I know little about Halo, the game, so I watched episode 1 with no connection to the lore. It was easily the worst non-BBC series' episode I've seen in years. Every single element is completely bungled. Everything is as stupid or inept as it could possibly be. How can this kind of thing happen? It was like turning a corner and happening on someone squatting in the street and rubbing his own excrement into his hair.

They really really really *really* wanted fans to be at a point where they are entirely loyal to all their respective franchises and engage in vacuous consumption of their cinematic swill no matter the quality... But they didn't get that, so they are just pretending that's the case, while they poach, bastardize, denigrate a beloved series while appealing to neither fans or newcomers, but it's fine, because nothing will stop them from giving themselves a pat on the back and award themselves badges of honor for something they failed at rather than succeeded. They are that complacent about it all, they don't need you, they don't want you, they are making movies for themselves and their peers. They know how to make movies/series, but they have forgotten how to make entertainment.

I know I'm a little late to the party, but Spartans (especially the Spartan 2s) being inhuman killing machines isn't entirely inaccurate, and I can easily see Innies describing them as such. We even see as much in Reach, with Emiles "Big guy forgets who he is" line when Jorge tries to talk to the woman in winter contingency. And let's not forget that the only thing Jun felt putting down Civlian unrest was "Slight Recoil." I was actually excited for the show to tackle the moral grayness of the Halo lore, but uh, yeah. It did not.
I haven't seen this show, but why would a Spartan go back to Reach? If you find a discarded wrapping paper from a Covenant snack bar, Winter Contingency is declared and no ship should ever take a direct route to any concentration of UNSC assets that can't be packed up in a hurry in case they are compromised. I wonder what Halo media the shitheads making this show actually did watch, because to my eye it looks like some dodgy concept art mixed with a random pick of wiki articles filtered throgh several layers of Google Translate for fun. Heck, even if the writers were too high and mighty to lower themselves to something as plebian as playing or watching a video game, there are books. I've said this before, and I'll say it again: Halo is the story of a humanity that was lucky enought to create the perfect, loyal super soldiers just as they were discovered by a genocidal alien theocracy bent on their destruction, and among those, John-117 wasn't "the chosen one" or anything; Kurt-051 had better intuition, Kelly-078 was faster by far, Linda-058 could snipe targets as fast as her rifle could cycle, and Frederic-104 was so skilled in all fields of combat that it's said he purposefully came in at 2nd place in every individual contest so he wouldn't literally top every leaderboard. John had the distinction of being "lucky", of consistently being in the right place at the right time, almost like a nod to the nature of a video game protagonist necessarily succeeding against bad odds whenever they are placed in a high stakes situation. If the game had used literally any other Spartan as the player character, they would be just as much of a "chosen one". I hate this rash of shitty adaptations. At least Arcane was awesome, which came as a shock to many.
I note they made the Elite's sadistic when killing humans. OG hinge-heads were ruthless and effective, some even came to respect humans as a worthy foe, and questioned why humanity wasn't offered to join the Covenant. This whole show is trash.
