Just a correction.. The other meaning of the word "laal" Is yes indeed son, but here she is saying "Nand ke laal" Which is referring to Lord Krishna meaning "O! son of Nand" - " Krishna".
In India the word "Laal" Used to refer to one's kid is a very very loving word! Like if mother wants to pamper the child she will call her "O! My Laal". So basically Laal is only used when mumma is really really in a good mood and wants to pamper you🥰🥰

Yes!!! SLB actually always has a couple of gems in his soundtracks which never make it to the main movie - even Saawariya had a couple. There was another one in this - Fitoori, which is just as gorgeous! There were rumours that Aishwarya was going to do a special appearance song in this movie as he originally envisaged her as his Mastaani, but was later shelved. I always wonder if either one of these 2 songs would've been actually shot with Ash how epic it would have been!

I think they're able to deliver such a complex, multi-meaningful, elaborate piece that makes sense and really sits-in together because everyone involved from the set director to the choreographer and the music faculty is aware of each other's craft and expectation of the bits and parts because of which it's not just monochronic view but a synchrony of harmonized facets that really sings together towards perfection.

Thanks, the song means color me red, is in a semi classical Thumri (romantic-devotional) style based on love of Radha & Krishna called Nand, laal here is endearing term for child a boy too. Sanjay Bhansali is very meticulous in all details of his films. You are right it showcases her attraction & expresses love, interest in Bajirao. It was choreographed by the late legendary Pandit Birju Maharaj, a Master in Kathak classical Indian dance. He taught Deepika the basic mudra (movement-poses) Shreya is lovely as always, she is the best in portraying these unique beautiful classically led songs, she has indicated her voice and Deepika's face have become quite synonymous, a constant with each other over the years, from Om Shanti Om to Bajirao Mastani to Padmaavat films.

Thank you for doing this on public demand even if you've already seen the movie and reviewed it!😃I was so mesmerized by this song when I first saw it in theatre on a big screen (it wasn't released on TV and youtube till much after the film's release) for the first time! Especially the opening notes and birds chirping - just perfectly recreates the early morning ambience! It's a tour de force with Shreya & Pandit Birju Maharaj on vocals, Sanjay Leela Bhansali (SLB) as director and composer, Panditji as choreographer as well. This choreo is based on the dance form called Kathak (same as in the three sisters video including Neeti Mohan that you saw). ANd you are right, not just Deepika, but SLB is known for extracting the brst out of his female actors - leads and supporting - in terms of presenting them beautifully - both aesthetically and in a performative sense. Aishwarya Rai was his initial muse - you've seen a couple of songs from SLB-Aishwarya collaboration (Devdas movie - Dola re dola, Silsila ye chahat ka - the one with the lamp). Also, fun fact from IMDb - The track "Mohe Rang Do Laal" was composed when Bhansali was waiting at the airport after his flight got cancelled.😂😂😂

Dance, music and drama are traditionally the three pillars of Indian theatre. So, all Indian classical dancers are trained to be expressive. If you like an untrained dancer like Deepika, you will be blown away by the actual trained dancers. Pandit Birju Maharaj (the one doing the bol for the taal or soniquete in the song) is one such trained classical dancer and is also the choreographer for this song. All the expressiveness is choreographed and should be credited to him. Sargam is a short form of Sa Re Ga Ma (the first four notes of the musical scale). It basically refers to the exploration of melody using musical notes. It always comprises of some combination of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni (the seven musical notes equivalent to the western Do Re Me Fa So La Ti). Any other sound that you hear is most likely representing the taal or rhythm.

The dance form used in this song is kathak.. So just after the vocals by legendary shreya ghosal ends, you will hear great kathak legend birju maharaj's part.. That part is actually not sargam but the dancing phrase that we usually use in kathak as 'bol'
