  • Hello, and welcome to my first Full Ride on the new TEXRail! Today, we're traveling from Fort Worth T&P Station to DFW Airport Terminal B Station, with a side window view. Plenty of fun sights along the way, including the TEXRail Maintenance Facility and Yard, as well as a brand new Stadler DMU ready for TEXRail service, still on it's flatbed rail car. We also pass by some neat Grapevine Vintage Railroad equipment. Enjoy the views!
    In a future video, we'll take a full ride with a more interior point of view, as well as some video in the engine corridor. Stay tuned!

    Came in from London, UK, to visit family in Grapevine, for Christmas. Last Thursday rode the train first to DFW and then jumped on the train going back to Fort Worth (where we had lunch at the Flying Saucer). Impressive ride and well worth $5. I'll go again next time I am visiting. I filmed most of the ride but did not have enough battery to get the whole length of the line.

    I visited the Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC) station before TEXRail started service. TEXRail is using the left track in conflict with the approaching TRE train because that's the only platform at that station that is compatible with the new train. Also, only a portion of the platform was raised.
    I noticed how worn-out the TRE gallery cars are. When they are replaced it would be nice if they used the higher platform configuration for the same level-boarding experience.

    Maybe in the future the land use near these stations will be rezone for commercial, office and retail along with higher density residential housing such as apartments and condos. That being done now along parts of routes of the DART light rail system and especially around train stations which steadily increased ridership on DART. The surrounding Fort Worth area is not as urban as Dallas, but it's getting there as more people move to the DFW Metroplex.

    Great quality video. Thanks! Even though this is the first week of service, it's surprising that there are hardly any passengers on this train, and that even despite free fares until the end of January. I'd like to know if they will make anything close to a profit after being in operation a few months.
    I hope the European railfans watching this video realize that those of us in Texas and most of the US outside of the northeast love the independence our cars give us. A lot of us love trains, but their practicality in getting people from one location to another is limited. Everything here is spread out. Gasoline (petrol) is cheap here compared to Europe and is likely more cost-effective than spending billions of US dollars on getting right-of-ways for train tracks, new equipment, building stations, etc.
    Nevertheless, I hope TexRail does well.

    They should try working on several things before constructing commuter train lines in the future, these things are:
    *Build individual tracks that are reserved for TEXrail only. This will reduce the overall congestion and conflicts with the other train companies which may reduce travel time and delays.
    *Planning a network of tracks with the least amount of crossings as possible, since rail crossings tends to decrease the overall speed limit in the rail network.
    *Adjust the P.A system throughout the network by summing up the information. Too much unnecessary information is given upon arriving to a specific station. It must be short and informative.
    *Making sure that every station has a direct connection to bus stops and parking lots.

    I used this plus TRE plus DART to go to the fair. Coming home the TRE trains all arrive exactly 9 minutes after the TEXRAIL departures, and they only run every hour. grrrr. Had to take a Lyft back to mercantile center station instead of making my family sit and wait 51 minutes. Poor planning.

      Wow... Sorry it worked out like that! If only there was more demand for public transit here, then they'd run on a more frequent schedule. It's strange how the cycle just makes it worse, because now you're discouraged from doing that again, which ends up lowering the demand, and making them run even less often. Oh well. Hopefully it improves anyways!

      I'm sure it will... I filmed this late in the morning on a Friday, so I wasn't too surprised to see it quiet. I was told it's pretty busy on weekends and rush hours already.

    soooo no fare gates? Here in PHX I only see homeless or kids without parents riding in the light Rail. Should have fare gates like LA Metro!

    • @NTxRE
      @NTxRE  4 года назад +3

      Nope, no gates for TexRail, TRE or DART or the DCTA, the major systems we have in the metroplex. It's all honor system based. I'd assume the above ground nature of it makes it difficult, expensive and impractical to put fare gates, but I agree they'd be helpful for ensuring people pay their fare.

    so they bought commuter trains made for fast acceleration, and stopping on a dime to make time, but drive it like grandma, honking the horn every 5 seconds, and make stops so slowly that it looks like they transport eggs!

    • @NTxRE
      @NTxRE  5 лет назад

      In a lot of places while I was filming, there were construction crews still working. At this point, they don't need to go too fast because there is only a 30 minute headway in between trains, but as ridership increases, I'm sure the schedule will tighten and speeds will go up as well.

    Omg what boring bland scenery. Dart in dallas much better well minus the gangs, fights, stabbings, drug dealing, homeless, urine, and occasional murder. Dallas public transit is much more cut throat. Literally.

      There's construction on the line, and demand requires only 30 minute headways. The trains can go 70mph, so there's room for expansion.
