is slightly to the right , it's there for the space , which when left side sleeping , provides a larger space for the heart , and less weight , for it to bear .
I sleep in the soldiers position now, on my back with 3 pillows, Since I had my heart muscle damaged by a medical prescription,, it's the sleeping position with the least heart palpitations..
What if you are left handed? After my chiro cured me of sleeping on my stomach I have been preferring my left side. HOEVER I have about 3 minor afflictions on my left side that frequently tell me it's time to change. I think this is something to explore further. Maybe those monks just responded to their teachers views. WHat if they now switched to right side and were told by techer that this would be even better?? Sometimes flat on back is a relief. Had a friend who slept on back with device so it was a real help to her. To me son, his was a nuisance.
the most prominent reason is that the liver is on the right sight and especially if you have fatty-liver disease, you dont want to have weight pressing on that liver as you sleep.
When left nostril is up it flows more freely which promotes awareness to automatically move to the internal/introvert mode….. thus promoting deeper sleep.
Sorry that's happened for you,...I wonder if putting a pillow under your left thigh / buttock to take the pressure off where the bulge is could help maybe
I've slept on right side for 🤔 probably 40 years. I snore. Lately, I've been sleeping on my back all night, and I've not been snoring. I think thats kinda weird.
I'm taking science with a grain of salt lately, especially after reading Dr. Kieth Scott-Mumby's "Medicine Beyond". But the monk's absolutely correct about the acid reflux.
Because it’s the best way in many respects. Promotes meditative sleep. Takes weight off of the heart. Opens breath through the left nostril promoting introspective orientation.
I suffer a lot of reflux which was waking me up at night., was told by my specialist to sleep on the left started doing this and the reflux reduced significantly.
Just grateful to get to sleep at all in any position..
I've never been able to sleep on my left side. I've spent my entire life (81) sleeping on my right side. Works for me.

Sleeping on your left side makes sense if your right shoulder is in pain!
I sleep half on the left and half on my right or back but will try . more on the left.
It doesn't matter how you sleep.
The world needs more content like this. Thank you for being a beacon of peace. 🌼
Thank you 😊🙏

I had no idea that sleeping on your left side could have such amazing benefits! Thank you for breaking this down so clearly.
I sleep left and right wherever I'm comfortable and can sleep well as long as I have a good night sleep
For many years have always slept on my left side. Totally unaware of the benefits, but my Dr says I am pretty health for my age.

When I go to bed, I start out on my right side for a few minutes. Afterwards I switch to the left side
What if you are left handed? After my chiro cured me of sleeping on my stomach I have been preferring my left side. HOEVER I have about 3 minor afflictions on my left side that frequently tell me it's time to change. I think this is something to explore further. I've alternated sleeping on both left & right sides for years. To be honest I have not noticed any difference in my sleep quality.

When left nostril is up it flows more freely which promotes awareness to automatically move to the internal/introvert mode….. thus promoting deeper sleep.
What about the thyoride
Yes it's true !!😊😊
Five months ago I had my left kidney removed . Now I have a buldge on my left side . Now it feels quite uncomfertible to sleep on my left side ...
Sorry that's happened for you,...I wonder if putting a pillow under your left thigh / buttock to take the pressure off where the bulge is could help maybe
Interestingly, the Islamic tradition also mentioned the benefits of sleeping on the left side.
i thought Prophet PBUH said to sleep on the right side.
Right side
At last I'm doing something right 😂❤
I've slept on right side for 🤔 probably 40 years. I snore. Lately, I've been sleeping on my back all night, and I've not been snoring. I think thats kinda weird.
NOW, has this been scientifically proven?
I'm taking science with a grain of salt lately, especially after reading Dr. Kieth Scott-Mumby's "Medicine Beyond". But the monk's absolutely correct about the acid reflux.
No!
Dr Alan Mandell (Motivational doc) has also said this to be true
Yes !!!
I sleep deeper on the left
Question: Why do pictures and statues of the sleeping Buddha show he slept on the RIGHT side?
I have have same question.
@@NokNoyWhitePigeon LOL , he didn't talk to the right monk
THAT'S WHAT I WAS WAITING FOR 😊
If you sleep on your right side your heart is on the upper side which alleviates pressure on it (according to my authentic Indian yoga teacher/guru.)

Stop the large captions - they wont close
I just read that the right lung is heavier than the right, and when that lung leans on the heart, it is bad.
Why Lord Budhdha slept on his right side
Because it’s the best way in many respects. Promotes meditative sleep. Takes weight off of the heart. Opens breath through the left nostril promoting introspective orientation.
❤❤❤🎉 3:43
Oh i can't concentrate on what is being said. Stop the huge captions!!!!!

Japanese monks are not yogis
All good, but really the best thing is that if you aren't sleeping on your left side some damned monk will come in and slap you awake.
Always sleep on the right side.
If you suffer from acid reflux the left side is better.Search.Stay healthy.
Buddha died from an illness, the nature of which remains unsettled.....
Tell the monks to actually work for a living.
What a bunch of BS
Because?...
I suffer a lot of reflux which was waking me up at night., was told by my specialist to sleep on the left started doing this and the reflux reduced significantly.
Please sleep on your right side learn from how Holy Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him
