  • Atlanta, Georgia’s current transit system may never compare to what it had in the first half of the 20th Century, but if you look hard enough, you can still find remnants of its forgotten lines.

    Great history lesson. I hope that Atlanta recovers its love of streetcars. We lost it in Los Angeles and the result is hours of waiting time on the freeways and limited access by some communities because the freeways do not go to their areas as the streetcars once did. I really enjoy your videos and the clear way in which you explain things. Stay safe and keep producing quality videos for the rest of us to enjoy.

    If I'm not mistaken, MARTA is planning to lay down something like 40 miles of new light rail. Hopefully ushers in a new golden age for the streetcar. Right now the system is mediocre at best, but the current system runs right by my building downtown and I'm hoping in the next 10 years ill be able to take the streetcar to get around the city!

    I possess a photograph (somewhere) taken in 1961 at the intersection of Peachtree, West Peachtree, and Baker Street showing some of the last electric line trollies in service in Atlanta.

    Like Tampa, they should've never removed the streetcar system to begin with! It would certainly help Atlanta's horrible traffic.

    My soon to be 95 year old father. Tells me he was in Korea during the war. He saw street cars on flatbed train cars. He went in them to investigate. The advertising on the walls were Atlanta businesses. He lives in Alabama. I will show him this video. Thanks

    My mom used to talk about the street cars in ATL. She lived near midtown in the mid - late 1940's and worked at American Telephone and Telegraph Co, the forerunner of AT&T

    More awesome rail history in my old stompin’ grounds! Too bad that in all the years i lived in the area, i never knew this all existed still. I figured the greater ATL powers that be would have already knocked them all down for more condo’s! Btw, do you know anything about the old trolley in Griffin,GA? Its a tattoo parlor now.

    I really like to see that this abandoned train line that it could transform to a sidewalk or walking or bicycle for the good up at to the people in for many different people that do have well relaxation starting into the abandoned train line and even to have fun and enjoy some kids riding a bicycle and even that refreshing oxygen for mother nature plants trees Flowers Garden sit down or something is could be a high line just like a New York City have one abandoned track Bow Wow and I transport into a beautiful different of unique it is if New York could do it why can't this town could do as well it's not that very difficult anyway many of people want to have more idea that why they got to do what is a bandit track of the line it is and it will be transformed into a something else I could be possible because there is more bigger space everyone should know that
    PS if the track and would right they're still there it could be saving and put it back before and after

    Can you get to that station on foot? It looks like there's a path up front, and nowhere down Marietta Rd does it say no trespassing, but it does feel very out of place to drive down it.

    • @v12productions
      @v12productions  3 года назад

      I tried, but there's a recycling facility with a fence blocking the road. I think at one time it was accessible.

      @@v12productions I drove into it yesterday in the afternoon and felt out of place, so I turned around out the gate. Apparently if you hop the guardrail under Marietta Blvd you can get down to the abandoned path that takes you right to it.
