Highpoint Overland
Добавлен 25 янв 2017
Love to get out and explore new places to camp, off the grid. Always practicing “Tread Lightly” principles. Most weekends I’m in the National Forests in AR, KY,GA,TN,NC or out in the shop working on our rigs. I hope to provide entertaining content but above all I hope to encourage everyone to get up, get out....and explore!!

DIY OVERLAND TRAILER BUILD: Part 2 -First Mod
Просмотров 782 месяца назад
Quick update as I kick off the DIY Overland Trailer Build. First mod to the trailer was completed this weekend (it took a whole 10 mins) was to cut about 20” off the tail. This accomplished two things. First it transfers more weight to the tongue and it eliminates having to slide the axle back towards the rear to help with weight balance. Stay tuned ……much more to come! #diytrailer #diyoverland...

I drug this 1978 C10 Chevy truck out of a junkyard in North Mississippi where it resided the last 30 years. It’s a fairly complete truck. This weekend I’m jumping in with both feet and hope to get it running. Hammer down!❤
i have been thinking about doing this to my trailer. Thank you for your explanation on your decision.
@@sunshineserna7668 thank you for watching
Bummer about those adapters😢
@@mjc_overlander8809 yeah the trailer has 4x5 bolt pattern and not 4.5x5 like I thought. I have new 5x5 hubs coming tomorrow from Dexter that will swap out with spacers coming later this week.

Very nice !! What Traier is it ?? Can you list all things u used and how moch did you spend?
Thanks. Go to my website there’s a link there. www.highpointoverland.com
What happened to the M416 Trailer? I have one with my roof top tent mounted on and wanted to see what mods you made. Your next trailer is what I am thinking of trying to do for a square drop trailer. Keep the videos coming.
I fully restored the frame and suspension but the tub was too far gone. I didn’t want to put the time into it that it required. I sold it as project for a very nice profit. Yeah this next trailer will be very similar to my first but with improvements. My plan is to put at least one video out, twice a month for each step of the build. Thank you for watching.
Haha "Standard cracked windsheild!" That is an awesome setup. I can't wait to see videos of you overlanding in it.
@@azxp thanks so much.
Great setup! Purpose built with functionality and a lot of thought.
Absolutely!
Your never lost, you are always somewhere is what my dad always told me 😎😎😎cool build in restoring an 1949 Bantam T3c trailer now
Nice!
Do you have the list of stuff you bought to make this?
I had one, but I’m in the process of reworking my website and I will have a list back on there within the next few days.
I’d love to see how you dealt with the side walls on your trailer. Just picked one up, and want to reinforce the rear, near where a tailgate was cut out. I’m afraid the sidewalls have too much flex for a rack and tent… please let us know… or at least let me know!!! Just subscribed! Thanks for the videos.
My rear panel was cut out by the previous owner and the side walls had a ton of flex. I bought a reproduction tailgate and frame for a Willy’s Jeep. Although I sold the project before I installed it, I’ve seen it done and it takes all the flex away and stiffens it enough for a RTT rack.
@@Tail_Dragger thank you so much for the reply! Looking into it now. Also a gladiator owner down in Orlando. She’s seen 40+ states and counting! Love it!!! Safe travels!
@smorris2993 wow 40? That’s awesome!
Looks dang good with the JT spare wheels. I’m working on one as well. Almost did the same thing but I went with the stock rims and 7.50 x16s
Thank you. The original wheels were too far gone to reuse so I went with something close but bigger haha. I recently sold the trailer and its new home is down around New Orleans. Thank you for watching!
The cap looks very nice!
“Cool Matt”😂
Indeed 👍🏻
Nice paint job.
Lots of work for something that will never be seen. Better than all the rusty scale I guess.
Looking forward to the next video. nice improvement on the frame. like seeing how you work in these later videos. gives me ideas how to do things in a new way.
I don’t endorse or encourage any of my bad/unsafe work habits lol.
I’m starting my build today! Getting a list together and going at it it will be awhile but i just thought about diy instead of buying a new one like this I’ll be doing a hunting version but wow that’s cool hopefully mine turns out! Great ideas!
Thanks for watching. Check out my website for full details on the build. www.highpointoverland.com
@@Tail_Dragger awesome!!
Looks great on there! It's nice that it's a quick and easy install too😁
Thank you. It took longer to edit the video lol.
@@Tail_Dragger that always seems to be the case when it comes to editing, lol😁
Looking for the rest of the project. I just started mine.
Inspirational- is this a 4 x 6 trailer and where did you get it?
I purchased a bare trailer used but it was originally a 4x6 trailer from Lowe’s.
Thanks for responding. That's what I thought. I've been looking at that same trailer here in Colorado at Lowe's but a galvalume kit from Home Depot I'm in Colorado right now but I live in Florida and will also use it to haul kayaks, so I'm worried about rust. Your video is very good and informative. After I watch this more closely, I'm sure I'll have more questions for you. Again- thanks
Go to my website for a full rundown of the build. www.highpointoverland.com
@@Tail_Dragger will do! Thank you!
nobody thinks about this song anymore but the raconteurs are awesome! steady as she goes
One of my favs!
Hey, Ole Miss. I found a missing grove trash can in Memphis. "Tread lightly" trying to get it back! The OC keeps a close eye out around those parts.
Snitches get stitches, come take it.
I’ll be following your build! I have an M101cdn that I need to restore but I still use it too often to tare apart 😊 👏
Thanks! Can’t wait to get it back together.
What are your trailer dimensions?
4x6
Where’d you get the molle rack?
highpointoverland.com/diy-trailer-build/ Check out the build list here.
Great project trailer!
Thanks I’m excited to start the build.
I just finished my military trailer build after about a year. Used a lot of parts from Compact Camping Concepts. Just used it last weekend and it worked out great.
Yeah, CCC has some quality stuff. They were very helpful with my last trailer build.
I live on the right behind the chemical place at 10:23 on the video
This is beautiful foliage!! Great replaced easy wheeling!
Looking at the inside of Tail Dragger is making me miss the Treehouse. It looks so good! We're getting our jeep soon. We'll still camp off the back roads! We will just have a hot shower when we return
Thank you kindly. Hot showers are key to a good adventure 🤙🏼
Gladiator looks 👊🏼👊🏼!
Thank you! Putting the RTT on this weekend.
@@Tail_Dragger nice!!!
Spend all that money on shit gear but too cheap to spend 200$ for the bumper you wanted. POS
What kind of rims did you get to mount on the trailer and is it a 5 lug by 4.5
When I had Compact Camping Concepts build my axle they used 5x5 wheel pattern to match my JK Rubicon Wheels
Top shelf mods… Alu-Cab and Goose Gear! Nice!
Thank you very much. Building the Tail Dragger has been a lot of fun.
Just a thought. Keep the jeep true to your love for overlanding. Nothing crazy pure of heart.
That's the plan!
Do you share your GPX tracks??
No, sorry I don’t. You can find the gpx file out there from other’s without much trouble.
@@Tail_Dragger Ok thanks
Nice rig! I look forward to watching you get it dirty😀 New subscriber here via @gooniesoutdooradventures6280 pointing me to your channel.
You will see plenty of it down and dirty. Thank you for subscribing!
Had a great time riding with you! Can’t wait to do it again!
Same here!
Here we go!!!
It’s going to give the cleaver tail a run for it’s money.
It's so nice!!
Thank you!!
That’s a nice ride already.
If you did it again, would you just get a longer trailer as opposed to extending the tongue to add extra cargo space?
Not necessarily. It was an easy mod and worked out well for us. I’ve since sold the trailer and currently have a 5x8 trailer waiting to be built out.
Love those night diving segments! Seems I always arrive at camp in the dark ha ha! Hello from the Pacific Northwest! Awesome to see some trails in another part of the country!
Thanks for watching!
Enjoy the project. I like to think I can take on something like this but we all know that's a lie
You can do it!
Great video. And yes Albert pike gets away to much traffic.
Fenders ?? Are you going to add them ??
I never had fenders on it. I sold this trailer in April. My next build will have fenders for sure.
Looks like some fun wheeling! Love the wooded trails.
Thank you. I love y’all’s wide open trails. Such opposite ends of the spectrum. 🤙🏼
how long is the tongue on the trailer from the front rail? hows it pull going down the road? i just started building ours and curious thanks for the great videos and website of info
I replaced the original tongue with a much longer one because of the wobble and fishtailing at speed. It’s about 7.5’ from the front rail of the trailer to the end. After I did that it pulls perfectly.
@@Tail_Dragger I figured it needed to be 3-4 fr longer was just curious thx for the reply.
The trails look tight, would a full sized truck make it through okay? Looks like a cool place.
Some trails were tighter than others. Driving between trees in either side of the trail was pretty tight in some spots but definitely doable being cautious.
I live near lbl and we ride Turkey bay quite a bit. Yes you can take a full size rig through the trails. Highpoint guys need to come back and ride the forest service roads where side by sides are illegal. There’s 87000 acres to enjoy.
