- Welcome to our Songs of the Year series. Today we're looking at 2016!
Every Friday we will each be choosing our favorite songs of a year, starting in 1958 and going all the way through 2021. We will be making five selections from the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Any song that broke the Hot 100 at any point during the year is eligible. After that we'll be making five more 'wildcard' selections. These picks can come from anywhere. They could've charted as well, but they could also be album cuts, from soundtracks, b-sides...anything at all. And lastly, we'll also be choosing our least favorite song to crack the Top 40.

Best of 2016. I don't think any of these charted, but I've kind of abandoned that at this point.
1.Masterpiece - Big Thief
2. Shut Up Kiss Me - Angel Olsen
3. Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales - Car Seat Headrest
4. Berlin Got Blurry - Parquet Courts

7. True Love Waits - Radiohead
8. Fill in the Blank - Car Seat Headrest
9. Me & Magdelena - The Monkees
10. Destroyed By Hippie Powers - Car Seat Headrest
I tend to crap on the mid 2010s a lot, but there are some excellent tunes here. "Masterpiece" in particular is definitely one of my favorite songs of the decade and one of my favorite songs ever about the loss of a loved one from one of the best bands making music right now.
1) Burn the Witch - Radiohead
2) Idlewild - Travis (w/ Josephine Oniyama)
3) They Don't Own Me - Richard Ashcroft
4) Spectre - Radiohead
5) Empty - Garbage
6) Ghengis Khan - Mike Snow
7) 96 - Turin Brakes
8) Present Tense - Radiohead
9) The Last Stand - Sabaton

13) True Love Waits - Radiohead
14) Hold On - Richard Ashcroft

Leonard Cohen 'You want it darker' is my song of the year.
Fifth Harmony ft Ty Dollar Sign 'Work from home' is also a great pop song

2) "Blackstar" - David Bowie
3) "Atlas, Rise" - Metallica
4) "Ever South" - Drive By Truckers
5) "Adventure of a Lifetime" - Coldplay

9) "Hands of Time" - Margo Price

Guys, I didn’t discover your channel until you were about halfway through the Album of the Year series. That was great fun while it lasted but I have definitely enjoyed this current series even more.
By just listening to individual songs, instead of full albums, I have been able to discover a lot of excellent music that was new to me, via yourselves as well as many of your very knowledgeable followers. I can’t wait to see what you have planned next because Fridays wouldn’t be the same without the TLM community. Cheers.
Congrats on the 11k subscribers guys!! So well deserved. Greatest RUclips channel. Way to go!!
Thanks!
The Sound and She's American by The 1975 are my favourite songs from them. I was actually listening to The 1975 this week so it was great to see them here.
2016 is an improvement over recent years;
5.Dollar Days-David Bowie
4.Burn the Witch-Radiohead
3.Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales-Car Seat Headrest
2.The Skeleton Tree-Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
1.Lazarus-David Bowie
1. Heron Oblivian-Beneath Fields. The most obvious description might be Pentangle meets Crazy Horse.
2. David Bowie-Lazarus. Listened to the album a couple times a day that weekend it came out. I figured my favorite radio station was just celebrating the release of the new album and decided to play a Bowie block, until the DJ came on with the news.
3. Shirley Collins- Awake Awake /The Split Ash Tree/ May Carol /Southover. Medley of traditional songs from her first album in over 30 years.
4.Idris Ackamoor and the Pyramids-Clarion Call
5. Mekons-Flowers Of Evil Part 2
6. Wussy- Hello, I'm A Ghost
7. Cate Le Bon-Find Me
8. Terry-Don't Say Sorry
9. Say "No!" to Architecture- Bullet-Proof Liquor Store, MD. Could the name of the band AND the song title be more cumbersome?
10. The Monkees-You Bring The Summer. Once I found out that Andy Partridge wrote this I couldn't help but hear XTC in my head.
11. Tacocat-Men Explain Things To Me
12. Swans-The World Looks Red/ The World Looks Black
13. ESP Ohio-Miss Hospital '93
14. Alejandro Escovedo-Johnny Volume
15. Thee Oh Sees- At The End, On The Stairs
16. Beach Slang-Art Damage
17. Coathangers-Down Down
18. Night Beats-Egypt Berry
19. Cat's Eyes- Girl In The Room
20. Car Seat Headrest-Destroyed By Hippie Powers
21. Marissa Nadler-Hungry Is The Ghost
22. Fat White Family-Tinfoil Deathstar
23. Shackelton /Ernetso Tomasini- Rinse Out All Containments
24. Parquet Courts-Berlin Got Blurry

34. Half Japanese-We Cannot Miss

36. Wire-Still
37. Rangda-Mondays Are Free At The Hermetic Museum
38. 75 Dollar Bill-I'm Not Trying To Wake Up
39. Dinosaur Jr.- Love Is...
40. The I Don't Cares- Love Out Loud. Woulda forgot about this one if I hadn't heard it on the radio the other day.
Nice list. Many I missed but good to see some Shackleton love and he has some great albums to come, especially the two Tunes of Negation releases, Primal Forms, Sferic Ghost Transmits and Departing Like Rivers. The only recent one I struggle with is Behind The Glass.
Great list Jason- I would swap out Andy Shauf The Magician for your song of the year though- appreciate the ones I had not heard before
"'Everything happens for a reason' doesn't mean a goddamn thing" - so true.
" Never Get Out Of The Boat .. Absolutely Goddamn Right ! Unless You Were Going All The Way "
2016 was a year of personal ups and downs. Some standout music nonetheless and a few favorites in no particular order-
Blackstar or Lazarus : David Bowie
Gamma Knife : King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
Distant Sky : Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (a few contenders from this great album)
Sister : Angel Olsen
Cranes in the Sky : Solange
Do You Need My Love : Weyes Blood
Private Execution : The Drones
Brooklands : Big Big Train (on the surface just a fairly decent neo prog song but special to me as it helped me stay positive as my first wife began to fade before she left me when cancer finally had its way.)
Dust : Lucinda Williams
Bells Burp : NV
Hungry Is the Ghost : Marissa Nadler
In Care of 8675309 : Lambchop
Hands of Time : Margo Price
Filaments : Shearwater
Could have picked great tracks from Radiohead, Neurosis, Danny Brown, Swans, Big Thief.
I do love the “sycophantic, prophetic, Socratic junkie wannabe” lyrics from The Sound, so that’s definitely my winner this week
Here are some of my favourite songs of 2016: Simulation by Avenged Sevenfold, Holy Roller by Black Collar Union, War by Sum 41, Nothing Compares 2 U by Chris Cornell (the studio version as heard as a tribute to Prince in 2016) (it also appears on the 2020 album No One Sings Like You Anymore, Vol. 1), Blackstar and Lazarus by David Bowie, Prayers/Triangles by Deftones, Bang Bang by Green Day, Take Me by Korn, Atlas, Rise! by Metallica, White Wine Spritzer by Okilly Dokilly, Prophets of Rage by Prophets of Rage, In a World Possessed By the Human Mind by The Tragically Hip, Heathens by twenty one pilots, Sleeping Dogs (feat. Corey Taylor) by Zakk Wylde, Afraid of Heights, Ghost Ship of Cannibal Rats and Louder Than the DJ by Billy Talent, Dark Necessities by Red Hot Chili Peppers and Bored to Death by blink-182.
starting this year, all of my song picks are songs i heard when they were released :) 2016 was not a great year for me but there were quite a few albums i really enjoyed...my top 10 of 2016 in no order:
Teenage Fanclub- Thin Air
Radiohead- Daydreaming
Anderson .Paak- Come Down
Lucinda Williams- Dust
Parquet Courts- Berlin Got Blurry
Big Thief- Masterpiece
Mitski- Your Best American Girl
Dinosaur Jr.- Tiny
Angel Olsen- Never Be Mine
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds- Rings of Saturn

Greetings from Canary Islands
@bender rodriguez - Your #1 is excellent! Love when the riff comes in after that funky intro
Congratulations. Perfect blend of outlooks and opinions. Here since 3K. Now you’re filling a good size venue every week☺️keep the faith.
Kudos to Jason’s vision (except for new morning- you took one too many for the team there)
Time for Van Morrison?

1. Lazarus - David Bowie
I wouldn't say any of these track are top from the artist or band of all time but still very respectable after their years in the business. I think older artists music is a lot better than most give them credit for. While not top 10 tracks worthy of their catalogs.. Still better than lots they did before.
Geez,can't believe my album of the decade ,Burn Something Beautiful-Alejandro Escavedo came out in '16(thought was '17); Probably the best year of the decade,at least for the top. Revised top 5;
5.Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales-Car Seat Headrest
4.The Skeleton Tree-Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
3.Lazarus-David Bowie
2.Horizontal-Alejandro Escavedo
1.Johnny Volume-Alejandro Escavedo
This is the year I tuned out all popular music... and every year after that.
The world needs more people like you. Taste is the only thing that there's just too little of. We got mountains and hillsides enough the climb; there are cornfields and wheatfields enough to grow but if you wanna know (we all know this song).
@@oppothumbs1 We need more film snobs too. Do you own anything released by The Criterion Collection?
Yes! Ful Stop is my fave Radiohead song ever. Good call!!

BILLBOARD
1. WINNER: *Redbone by Childish Gambino #12* (Fantastic single updating the funk/soul genres in all the right ways.)
2. *Lazarus by David Bowie #40* (Somber, artful last hurrah from a legend.)
3. *Me and Your Mama by Childish Gambino #68* (An instant psychedelic soul classic.)
4. *We the People by A Tribe Called Quest #77* (Absolutely killer hip hop track that sounds like never missed a beat from their 90s heyday.)
5. *I Feel It Coming by The Weeknd #4* (An MJ-inspired track that was everywhere. Daft Punk in nice support.)
WILDCARD
1. *Present Tense by Radiohead* (The beautiful, folky side of a group that continues to deliver.)
2. *She'll Kill You by Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein* (Stunning synthwave from the original Stranger Things soundtrack that leaves you wanting more.)
3. *Burn the Witch by Radiohead* (String use reminiscent of Hounds of Love, and another haunting Thom vocal.)
4. *Cold Little Heart by Michael Kiwanuka* (Classic soul. Love those angelic backing vocals.)
5. *I Can't Give Everything Away by David Bowie* (Another arresting track from his swan song.)
Top 10 Wildcard HM:
How Lucky Am I? by The Lemon Twigs
Not so sure about depth, but at the top these may be some of the most artistically viable chart picks in some time. I have a feeling there are probably other gems to be discovered here that I just haven't encountered yet, but it's a work in progress.
Worst TOP 40: H.O.L.Y. by Florida Georgia Line #14 (More like unholy. There were some other tracks with nearly unlistenable vocals that I considered, but this insufferable country pop takes the cake.)
Worst Runner Up:
Used to This by Future #14
Tiimmy Turner by Desiigner #34
Best Songs Matches:
*127 - Kram +2*
*105 - Joe +2*
*89 - Jason +3*

22 - Joe
*22 - Kram*
Again, a few albums dominated my list. Blackstar was my album of the year and produced three of my top ten. Angel Olsen placed two songs in the top ten and four on my extended list. This year was more memorable for who we lost than what we gained.
2016
1. Lazarus - David Bowie
2. I Can't Give Everything Away - David Bowie
3. Cold Little Heart - Michael Kiwanuka
4. Heart-Shaped Face - Angel Olsen
5. Woman -Angel Olsen
6. Happy - Mitski
7. Blackstar - David Bowie
8. Homecoming - Ray Lamontagne
9. Anyhow - Tedeschi Trucks Band
10. Cranes in the Sky - Solange
Bowie edges out Bowie for my Song of the Year.
HM - Cult - GOAT, Cactus - Last Goodbye, Metallica - Moth Into Flame, Shonen Knife - Dog Fight, Half Japanese - You and I
5. Joe Bonamassa - No Good Place for the Lonely (There are always jewels on his records even if at times his albums can be a bit too long and samey.)
4. Grant Lee Phillips - Cry Cry (Tennessee Rain was the song that initially stood out from The Narrows until this one slowly won bit by bit with each listening. This turns out to be the case with most songs on this wonderful album.)
3. Opeth - Will o the Wisp (Yes, it sounds like Jethro Tull play a Led Zeppelin III tune...which in itself is not a bad thing even if it never happened in the real world.)
2. Kristin Hersh - In Stitches (Wyatt at the Coyote Palace was an ambitious project and it was in large parts successful. This is one of its gems along with Bubble Net or Elysian Fields.)
1. Big Thief - Masterpiece (Maybe the title exaggerates a bit, it sounds like a pretty standard Neil Young song after all, but with a good female vocal and excellent lyrics.)
Jason, nice pick for Eric Bachmann. I know Eric and all of the Archers. Their first tour took them thru New Orleans, where i was living at the time. Before and after the show, my friends and I met them and hung out with them. They were planning to sleep the night in their white Econo van as they sometimes had to do due to lack of tour money, but I offered to put them up for the night at my place. They graciously accepted, and the party continued for a couple more hours before neighbors threatened to call the cops (it was a Sunday night). Anyway, we hung out with them on subsequent tours thru town. All of them really great guys.
Archers Of Loaf have a new album and are on tour. Web in Front, from their debut, is still one of the great opening album tracks. Just thinking about that song makes me want to pogo, but I'd probably pull something, at this point.
1. Glow in the Dark- Night Flowers
2. Easier Said- Sunflower Bean
3. Shut Up, Kiss Me- Angel Olsen
4. Threat of Joy- The Strokes
5. Christmas Memories- She & Him
6. I Feel It Coming- The Weeknd/Daft Punk
7. What You Talking About?- Peter Bjorn and John
8. Ways to Fake It- CRX
9. Waste a Moment- King of Leon
10. Go Robot- Red Hot Chili Peppers
My favourites for 2016:
01) Pink + White - Frank Ocean
02) Alabama - Frank Ocean
03) Burn The Witch - Radiohead
04) Familiar - Agnes Obel
05) i - Kendrick Lamar
06) My Willing Heart - James Blake
07) Human - Rag n Bone Man
08) Modern Soul - James Blake
09) Glass Eyes - Radiohead
10) Daydreaming - Radiohead
11 Spit Out the Bone -Metallica Darkened Flags on the Cusp of Dawn -Drive-By Truckers We Aren't the World(Safety Girl) -Wilco The Obsessed -Witchcraft Head Carrier -Pixies Super Massive -Spaceslug Mount Swan -Harsh Toke Riffborn -Wo Fat Acid Crusher -Earthless Fatal Illusions -Megadeth 1 I Walk For Miles -Dinosaur Jr
The Eric Bachman song is pretty good. I didn't know it. But no way it's better than any of my top 25 picks
#1 Your Best American Girl - Mitski
#2 You and I - Margaret Glaspy
#3 Not Gonna Kill You - Angel Olsen
#4 Grand Hotel - Regina Spektor
#5 Burn The Witch - Radiohead
Honourable mentions:
Ancient Jules - Steve Gunn
Happy - Mitski
Parental Guidance - Margaret Glaspy
Fill in the Blank - Car Seat Headrest
Do You Need My Love - Weyes Blood
Ful Stop is easily the best song on Moon Shaped P.
Episode: 3 stars. Solid effort.
Wow is this the first Archers of Loaf reference on the channel? One of my favorite bands and have their first record in 24 years dropping next month!
I think the second mention...I believe I mentioned them a while back as they did a show in Chicago
“Web in Front” and “Harnessed in Slums” didn’t receive nominations in their respective years, but this random/just-okay song called “Mercy” does. Weak.
Not a lot to choose from when you listen to like 5 albums in a year. It'll be that way until I find something called "Listography":
10. Roadie Man - Pretenders
9. Empty - Garbage
8. She's American - The 1975
7. New Song - Warpaint
6. Blackstar - David Bowie
5. My Church - Maren Morris
4. Anyhow - Tedeschi Trucks Band
3. Lime Habit - Polica
2. Shut Up, Kiss Me - Angel Olsen
1. Even Though Our Love Is Doomed - Garbage
My 2016 choices again include Billboard hits that wouldn’t have made the cut just 10 years ago:
Billboard:
Let It Go - James Bay
All I Ask - Adele
Wherever I Go - OneRepublic
Blackstar - David Bowie
Dark Necessities - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Wildcards:
Thank God For Girls - Weezer
Drive - Joe Bonamassa
Happiness III - Steven Wilson
Find Me - Kings Of Leon
Worst song: Don’t Wanna Know - Maroon 5 feat. Kendrick Lamar
(Jason was right to say you could almost pick any single by Maroon 5 as the worst of the year - Kendrick Lamar certainly doesn’t improve their dismal track record)
Song of the Year: Go Robot - Red Hot Chili Peppers
(This is a more mature version of the band’s distinctive sound but they are certainly growing old gracefully)
Hello again Bryan. Comparing our two lists, I didn't find anything we both listed. Didn't make my list, but Find Me is a good one from KOL.
Most of your list was unfamiliar to me. I think by 2016, I had really cut back on the amount of contemporary music I was listening to. My favorite was Drive from guitar genius Joe Bonamassa. Weezer's Thank God For Girls was enjoyable and Wherever I Go is another melodic Onerepublic offering.
I think I'll eat some dinner before I wrap tonight up with your 2017 selections. Later, my friend. 😊
@@brentjackson6839 Thanks again, my friend, for your honest and constructive opinions. For many of these later years, I have spent most time trying to find Billboard hits I found reasonable - they were definitely in short supply! 🤣 I agree with you, though, that OneRepublic were a decent band, and this is their third appearance in my list (Counting Stars In 2013 and Love Runs Out In 2014 were the others).
Most of my Wildcard choices came from my top 5 AOTY selections. The exception is Thank God For Girls. I hadn’t listened to any Weezer albums previously, not even their highly rated debut. I therefore made an effort to listen to their White Album and enjoyed it very much. At some point, I will have to check out several more of their albums.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, buddy. I will hopefully catch up with you soon.
Kram - I liked a lot of your picks.
BILLBOARD
Redbone- Childish Gambino (SOTY)
My Church- Maren Morris
Ivy- Frank Ocean
Pink + White- Frank Ocean
Cranes in the Sky- Solange
WILDCARD
8 (circle)- Bon Iver
Cosmic Hero- Car Seat Headrest
Together- KAYTRANADA feat. AlunaGeorge and GoldLink
Glowed Up- KAYTRANADA feat. Anderson .Paak
A Change of Heart- The 1975
Loved the 1975 album with 'The Sound'. 'Blackstar' by Bowie. Joe mentioned Brendan Urie's song - I loved the song "Impossible Year" even more. PJ Harvey. "Distant Sky" by Nick Cave.
I always like the Worst Song section. There was a song called 'Black Beatles" that I hated.
In the later years, like I said in another clip, there are always great highs, but the lows go real looow.
Kram - I too appreciate Can't Stop the Feeling.
This series could go on for 30, 40 more years. Kramzer has great opportunity to catch up.
1. Pretty Face - Rival Sons
2. I Am the Hammer - Eternal Champion
3. Acid Roulette - Scorpion Child
4. Distant Lonesome Train - Joe Bonamassa
5. Wanna Feel You - RavenEye
6. Hollow Bones Pt. 2 - Rival Sons
7. Reaper's Danse - Scorpion Child
8. Eternity - RavenEye
9. California Air (Better Here than There) - Graham Bonnet Band
10. Withered Thorn - Bus
Hahaha like a sine wave 😂 love it
2016
1 Please Be Honest - Guided by Voices Prolific songwriter extraordinaire Robert Pollard always followed the same constants he describes as the “Four P's” - pop, psychedelic, prog, and punk". Not one of his best songs but still good in a year that is not good.
2 Come on Mr. Christian - GBV
3 Shut up Kiss me - Angel Olsen Nod to David Bowie's "Changes" with the percussive piano.
4 Woman - Angel Olsen Sounds to me like a slowed-down version of Bowie's "China Girl"
5. Those were the Days - Angel Olsen. With "Pillow Talk" vocals
6 Daydreaming - Radiohead
7 Tiny - Dinosaur Jr
8 Be Part of - Dino Jr
9 Lost All Day - Dinosaur Jr
10 Not What I Needed - Car Seat Headrest
11 When you Were Young - Suede

17 Outsiders - Suede
18 We Aren't The World (Safety Girl) - Wilco
19 Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales - Car Seat Headrest
20 Nothing compares to You - Chris Cornell with a good cover
I recently ranked all 35 current GBV albums, and Please Be Honest was unfortunately in very last place (mostly because I can’t find a single standout song on it, which I can’t say about any of their 34 other albums). Personally, I think the solo album he released in 2016 blows it out of the water. (In a way, Please Be Honest IS a solo Pollard album, since he played every instrument on the record - and it shows.)
@@echosmyron1278 I don't have a clue when it comes to their album rankings but I would say I like the two songs I chose better than any on his 2016 solo album. Thanks for your input.

Honestly always liked Love Yourself. I think melodically it’s pretty pleasant. When I first heard it I was actually impressed Bieber made a song I liked and the album ended up being pretty good too. All my musically inclined friends felt the same so I didn’t feel alone thinking that. The radio version is definitely worse though.
No picks in my top 5 in common with the hosts this year.
1.) Car Seat Headrest - Ballad of the Costa Concordia (This song is a punch of pure emotion. Lyrically a real gem)
2.) Vulfpeck - Animal Spirits (if you don't know Vulfpeck yet, check them out. Such a fun and quirky funk group)
3.) Nap Eyes - Click Clack (some mellow indy rock with great flow)
4.) I The Mighty - The Hound and the Fox (Oil in Water version, which is an album of songs from this band re-recorded in styles different from their normal hard rock)
5.) Karl Blau - Fallin Rain (not my typical style, but I find this one really relaxing)

@@beetlebum7760 Very cool. Nope, in the US. A Masha cd played in a local coffee shop years ago - been a fan since.
@@bigneon_glitter Cool! Destination Vertically is my favorite song of hers. She’s singing in German now too. Don’t know if that’s my cup of tea. Good German pop lyrics are not as easy to write as in English.
Wow! Shocked by the Eric Bachmann pick. It’s a really good album. That gets my vote. I thought for sure I was going to vote Radiohead until Jason pulled that out of his ass. 2016 was an okay year. Sometimes a song is all about timing and the moments happening in your life. My favorite song of the year is all about that:

My long list of UK chart hits form 2016 comprises a mere 20 songs. I don't have any stats but I think the top 100 has slowed down a lot since the advent of streaming and that would mean that fewer songs are charting. Again no acts had more than 1 song on my long list without a top 10. In fact, the Weeknd was the only act to get 2 songs on the long list. Despite this, I think my top 10 stands up pretty well by comparison with others from this era. This includes some originality from Childish Gambino and Christine and the Queens, known to their families as Donald Glover and Heloise Letissier (+ her bandmates). Justin Timberlake has my favourite slice of pop this year as he makes my top 10 for what I think may be the first time since 2005. In contrast, Adele and The 1975 make it for the second year in a row:
Send my love (to your new lover) - Adele
Keeping your head up - Birdy
Redbone - Childish Gambino
Tilted - Christine and the Queens
The Sound - The 1975
Burn the Witch - Radiohead
Human - Rag’n’Bone Man

Hot 100 wise, this is one of my least favourite years. Actually, I hate this year on the Hot 100. I was in high-school during this year and the whole year was just miserable. All the cool celebs were dying. Movies all around sucked, pop music was becoming pretty crap, trap was really taking over for better or for worse (for worse). Only good thing is that I discovered rock music this year thanks to GnR, Metallica and Def Leppard. This was also a pretty good year for R&B.
Hot 100:
5. Cake by the Ocean (DNCE) - the bassline rules
4. Heathens - TwentyOnePilots - hated Suicide Squad but this song is pretty good
3. 24K Magic - Bruno Mars - Bruno saved this year in pop with a great pop album. Same with the Weeknd

3. "Redbone" (Childish Gambino) - I love Donald Glover more for being Troy Barnes in Community but his music is really good stuff.
2. Untitled 08 | 09.06.2014. (Kendrick Lamar)

I was looking forward to the upcoming Lambchop album (The Bible, due Sept. 30) after hearing the great first single, “Police Dog Blues,” but the two subsequent previews have somewhat dampened my enthusiasm. I want to like this band more than I do, as they have written some great tunes, but I’ve always struggled with their slower material and the weird vocoder effects that they use way too often.
My SOTY for 2016 is We Begged 2 Explode by Jeff Rosenstock. Who else has that track?
No one. But it’s a good track. - Joe
It's funny I quite like Love Yourself it's the only Bieber song I do like. I don't like Closer either - Todd in the Shadows loves it - that vindicates my decision to decide his taste mostly sucks.

Man, I usually really appreciate Jason’s obscure picks, and I always loved Crooked Fingers (never a big fan of Archers of Loaf though), but god that Eric Bachmann song sucks! So overly earnest and super derivative. Ful Stop wins by a landslide, even though the point is moot for Kram.
That's far from my favorite Radiohead song too but at least it's something unique and interesting. I'm voting for it as well.
You can let your guard down and enjoy something earnest once in awhile. You don’t have to be so cool all of the time.
