    Favourite moment, 10min32sec: Johnny- "Is this like the Trabant of the motorbike world...?" Cue tumbleweed. Cue wind, whistling. Cue everybody freezing in the Bosch display tent... Johnny (in full on Hugh Grant mode)- "No... which is... no, it's...like an icon, it's a... cult... thing. (pause) I like Trabants". Lovely stuff guys.

    The innovation and speed in which new electric mobility products are coming to market in Europe is amazing. Not including Tesla where is the innovation in the US? Thanks Jonny Smith for another great video. Also saw Robert today on video being interviewed at another event in London. You both really get around and make an excellent team.

      Yes its great but try to buy one if you dont live on the west coast. Its not yet available in most states. The hyperloop is moving forward now since a large investment has been made by billionaire Richard Branson an english business man. There is a new high speed Japanese train that is going to be built from Houston Texas to Dallas. Thats all good. All Im saying is that it seems some American companies are not moving as fast as other parts of the world toward supporting new mobility innovations. Dont want to see the US fall behind.

    Wow, I'm searching for all those eAxle / eAchse articles I could find and of course fullycharged delivers a first hand experience. You are such a great source for all things electric! Very well done! My idea is to retrofit one of the eAxle to a '82 VW T3 van to power the front axle. Make it a diesel-electric hybrid. Just a small electric engine in the front to move around the city. Saving the original 35 year old diesel engine on short routes. Using the diesel for the long road trips between cities to charge the battery for smooth and quiet rides through the city center.

      Zen Zen good job too. After all Bosch basically killed the diesel market (which in my eyes is a good thing). It was their diesel FIE that caused the VW scandal. Their engineers would have designed the emission mapping. Glad they did. This stuff looks great. Shame it’s not yet being offered to after market as conversion kits.

      You have to keep in mind, the people from Bosch in this video are not normal marketing idiots.
      Their job is to sell these complex systems to other industrial users.
      You can't use booby barbies and business clowns for this. That's why this all sounds nice, cause they know what they are talking about.
      BTW, the car which was shown is real:
      www.e-go-mobile.com/en/models/e.go-life/
      It was developed at the university campus in Aachen and a lot of the team members worked on the streetscooter before:

      trabant is not car, trabant is shit,but from then industry menager perspective given task is to make a car for 4 people,with awerage consumption 3-4 lit. without steel ? without almost any ressource in all fields but man power? in very short time...abstract reality ...trabant is a "car" in that reality show ...

    • @andrasbiro3007
      @andrasbiro3007 6 лет назад

      I had an accident in a Trabant, but fortunately the speed was low, so nobody was injured.
      And I don't think ours ever managed to get above 100 kph, so testing it's top speed wasn't an issue. And you really felt the speed, it was very loud and vibrated like crazy (two-stroke engine), so you didn't want to drive fast anyway. And it was barely able to accelerate (26hp engine). That made it much safer, it was hard to go fast enough for lethal accidents.

    • @TerraPosse
      @TerraPosse 6 лет назад

      @ Harry M: They weren't quite that bad. I was a passenger in an accident once with 5 of us in a Trabant. Hitting a boar at about 70 kph. We all walked away shaken but unscathed including the boar. The Trabant on the other hand was a write-off.
      Between 110 and 125 kph was a normal top speed for Trabants. We were just as prolific at breaking speed limits back then with Trabants as we are today. And the fuzz was just as diligent, if somewhat more inept, at catching us doing it.

    I own an original 2-stroke Simson Schwalbe from 1985 - as much as I love the modernisation of the drivetrain and the fact that there are no emissions: it's prohibitively expensive for a scooter (starts at over 5000€) and I don't see a huge target market. Obviously reliability should be great, but I'll miss being able to 'screw around' and fix things myself. Also - my Schwalbe has more power, range and a top speed of ~65km/h! Seems like a toy for those who can afford it, not a way to get youngsters moving on the cheap. If this changes in the future, I won't hesitate to grab one! Thanks for another great video. - Timothy

    great video Jonny I love the direction this technology is going, the more open source modular thinking helps the industry grow beyond the major manufactures. I love the mad inverter types but very little of what they create in their sheds ever gets to be a marketable product. example is that East German scooter if you had to design build & test a drive system from scratch it just wouldn't be viable.

    I like the idea of the E-Axle and thinking it would be ideal for the kit car market if battery packs could be made available off the shelf as well.

    But why are electric scooters in China $500 but in the West $5,000?

      allocater2 For starters the batteries. The cheap Chinese scooters have large, bulky and heavy deep cycle lead acid batteries. While the more expensive western brands use Lithium Ion 18650 battery cells. The same type batteries used in laptops and by Tesla.

    I find it hilarious that a European company uses our trusty "Mile" instead of Easy Kilometre! :)

    That autonomous bus would be perfect for getting people from the parking lot to the mall/shopping center/IKEA :-)

    This opens up a whole other facet of the electrification movement: "ICE conversions". Fascinating and exciting. Imagine facing the option of totaling your 10 year old ICE car due to a failed transmission or blown engine OR converting it to all electric and driving it for another 100K+ miles. Game changing.
