one of our local bowling alleys where I live had the twin cabinet for quite a while, and for unknown reasons they got rid of it and replaced it with a budget fast & furious cabinet that looked awful, I was so heartbroken
There was this whole thing where the ops had to try and judge when a new game would make more than an old one, and what it would cost to keep an old one running.... nobody realized at the time once you updated DAYTONA nothing was going to earn like it did :)
@@LyonsArcade There was a special board that added rpg elements and replay value...
Greetings from Indonesia🇮🇩, Southeast Asian. I Still Remember this Arcade SEGA Daytona USA, one of the BEST 90s Game... until I was in Kindergarten and Elementary School in the mid 2000s, this Arcade still exists, i play this at Timezone Game Center. And now i have this Game in My Laptop but this is PC Version, the Graphic it look like at SEGA Saturn. Nostalgic Arcade 90s.
By the way, i fastest 3'21"24 at Expert Course with Manual-4 Red Car in My Laptop.
That's pretty impressive, you would probably be even faster on the actual machine because the controls would be better! Thank you for watching in Indonesia!
@@LyonsArcade Thanks... Now My New Record 3'19"89 at Expert Course (Seaside Street Galaxy).
Just found 3 Daytona usa twins, fixed all 3 and sold 1 set. Currently have 2 twins linked and running. Forgot how much i love this game!
Take manual, slam it into 1st or 2nd on the 3rd corner n drift it out!!
Yeah it's an awesome game, one of the best ever. We just did a video of Daytona 2 that will be coming out soon....
@@LyonsArcade Daytona 2 didn't have the draw for me as a kid as the original. Looks beautiful etc just never was the same
@@Ajaxaxxess Absolutely agree! Despite the chunkier graphics, the original was far superior gameplay... almost (but not quite, obviously) a sim, where Daytona 2 was much more "arcady".
me and my buddy pretend to play this game when we where 6 years old back in 1994 in our local swimming bath^^ we just set down and pulled on that wheel while it was in attraction mode and pretend that we where playing, cause we had no money to play this game :D luckily nowadays i´m able to play it in the m2 emulator, such a great game, one of my alltime favourites ^_^
+MetalTiger88 Me and my brother used to do the same all the time. :p
5:36 Ryu got himself into another fight.
Doesn't he always?????
This was always a classic! The way I did the last turn was to down shift in traffic since it's easier to control in 3rd but if it's clear you can pump the brake a little before turning and get to about 165ish in 4th if you get real close to the wall and cut in. Use partial throttle and when you get close to the apron about half a car width back hard on the gas and you should be able to pull out and hold the outside without touching the wall. By the time you straighten again your exit should be at about 185-190.
It's a super fun game with the link system the arcade I went to upgraded to 8way link after from 2-4 and then 8. Man the amount of money that went in, I could have bought the machine for myself lol.
It really never gets old, it's basically a perfect arcade game.
Ron... You're an artist and a retro tech and mech whisperer! Please give me a job. X
That's nice of you to say Robert! We're not hiring right now but i'll bet you'd fit right in!
DAYTONAAAAAA! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Letsss go away..... let's go, DAYTONAAAAAAA
My Uncle has two of these, both are decent shape with the top piece you have missing. He actually has quite a few arcade games, but he is so stubborn he wont use the internet to sell things.
great video, thanks
I have a twin daytona in my gamesroom too. Still a kick ass game . Have you ever come a sega twin cab called "wingwar" ? That game is awesome.
Wardiz I've never had one, but I've seen the game online... looks awesome!
Haha! There it is! The one I was looking for in amongst all your videos! The original's the better of all the versions! We used to play it in "endurance mode", in manual, on the Expert track. It takes about 45 minutes to complete, and you have to pit-stop as the tyres would go off! I used to like stopping twice (around laps 10 & 20), my mate and chief rival would stop once at about lap 15! I'd still love to buy it one day to this day! (I have a Sega M2 emulator for the PC with it though!) 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah that Endurance mode is bananas! I didn't know you had to do a pit stop, what happens if the tires come off?
@@LyonsArcade If you don't stop, or drive like I used to (I used to like drifting it round the last bend up toward the bridge) the tyres would go off after about 8 laps and it was like driving on ice. Also, any contact with other cars will effect performance, which is fixed with a pit-stop.
My mate used to "cheat", using the in-built "catch up" mode to overtake me on the last lap before the last corner, so it was impossible to overtake him, but I'd always have the fastest lap. I think it was somewhere around 1:31 for a hot lap on the expert track, if I recall correctly. I only realised you can turn the catch up mode off in the settings once I played around with the emulator. Had I known back then I would've tried to get the engineer to disable it! Allegedly you can network PCs in the emulator to play like the linked arcade game, but I've never got it to work.
@@LyonsArcade I missed the opportunity to buy a SEGA Rally twin unit a few years ago that a friend was selling. I've been lead to believe Rally can be converted to Daytona fairly easily? My boss has just bought this and installed it at work... facebook.com/helperformance/photos/a.139601992748556/3454062447969144/?type=3&theater
I've got a Daytona Twin and I love it. I just need to replace one of the steering wheels, and either the amp or speakers, and I need to adjust one of the pots that controls the in-game steering. Other than that, it's giving my family a good time.
We're working on another set right now, they're cool games but extremely complicated!
Joe's Classic Video Games Yes they are, but this game is legendary in a way.
i'm glad you still have the 4:3 CRT screens. I get they are hard to maintain, but I don't like how stretched the image is on the sets that have been retrofitted with 16:9 LCDs. (A local themepark i live nearby had a 4-seat set with LCDs)
Nice work man👍
7:06 I do that all the time, I misjudge the timing and end up clipping the right taillight on the guardrail lol
I'm bad about it, LOL
I want a pair 😊
If you aint rubben you aint racen, did i hear Wrecking Crew at 9:08?
You did, I thought you were talking about Dr. Dre there for a minute :)
my local arcade has this full without marquee cost them less than £1,000 and thats with fixing it up
One of the best games of all time!
First time i saw that at Zonny Zeezs local huge arcade under the movie theaters they had 4 of them linked together. I only ever played on expert/pro mode. not even 5 bucks spent I was always able to finish First or second against the drones. Always felt ripped off cause the game would end even when you were first. My lap times were always top ten. I use to be a foster parent, the kids and I would always hit the arcade on Friday or Saturday ( was a great way to keep them out of trouble/ distracted from be handled by the trouble makers) most of the kids we looked after never had any kind of money to dump into the arcade games. For the kids that where nice i would get at least 2 rolls of quarters, and open them in both hands, one kid asked me how many can i have, i told him as many as you could take at once with one hand. When that game showed up I would just get a roll of loonies/ Canadian 1 dollar piece, 40 bucks. My big brother, I and foster kids easily spent 500 bucks on that game back in the 90's. The trick is to tap the breaks super fast and slam it into 3rd and back to 4th. Timing and position is everything to set the drift around the hair pins. manual is faster than auto, always played in blue mode/ hood view. man that game was a blast.
I have it on Mac
never seen noone playing Daytona so bad :)
thanks for the click, they automatically deposit the money in my bank account
Sega's Daytona video 3!
Awesome videos! I just got a twin cab myself. I notice that yours is on free play - how do you set this up? I can't find an option for it in the test menu. I'm running the GTX (2004) ROM set.
I'm not familiar with the updated rom set but it should be the same as ours, you keep going through the coin settings and the last one is freeplay.
Figured it out - it was in coin adjustments! Thanks for the reply.
Try braking a little early in the turns. Most Daytona USA pros actually start the drift from the straight away. But instead of braking they usually just shift the 1st gear to start to drift the car then 4th gear keep the drift in place and you control the slide by steering it.
I'm working on another set of these lately, I'll give that a try, thanks!
Joe's Classic Video Games Keep doing what you're doing. I'm happy that people like you are still restoring gems like these. I would love to own one of these if I have the space :P
I'm sitting hear researching these tonight because I have a chance to buy a matching pair for $180 supposedly one is missing a monitor but everything else is there and working in them.
Thats a bargain for $180
$180 for Daytona? Thats’s a steal, I hope you bought it.
Do you have a video putting these together far as wiring and plugs? I have a set and not sure about the wiring..
How strong is the centering spring?
It doesn't have a spring, on these there was a motor. It's pretty strong, pretty much the strongest 'forced feedback' I've seen on arcade games.
Oh ok, like when ur playing, u say when u turn left the wheel tries to pull u to the right and vice versa, so if you let go of the wheel, how drastic does it retain to it's original positon (the centre), I'm currently working on one of these so id like to know, thanks for the reply
try turning on the attract sound mode to on in the test mode...
O.K., I did. Now what?
now, does it sound right?
with 'dududu...' whatsoever?
SPOILER ALERT: SONIC APPEARS IN A MOUNTAIN IN THE BEGINNER STAGE
I noticed that....
Jeffry from Virtua Fighter (?) Is a statue on the Expert track. If you hit start when stopped in front of the statue he spins and I think if you spin him enough he spins on his head
Hey, are you still looking for a Overhead marquee for your twin Daytona USA arcade set? If so I have a extra one I'd be willing to sell.
Tyler, we already sold these two without it! Where are you located at?
Morgantown, WV
You're missing the top "race leader" section! :(
We are! Do you have it????
s2
Looks sad without the top piece
Ain’t that the truth!
