This is great! 40 years in Japan now ... and with literally thousands of mostly jazz and Brazilian CDs in my collection, Oregon's 'Out of the Woods' is my go-to soundtrack when driving through the misty mountains west of Tokyo.
@@michaelvaladez6570 Not quite. Glen stopped because it was too hard and too expensive to travel by plane with his upright bass, from what I've heard. Besides that after so many years of travelling/touring you want to settle down a bit when you reach a certain age. Glen will be 82 this year. He is doing well, living on the 'desert plains' of New Mexico, close to nature, horses etc. Also without Glen, Oregon will sadly very likely never play live again because Paul has problems with his embouchure and can no longer play his oboe and english horn which are crucial for so many Oregon pieces. He just plays his saxophones nowadays and mostly plays in California with different projects. He just turned 76. Ralph just released a new solo album on ECM and has turned 83 this year! Amazing musicians, each one of them, pioneers and highly influential.
I shared a beer and a cigarette with Paul at the Blue Heron in Duncans Mills, CA. After hearing him play with Art Lande, five feet away from him. He is a true virtuoso. All hail Jim Pepper.
You saw The Paul Winter Consort, or Paul after the Consort days? Either way, wow -- I saw TPWC when I was a zookeeper in Atlanta and they came to play for the zoo society's Beastly Feast fundraiser. I was actually leaving because my shift just ended and I heard the wolf howl from Wolf Eyes. o of course I stayed. And I got his autograph on a paper napkin but my ex threw it out by mistake. Geesh, what I'd give now to have that again. I can't imagine having had a chance to talk with him over a beer! Lucky man,
This is only one song from Oregon´s concert at the Jazzfestival Viersen (a rather small ciity close to Dusseldorf, Germany) on 18 September 2009 and recorded by the German tv station WDR. I have been listening to the music of this outstanding group since 1978. The first record I bought was "Out of the Woods" and this song is on it. I saw them six or seven times live, three times with Collin.
Wanna get high? Drop the joint, listen to this baby! :-) Listen to the Out of the Woods version too - take you into orbit! Thank you for this gem shiveringgoat.
Was Colin Walott's neighbor in the Catskills.. one of the biggest hearts I have ever met!...Jim Pepper too...miss 'em... wish I knew them better, longer!
Walcott studied sitar with non other than Ravi Shankar himself -- and that was the beginning of my love affair with the sitar, Indian Classical music and jazz/world music! How amazing that you actually knew him!
This band is phenomenal. I don't even met people that even know who they are and then I can't get them to listen to them. They are true artists. I started listening to them from their first Album "Our First Album" and I was particularly drawn to "Canyon Song" and have been listening to them ever since. They keep getting better and better. I love their latest "Lantern".
His "Fall 77" off of the Out Of The Woods album is still my favorite. I was dragged to a concert of theirs in late 1979 or early 1980, fighting it all the way. God, I'm glad I lost that one. They are one of the most innovative bands ever.
[chuckle] This piece ... like "Icarus" or "Aurora" ... is an indelible part of Oregon's oeuvre. They have probably played it a thousand times, and likely no two times the same way, and each time brought something different and new to it. Which is why I so dearly dote on their handiwork!
Thanks for this amazing video. incredible music, Towner and his pals as always.. some of the best Jazz-Fusion and music in general period I've ever heard!
Lets remember that tenor saxophonist Jim Pepper wrote this iconic tune digging into his Native American roots. I do not see his name in the rather extensive credits scrolling by at end!
Thank you for your remembrance. Very important. This song originated from a healing prayer that his Grandfather gifted him. Its roots are holy. People should make an effort to remind and acknowledge this. Thank you so much for your remembrance. 🙏🎐✌peace and love

Oregon has been my favorite jazz band for decades and Jim Pepper's piece is just brilliant
I always really liked Ralph Towner's piano playing. (And guitar of course).
Oregon, divine music, gorgeous musicians.Thank you
Glen Moore has to be one of the most overlooked and underrated bassists of all time!
Yes he's very good!
Sad to.say from a fans point of view he is no longer in the band.He decided to move on and do some of his own interests.
I remember university times, join to f

Jim Pepper LIVES! And long live Oregon, the magicians of instrumental world-folk-jazz.
I've been listening to Oregon since 1983 And I am still amazed every time, ¡Fantástico!
Soul healing, thanks so much for what you guys play! Feel the love and grace in the music!

I saw Oregon in 1983 hot summer in Freiburg in the "Zelt Musik Festival". It was amazing.

@@cathytai I was referring to Paul McCandless.
An absolute evergreen, played as ever, brilliantly by this under acknowledged ground breaking group!

What a gorgeous rendition of this monumental, yet humble Native American tune. Oregon, supreme and sublime! Thank you!

Glen Moore is a fantastic bass player.
Orego has performed this piece thousand times, every time different!
Still miss the great percussion of Colin Walcott!

The virtuoso above all others!
Yeah, I've seen them 8-10 times with both Colin and Trilok. This guy sucks.

They found yet another to play this wonderful piece. Distinct and just as good as their past performances.
Thank you!
PAUL McCANDLESS - reeds, oboe que impresionante este Paul que Dios lo tenga en la Gloria:)
He also played recorder.
How does McCandless get such a beautiful sound out of that nino...Oregon are great.
C'est tellement, tellement beau...
🙏🙏♥️peaceful respect and love ❤️. Thank you Oregon
Preciosidad de composición. Belleza infinita.
Saw them at Jazz Alley in Seattle at random back in 2011 on a spontaneous vacation. Been a fan ever since.
sonido y música del carajo!!! gracias por algo tan bello, mi mas profunda admiración por Oregon .
I've heard excellent play on recorder. this man brings it to life
Perhaps a penny whistle?
Definitely a penny whistle.

Genios!!!! Son unos fenómenos de otro planeta. No exagero, Ralph es Dios!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This setup reminds a little of Keith Jarrets collaboration/band with Gary,Jack and Dewey!
Simply Brilliant!!!
Loved it.
Was fortunate to see the PWC perform at Kansas State University, back around 1977.
Wow, l’m so glad I listened to this.

Distinguished , brilliant , simple !
這幾位樂手都是歐洲當代聞名人物,軟體大多是由ECM公司錄製,品質一值得推薦。
My God----Paul McCanless and Ralph Towner!!!!!!
Wonderful group. the best jazz for long.
This is also good.
Thank you for the musical piece.
This tune reminds me something of Flecktones, mostly because of Paul's playing!
Gracias Oregon! la belleza existe!
Bravissimi!

THANK YOU VERRY MUCH ITS A GOOD EARLY MORNING SUND
Listen to norwegian Jan Garbarek group. They found the essence of the melody! I have been fan of this song for 40 years. Still it gives me chills.
brilliant!
OMG, BRAVO!
Interesting that Towner has to adjust his attack on the piano keys so he can maintain good fingernails for guitar. Mastery indeed!
Thanks for the interesting observation. Yes, looks like he has to keep his left-hand fingers straight and flat!
Egberto Gismonti too!

What reed instruments do you play?
Paul McCandless: Yes.
grazie stupendo
What is the instrument that Paul plays starting at 4:05. What a talent he is! Love Ralph's piano too.
Frula, Balkan flute most associated with Serbia
@@muopos Thank you. To my knowledge, Ralph has never released an Lp of solo piano, which is unfortunate.
In which album we can listen to this version of the tune? I've listened to the one in the album "Live at Yoshi's" but it's not so great as this one.

..like a Requiem... RIP, Jim. ^..^
OREGON is the best
nice version
RALPH TOWNER.
That is all.
Massive.
bravooo
When and where this recording comes from?
What is that signature chord sub that Ralph uses all the time? It's such an Oregon trademark.
