DIY Camp Trailer Walk Around UPDATE • DIY Overland Rooftop T...
Man that is nice. I just got one. Cant wait to build mine out. Great ideas and super video.
Good solid unit. Something to be said about the open plan. All you need is a few good solid boxes for storage.
Check out my updated walk around vlog from two weekends ago.
@@Tail_Dragger Will do. Cheers.
Liked the dead head sticker on back of jeep
WSMFP!!! I'm going to be building a similar trailer and will be starting with a lowes 4x6. It's good to know with minor frame mods they are durable enough!
Mine is set up with zero frame mods. Just an upgraded axle mounted to the original spring mounts
Thanks for sharing, love the concept,
Thanks for watching.
Awesome
Well done....
Nice Jeep! And nice trailer build! Thank you for sharing!! You have inspired me to take the plunge and build one myself. The only thing I am uncertain about is the axle/ tire swap on an existing trailer I have. But I think I will go for it!
Contact compact camping concepts that’s where I purchase my axle they even welded the purchase on for me. They specialize in carry-on conversions. Fast service and very knowledgeable
@@Tail_Dragger awesome! Thanks!
Very welcome. You can always reach out to me. I really enjoyed the build.
Very nice !!
What
Traier is it ??
Can you list all things u used and how moch did you spend?
Thanks. Go to my website there’s a link there. www.highpointoverland.com
Nice trailer man, I need to step up my game. I’m such a lazy camper
Thanks so much! It was a fun build. Started it in April for our Georgia Traverse trip in July. I’m still tweaking it. Adding, adjusting, modifying. I don’t think it’ll ever be totally done. Haha
I’m starting my build today! Getting a list together and going at it it will be awhile but i just thought about diy instead of buying a new one like this I’ll be doing a hunting version but wow that’s cool hopefully mine turns out! Great ideas!
Thanks for watching. Check out my website for full details on the build. www.highpointoverland.com
@@Tail_Dragger awesome!!
Loved watching this! Can you tell me more about the water tank add on? I'd like to do something similar. Is it pressurized?
Thanks so much. I’m
Glad you enjoyed the video. I used a regular rv water pump and tank. The pump is powered by the trailer battery set up. It’s really a simple system. The tank and pump was less than $100.00.
Great setup I have the same trailer very similar setup. Where did you get that molly panel for the side of the trailer? Cheers from Denver Colorado!
Thanks for watching! The molly panels are DeeZee brand off Amazon. Cheers 🍻
Liking that tie down system. What are the dimensions of that water tank and where did you get it from?
It’s a 21 gallon I bought off Amazon. It’s 39x16x8. I might be downsizing to gain some room for a diesel heater. 🔥
I don't know much about setting up a power station. Can you tell me what type of battery you are using or possibly make a video simplifying this because there aren't many out there! Nice build!
Yes, stay tuned to the channel in the next couple of weeks I will be redoing my set up on the trailer and I hope to get the majority of it films for a video. Glad you like the build!
The battery is just an average priced marine battery I picked up at AutoZone. It’s tied to my 7 pin trailer harness so it charges the battery when I’m driving.
Fenders ?? Are you going to add them ??
I never had fenders on it. I sold this trailer in April. My next build will have fenders for sure.
Did you custom build this trailer or cut down an existing trailer then mod it out? What is the length width of the final assembly? I have a 5x8 with a ramp that my 23zero walkabout is currently mounted too.
It’s 4’x6’ inside deck dimension. I cut everything off the trailer but the base frame and rails then reinforced it, put a 3500lb axle under it. Tongue to tail is 9’6”.
@@Tail_Dragger I have a 5x8 that has been my carry all including my 23zero tent. We pull it behind my truck and Jeep for camping. I put a plywood floor down in mine with E trac for the tie down points, I like what you have done and am seriously considering a similar project.
@@zodar1400 you should do it! Where are you from? I have had a blast building it and I have over 3000 miles (1000 off road) on it since late July with zero issues
@@Tail_Dragger I am in Central Ks but grew up in southwest Missouri. What axle did you buy for yours and did you change the hubs out for the jeep bolt pattern? I don't think I would cut mine down but a new axle mine is currently flipped for a little more height and either a pintle high or a hitch like yours is a must have for trails.
I forget the brand axle but I bought it from
compact camping concepts out in Oregon. The hubs came 5x4.5 or visa versa, I have 1.5 spacers to help the tires clear the trailer.
Where did you find the molle panels to mount accessories ?
Those are by DeeZee. I bought them off Amazon
How did you do those side rack that mount your shovel and what not?
They are DeeZee molle panels. I have a link to them on my website under “my trailer build” tab. www.highpointoverland.com
Do you have the list of stuff you bought to make this?
I had one, but I’m in the process of reworking my website and I will have a list back on there within the next few days.
Would you raise the tent higher or do you think that's a goo height? I'm looking to the same setup but maybe have the tent higher.
As far as taking the cover on and off without having to climb up on the rig to do it, I love this height. Just my opinion but it just makes it easier and maybe even less air drag when towing down the highway.
Did you need to add wheel spacers to the trailer ?
Yes. I believe they are 1.5”
@@Tail_Dragger copy that . thx
Inspirational- is this a 4 x 6 trailer and where did you get it?
I purchased a bare trailer used but it was originally a 4x6 trailer from
Lowe’s.
Thanks for responding. That's what I thought. I've been looking at that same trailer here in Colorado at Lowe's but a galvalume kit from Home Depot I'm in Colorado right now but I live in Florida and will also use it to haul kayaks, so I'm worried about rust.
Your video is very good and informative. After I watch this more closely, I'm sure I'll have more questions for you. Again- thanks
Go to my website for a full rundown of the build.

@@Tail_Dragger will do! Thank you!
where did you pick up the side rail tie downs and clamps ?

What kind of axel do you have to fit those Jeep wheels? I have a set of factory 17 inch wheels with duratrac tires that I would like to put on my trailer but even with a 4x5 to 5x5 adaptor, the baring hole is too big for the jeep wheels.
I am not sure what brand axle it is I bought it through compact camping concepts in Oregon
Thanks. I'll check it out. cheers
Where’d you get the molle rack?

Updated walk around! ruclips.net/video/98CO4JPMGy0/видео.html
Would this be to small to carry a hobie outback kayak?
Not at all if it was mounted on the side. The rooftop tent would make it difficult up top
You read my mind. I have a trailer similar to this that I want to build into an overlander trailer. But also want to be able to load my fishing kayak. I'm thinking about removable mounts below the RRT to hold the kayak. Love this build BTW! Gives me so many ideas. Thanks for this video!
That would be very easy to do by just adding 2 cross bars to the tent rack 👍🏻
There will be an updated video coming out in the next week or so showing off recent mods. Check out my webpage for a detailed list of products used to get it to where it is now
