Live at Viersen (Germany) 28 th International Jazz Fest 2009 Ralph Towner: guitar Paul Mc Candless: soprano sax Glen Moore: bass Mark Walker: drums 3sat - www.3sat.de
Great too they carry the same spirit and inspiration over decades. We're privileged to be still alive and experience this pure and free musical expression. These people must feel alive mostly when they're playing!
McCandless is one of the most lyrical saxophone players ever. Such a unique voice. Huge influence on me. I've never thought he got the respect he deserved.
Conosco gli Oregon da molti anni, e non mi hanno mai stancato. Si sono sempre rinnovati, mantenendo quella freschezza e purezza. La musica che esprimono è piena di bellezza e poesia.
amazed he can play so clear and loud with no feedback, from the PA anyway, plenty from the audience. Towner is a hero from the '70s..here I am 40 years later still enthralled
Maestro Ralph Towner composition "IF" is another delight of classical meets jazz meets influx of Brazilian music.Have seen this group many times in the past and they never disappointed anyone's expectations in concert.Thank you for this post, wonderful.!!!!
Another in a very long list of superb Oregon performances of beautiful and amazing Ralph Towner compositions. Great recording and production of the performance as well, just as much an art.
Who wants the same band for 40 years? They've moved on and grown musically. And there is no better drummer/percussionist than Mark Walker, so they are in great company.
You, too, eh? _Distant Hills_ was my introduction to Oregon, back in 1976, with that marvelous track, "Aurora," never mind the rest of the album! I've been hooked ever since!
Even listening, and seeing Oregon in the 80's at The Bottom Line, and My Father's Place,, this still reminds me how beautiful their music is and that Ralph is still so talented, it's sickening (that's a huge compliment). What a unique and talented group of players. Stay safe.
What we need now is for someone to put together ... oh, say, 90 minutes to two hours of Oregon ... LIVE ... and release it on DVD and/or Blu-Ray. I think we'd get some sales, certainly if this and other live performances I've seen on RUclips were included!
Yeah Mike it is magic, and thats whats makes us living in a very wondefull way, as long we let it happen. Thank you very much for posting guitarrazurda.
It's interesting to play Al Demiolas version of Ralphs song then play Ralph Towner play it. and you really see how limitted Al Demiola is with a plectrum compared to Towner who has total freedom and no limitations, what I find most amazing about Ralph Towner is he can play all that with the most incredible feeling and heart he is truely a ledgend
I'm glad that Di Meola plays with a pick rather than finger pick, because playing with a pick is a part of his unique style. I wonder why Di Meola likes this song so much. I like Di Meola's compositions, and Astor Piazolla's compositions more.
Both excellent musicians to be sure. Both bring something special with their playing style . Then you get someone like Tommy Emmanuel who can do both, play with finger picks, no picks, or plectrum. All brilliant players though. I'm a huge fan of Ralph and always have been. He brings more of a piano style due to his experiences with that instrument early on. Always a delight to see and hear. Particularly in person.
These amazing guys -- I have been a fan since I heard "Icarus" in high school -- tour almost exclusively in Europe, I presume, because they cannot make a living doing so in the US. I'm not sure I want to know what that says about us Americans. My $.02. Thanks for reading this. Well, I have to get back to watching TV and reading People Magazine now.
@@paxwallacejazz Yes, I’m sure he knows they’re all American … I believe the core of the comment, tho, was that Americans are lazy listeners, and have little appreciation for Oregon’s music … justly, it’s hard to categorize, a trait that they’ve encountered their entire career … that said, Americans are wholly not used to concentrating on music past the three minute mark … a trait that Europeans and Indians don’t suffer from
This is a superb performance, but i must admit to preferring 'If' played solo by Ralph - that for me fully brings out the full wistfulness of the piece.
Watched him in a private concert in my buddy Jason's vineyard in Ukiah California in 2011. Great musicianship. Better still, amazing human being. Very respectful and humble. Thanked me personally for being a fan of the Paul Winter Consort and the Oregon.
+Tim White Thanks Tim,it seems to be hard to find,i understand never released on cd.iTUNES does have it though!any more suggestions appreciated.thanks alot,Tony
The album, "Prime," which this piece came from, would be an excellent starting point. I also highly recommend "Live at Yoshi's," a blend of new works and some old classics, performed at the well-known jazz house. Got lots more ideas if you need 'em!
@@Troubleshooter125 Prime is such a stunning recording!!! And Oregon In Performance is the first Oregon album I ever heard, my favorite version of Icarus is on that one. I asked Ralph about that record after a show and he said he didn't remember tha album!
This is excellent, but I sure miss Colin Walcott. Instead of bringing a drummer, I wish they had brought in another tabla player. That was a distinctive part of their sound.
❤❤❤ I WAS THERE, RIGHT UP FRONT and I just couldn'tbvelieve what my ears were hearing, ... such wonderful music, I'll never forget 🤗 😍
Ralph Towner , one of the great composers of modern music. Oregon, one of the great music group of the modern era.!!!!
give him, and them for that matter, the Kennedy honor recognition they deserve as musical treasures
No one... I mean NO ONE can rock a nylon stringed guitar like Ralph Towner! his solo at 4 minutes is amazing
Paco de Lucia, Tomatito, Manolo Sanlucar, Yamandú Costa, Raphael Rabello, Paco Cepero and so on
Maravilloso poder volver escuchar a Oregon y a Ralph Towner con su música ecléctica y llena de lirismo y poesía. Muchas gracias!
He also has the most beautiful classical baroque tone and lyrical voice playing the oboe.
A huge musical influence on my life-and he was instrumental in helping me land a few great gigs. What an awesome musician.
You are spot on, I believe he one of the greatest wind players and not just the soprano but he oboe sound is gorgeous. He is the voice of Oregon.

We fully agree
Transcendental, utterly beautiful, piece of music, performed at an awe inspiring level.
Couldn’t agree more
Some of the greatest musicians to walk the Earth.
I just wish more people made music like this. Virtuosity, beauty, delight. Too many drum loops, babble and noise put out lately lacking true talent.
First Time a friend shows me Oregón I Said waw I Do that again 35 Years passed... Thanks
Nice to hear full band treatment of this beautiful Towner solo piece
Another in a very long list of superb Oregon performances of beautiful and amazing Ralph Towner compositions. Great recording and production of the performance as well, just as much an art.
Col. Bruce Hampton said it, and I agree: "Oregon is the greatest musical group in the world. No doubt. Absolutely no doubt about it."
Bruce would of known!
Zambi!
Is this real? Can't be. Simply amazing.
I love the guitar of Ralph Towner
Absolute testament to Ralph's playing that he sounds as good live if not better!!!!
Saw them live that year. Changed my musical perception and appreciation forever...
How can four musicians create such a wonderful piece? Must be magic!
+Mike Ze Agreed! Totally underrated band. A longtime favourite of mine.
Mike Ze - yes! They ARE magic! And who cares what ratings say ! True musicologists don’t need ratings. We have EARS and minds 💕❤️
All those decades ago when everyone else was listening to Pink Floyd I was listening to Ralph and Glen on Trios Solos (ECM Records)
Meeetooo bro
How I love ❤️ Towners guitar style and his hands in motion...
Desde los 70' que escucho está gran banda y cada día siento que tocan mejor.
Great organic artisan music. Masterfully rendered.
Ralph Towner... Beautifully done!!
Always great musicians, but also a great regret. Colin Walcott, we miss you
Colin Walcott died. Oregon is alive. Face it.
Who wants the same band for 40 years? They've moved on and grown musically. And there is no better drummer/percussionist than Mark Walker, so they are in great company.
So much talent resolving into such a singular sound...
A present of a friend of my parents, I was just 16 years old, I feel even today this peace of mind when the music of Oregon affects me
It took me a while to warm up to Oregon's later stuff, but this is one of the songs that really works for me. Paul's also in fine form.
The Oregon won my everlasting admiration and gratitude with "Distant Hills" since 1973.
You, too, eh? _Distant Hills_ was my introduction to Oregon, back in 1976, with that marvelous track, "Aurora," never mind the rest of the album! I've been hooked ever since!
For me it was "Out of the Woods." Been here ever since.
Beauty in it's purest form.
Oregon, the band, rocks, rolls and swings. Yes, they do.
Sublime.
His guitar sounds so beautiful!
Great Music!!! Great Musicians !!! Fantastic Ralph!
Wow, great recording. Sounds like it was through the board. Wonderful performance too.
fantastic musicians
Even listening, and seeing Oregon in the 80's at The Bottom Line, and My Father's Place,, this still reminds me how beautiful their music is and that Ralph is still so talented, it's sickening (that's a huge compliment).
What a unique and talented group of players. Stay safe.
Epps and my father's place. Many a good gig was had by all
parten el corazón de emoción y alegría!
Se la ascolto DEVO sorridere PER FORZA ... ☺️
Maestro!!
São super músicos! Que maravilha! Obrigada a quem enviou e me deu a chance de curtir o Oregon! Quanto tempo não ouvia!!
Just brilliant
Such beautiful music can be listened to many times!
This is real music!
As emotions start, words stop.
I remember Ralph with Paul Winter back in the 60's. Magic then Magic now :-)
Way more innovative after left Paul Winter &Oregon formed. Went beyond the New age #$%& & very inventive & went somewhere.
this sound it'so warm and relaxing.i love this guys
LO MEJOR DEL MUNDO MUNDIAL¡¡¡¡¡¡
Das Konzert habe ich seiner Zeit in Göttingen gesehen. Super genial.
Excellent!!!
Magic!

grazie veramente bello. Mutatis mutandis, è come negli anni '70.
Belobelíssimo ! ❤
Gracias!!! and thank you Oregon!!!!
Yeah Mike it is magic, and thats whats makes us living in a very wondefull way, as long we let it happen. Thank you very much for posting guitarrazurda.
Fantastic! Ralph at his best! Nice interplay between the other band members!
Stan Aoki -yay Towner ! Genius
Beautiful.
Beautiful..
Wonderful Oregon............
Towner POWER!!!
I just saw Al Dimeola this week and he played 'If" for his solo on the classical guitar Great!!
great stuff from RT with Oregon...thanx!

Is mostly about the choice of interpretation.... :) Technique is just a way to achieve a musical intention...

Oregon is DELIGHT in sound ... and here in this video is proof enough.

Saw the Montreal Jazz Fest version!!...
Lentamente verso un sereno sogno. Fantastic
Excelente.Como siempre sorprenden. Bendiciones.
Wonderful!!
very inspiring
Einfach schön!
Ja, sicher!!!
Wonderfull
Oh!, and they groove.
bellissima.
Such great fearlessly melodic music.. Love Ralph! Anyone know if they did a live version I could find of the tune 'Yet To Be'?
Patrick Johnson - yes, I adore Ralph as well. ❤️
Keen! anybody in Dallas Fort Worth who would like to play like this?
wooooow
Agreed, the Walcott days were generally much better, but this is a delightful tune and Towner / McCandless are in top form!
It's on "Prime"
Superbe !
This is a superb performance, but i must admit to preferring 'If' played solo by Ralph - that for me fully brings out the full wistfulness of the piece.
grande livello!
well, "If" this is a from an Oregon record I musta missed it. I only know of it from a recent Towner solo cd
didnt had idea of how good oregon is .
The sad and merry mixed together
McCandless really great on here with a soprano, and funny how his upper register sounds like an oboe anyway.
Watched him in a private concert in my buddy Jason's vineyard in Ukiah California in 2011. Great musicianship. Better still, amazing human being. Very respectful and humble. Thanked me personally for being a fan of the Paul Winter Consort and the Oregon.
Mostruoso livello musicale, ascolta e zitto
Nice 5/4!!...
very fine
HI,
i enjoyed what little i have heard from this band! can someone recommend a cd i could use as an intro to this fine band? thanks in advance!
+mapp47 defintely "Out of the Woods".
+Tim White

they need to put RT's left hand in the smithsonian someday! good lord is his facility amazing!
But then he wouldn't sound like Al Di Meola then? A pick is to the guitarist, what a bow is to a violinist.
This is excellent, but I sure miss Colin Walcott. Instead of bringing a drummer, I wish they had brought in another tabla player. That was a distinctive part of their sound.
Tämmösien kanssa kasvoin
man okay there are difference between pick and finger... but i never heard of guitarist named "Al Demiolas" LOL kiddin eh :)
My thoughts exactly.
Step one for Al Di Meola: lose the pick
