Wanting to build my own trailer here pretty soon. It's great to see how you have decided to do things and I'm definitely going to borrow ideas for my design. Thanks.
Strong work! It is exciting to see a trailer like yours come together as some inspiration/motivation for my own build in the future. Thanks for posting!
Anyone using wood. Do research on Duratex. Especially if your near the coast or do any fording. Though it has a Rhino liner finish. It can be covered & used solely as a waterproofing.
You are either active duty or have served a time or two based on the PT Shirt. I was looking into getting an M1101/02 Trailer and turning it into an Overland trailer myself. Now that this video is out, I gotta get me a trailer and conver it.
Great Video!Just a safety note .You placed the load on the weaker side of cinder blocks which could result in them crumbling/collapsing .”Holes”of block should face up and down.Stay safe!
Great video! My son's and I are working on a very similar project. Our base trailer is a M101A3 and we've just completed an axel swap and replaced the pintle/lunette with a standard bulldog collar hitch. Keep up the great content. Btw - looks like we are both in AZ.
After using if for a few years I think I may change the battery system up a little to get more running watts for 110V appliances. 1000W would cover everything. I am also going to figure out a way to raise and lower the tent a few inches after getting to camp. Mounting it on the flat top does not allow much room to access the zippered cover. I also doubled the water tank and with 26 gallons have plenty for a long weekend.
What exactly are you looking to see more detail on? I made an entire video on the hitch itself which you can see here but let me know if you are still looking for something in particular. ruclips.net/video/_hbeVB7dr1w/видео.html
It’s funny someone else just asked this too. I have tried a couple times to make a video and unfortunately both times the video quality was too poor to post. I’m working on it though.
Loved it! Been waiting to see the final product for over a year! Are you planning on doing a walk around of your rig? I have an M101a2 that I also turned into an overland trailer a couple years ago. Was thinking of doing a YT video on it as well.
Thanks Kenneth, sorry for the delay. Planning to get the final walk around footage done this weekend on our camping trip. I’ll cover all the things I changed and may change down the road.
Seriously awesome job. I an just about to pick up an M105 in two weeks and I was just looking at Timbren suspension and wondered if it would mount up. I see it does. Thank you. Would you mind sharing the hubs you went with? Thanks for the share and all the hard work.
@@camptaji901 surge brakes work off the forward momentum of the trailer when the tow vehicle applies the brakes increasing the braking force in sync with how much force the trailer is pushing on the slowing tow vehicle. There aren’t any lines to connect so as long as the surge brake system is functional on the trailer they should work with any vehicle.
Thank you for the video, I have a similar setup on a M1102, I see you went for a Timbren suspension, can you tell me what weight capacity you used for your build? Great project!
Thanks! With everything loaded including water it’s right at 2500lbs. If I remember right Timbren recommends like 60 or 70% of theirs rating so the 3500lbs axels were perfect.
I still love it! There’s been a few minor tweaks here and there but that was to be expected. I primarily do hunting videos but if you want to follow my instagram is callinthecountry just like the RUclips channel. I do plan to do an update video this summer of where it is now so stay tuned for that.
What axle did you go with on the 101A1? I am looking to get rid of the original axle and run 5x5's on it to match my Jeep Rims. If you have a link that would be awesome too, with any tips.

Yep, totally worth it. That said, if I had it to do again I think I’d do an enclosed trailer. The RTT takedown time is sometimes more that you want to deal with at the end of a trip.
Hey great job man. Love the time and effort you put into this build. Just one question, how is that bed liner stuff you used? Any good? I want to paint my bumper on my truck with this stuff.
The leaf springs are just bolted on but because of how old the trailer was I had to use a grinder on some of them. Then I just punched the pins out with a big nail I had laying around.
Great project. I want to build one now. May I ask, what model camera do you use and what editing software do you use. I want to start a antique tools restoration page and I love the time lapse format. It keeps my attention because the progress is so quick. Hope you can help me out with the camera model number. Thanks, John in Texas.
Most of this video was just shot on an old GoPro, maybe 5. The editing software was adobe premier pro but really any editing program will work to make a video like this.
I’ve recorded that video twice now. The first one my wife was tryin to hold my son and way too shaky and the second it was so windy you couldn’t hear anything I was saying. I’m trying, just need to get back out camping.
